Crews responded to a reported residential structure fire on Norris Lake Drive. On arrival, crews witnessed a large home well off the road fully involved.

DCFR Crash 15 and a host of other DeKalb units were dispatched to DeKalb-Peachtree Airport, for a report of a plane down on the runway. On arrival C15 witnessed a disabled Hawker Beechcraft. The flight crew stated that the landing gear malfunctioned. Both occupants of the aircraft escaped without injury. DCFR crews worked to stabilized the plane and prepared for it to be removed from the runway safely.

DCFR units were dispatched to Sleeping Fawn Knoll, in Decatur. On arrival, flames had already made their way through the roof of the multi-unit condo. Crews preformed a quick primary search to ensure no one was inside the structure, then continued with extinguishment. We have determined that the cause of the fire was due to a space heater. Thankfully, no one was injured.

DCFR units responded to an apartment fire at The Atlantic Brookhaven apartments, on Clairmont Road. Crews were able to evacuate the structure and stop the fire from consuming the entire building. While evacuating, members were also able to rescue several pets. There were no injuries and the cause is under investigation.

DCFR units were dispatched to a house on Silver Spur Drive, with a report of entrapment. On arrival, crews witnessed a home with heavy flames coming from the front side of the structure. While completing a walk-around the Incident Commander reported three residents jumped to their safety and one was in need of rescue, at the rear of the structure. Crews were able to rescue an elderly female from a second-story balcony. One K-9 was rescued from the flames. Four residents were transported to local hospitals and the cause is under investigation.

DCFR units were dispatched to a residential home with flames through the roof, on Phillips Place. The first arriving unit was met by the home owner, stating that everyone was out of the home. Due to the amount of fire crews got a handle on the flames from the outside before making entry. This incident resulted in not reported injuries and the cause is under investigation
DeKalb County Fire Rescue and the American Red Cross joined forces for a “Sound the Alarm”, smoke alarm campaign. DCFR targeted over 300 homes in the Stonecrest area. This was a prevention effort to enhance safety for the citizens DeKalb County.

DCFR is partnering with the Bureau of Alcohol, To***co, and Fi****ms to host an Accelerant Detection Canine for DCFR’s Fire Investigations unit.
Sawyer and her handler Investigator Whitaker are currently in Virginia training and preparing to serve the citizens of DeKalb County and other jurisdictions when these specialized services are needed.

Units responded to a report of a residential structure fire, on Tilson Circle. Upon arrival crews witnessed heavy smoke coming from the roof of the home. Crews went in for a fast attack and found that the bulk of the fire was in the kitchen. DeKalb EMS rendered aid to a cat that was rescued by firefighters. Residents confirmed that everyone was out of the structure. A ventilation hole was cut in the roof to aid with removing smoke. This was determined as a cooking fire. There were no reported injuries.
DCFR participated in the 2023 Atlanta Kosher BBQ Festival, at Brook Run Park in Dunwoody. The highlight of the event was Captain David McBrayer being named the Grand Marshall by the festival’s committee. Participants begin cooking the night before, in preparation for the festival.

Units arrived at the Village Main Street Townhomes, to heavy flames coming from the rear of the building. Upon arrival the first unit made sure the entire structure was evacuated and began extinguishment. While flames quickly spread to the adjoining townhome. An aggressive fire attack kept this fire from destroying the entire structure. There were no reported injuries and the cause is under investigation.
