2021 Gala - Tzu Chi Medical 02/28/2021

Witness the healing power of music and medicine!

Join Us For a Night of Music 🎶 on March 20

At the Tzu Chi USA Amplify Health: 2021 Virtual Gala, you’ll have the chance to see powerful performances from gifted musicians. They include those familiar and new to Tzu Chi’s medical mission, like Marcos Loya, Alex Bautista and Ximena Ibarra, and Mariano Cersa.

Marcos Loya is a world class musician 🎸 and composer whose work has appeared in popular films, theater, and even with Madonna in “La Isla Bonita.” But, even the talented can run into tough times. By 2018, he’d already been a year and a half without his eyeglasses, unable to afford a replacement. After coming across Tzu Chi’s free Vision Mobile Services in Los Angeles, Marcos received a brand new pair and a clearer outlook on life: “the kindness of people that reach out to the community, I think that’s going to be our saving grace.”

Like Marcos, Ecuadorian musicians Alex Bautista and Ximena Ibarra have also been moved by compassion and became volunteers of Brigada de Esperanza NY, a frequent collaborator of Tzu Chi NY. Last fall, the husband and wife duo performed at the Tzu Chi USA annual charity concert, and Alex has grown closer to Tzu Chi. He’s since volunteered at two Tzu Chi Vision Mobile outreaches, which focused on getting free prescription glasses 👓 to Latinos struggling through the pandemic in NYC.

While we eagerly await performances by our friends Marcos Loya, Alex Bautista & Ximena Ibarra, and Mariano Cersa, you don’t have to wait to make a difference. Make a donation today to support Tzu Chi USA’s medical mission. With it, you ensure that basic, quality care does not have to be a luxury.

Timeline photos 02/16/2021

This February, Tzu Chi USA is excited to present the inaugural screening of a new film program, Mindful Eye 🎞️.

Bi-monthly screenings will present films and conversations on global issues 🌐 that are connected to core humanistic concepts including compassion and mindful living.

On Thursday, February 25, you’ll see films Honeyland (2019) and Stung by Climate (2015, along with an insightful discussion with Tamara Kotevska (documentary filmmaker and co-director of Honeyland) and Nils Aucante (beekeeper and director of Stung by Climate). Both films center on the threats beekeepers around the world 🐝 face in maintaining their colonies, and what all that means for the future of food production and life as we know it.

We are so excited for this riveting exploration into beekeeping, hosted by actor Bart Shatto. See a preview of our event here. Tickets for our virtual screening 📽️ are on sale now! ($5.99) Limited quantities available.

Much of the humanitarian outreach work Tzu Chi does is of course more complicated or even impossible, during a pandemic. But everyone is still warmly welcome to join our weekly (Sundays 10AM) study and meditation session web meetings! We will be starting a series in a few weeks. Stay tuned for the start date!
