Today, November 3rd is the Tucson All Souls Procession. In honour of this biggest of big events in our fair city, I have composed a new musical piece called ‘Rise of the Cailleach’

In Gaelic (Irish, Scottish and Manx) myth, the Cailleach is a divine hag and ancestor, associated with the creation of the landscape and with the weather, especially storms and winter. The word literally means 'old woman, hag', and is found with this meaning in modern Irish and Scottish Gaelic, and has been applied to numerous mythological and folkloric figures in Ireland, Scotland, and the Isle of Man. In modern Irish folklore studies, she is sometimes known as The Hag of Beara, while in Scotland she is known as Beira, Queen of Winter.

A Celtic Samhain:

Samhain is a Celtic holiday covering October 30th through November 1st.

This is about halfway between the autumnal equinox and winter solstice. It is one of the four Gaelic seasonal festivals along with Imbolc, Bealtaine, and Lughnasa. Historically it was widely observed throughout Ireland, Scotland, and the Isle of Man. A similar festival is held by the Brythonic Celtic people, called Calan Gaeaf in Wales.

Similar to ‘The day of the dead,’ it is believed that the veils between the worlds of the living and the dead are at their thinnest, and travel in each direction can be achieved easily.

The Chalice Well in Glastonbury, England is also known as The Red Spring. The symbolism on the well cover was designed after a thirteenth century pattern and according to the creator Bligh Bond, it represents the Bleeding Lance and the Visible and Invisible Worlds interlocked with each other.

I’m excited to be moving into a new area of creative production, which will include drums, drones, voices (both spoken and sung), and dance!

I have a new creation by RÆVYN coming out on Friday September 6th.

It’s called ‘DEFOD / RITUAL’ and it’s dedicated to my grandfather John William Price who was a pretty high up Druid in a ‘grove’ in Manchester.

There are six movements:

He was a pretty cool guy, because not only was he a Druid, but he owned a number of cinemas in Stockport and Manchester (he sold them when ‘talkies’ came in, as he thought that there would be no future in them 🙃). He was also a championship boxer and a publican with pubs in the Stockport and Manchester area - phew!

I never met him, because he died 25 years before I was born 😢

So, this one’s for you grandad!

Wow! That was a lovely surprise this morning 🙂

A page of demos from our band ‘Dreams Before Waking’ from Providence, Rhode Island in 2010 just popped up on my feed.

‘DBW’ was a duo with the very wonderfully talented multi-instrumentalist Michael Oster.

I can only imagine what we could have created if we could have found other musicians to form a full band, but that was not to be 🙁

So, these demos have become a ‘moment in time’ to be enjoyed in 2024 🙂

Our beloved kitty Olwyn passed to the Summerland recently and I’ve just released this piece of music in her memory - and Olwyn gets to star in the production! She was the grand old kitty age of 21, and many times over the years I’ve recorded her purring as she lay on my belly asleep as I sat in my favourite chair, thinking “I’ll use that in my music one of these days.” Well now I have!

I hope that the piece captures her sweet, gentle and funny nature.

Less than 24 hours ago (6:00pm July 14th 2024) I was sitting in my recording studio in the Sonoran Desert in Baja Arizona. I heard a great roaring sound descending upon me and I jumped up and looked out of the window, only to see what can only be described as a vision from hell, with heavy rain and then hail being blown in every direction by the gale force winds. There was unbelievable thunder and lightening and I couldn’t see the houses across the street, but could see my car being pummeled with hail and debris flying and dancing through the air.

We were being visited by a desert monsoon storm, and all hell was raging.

Later, I found that the wind speeds categorized the storm as a hurricane.

This morning I tried to capture the sound of the storm, I feel that I got somewhere close. Have a listen at:

Our band ‘Trouz Bras’ (Big Noise) - the first band in the USA to exlusively perform the dance music of Brittany, was there one minute and gone the next.

I was sitting in my ‘dreaming chair’ in my studio this morning, revisiting some of my sound creations from over the years.

One project jumped out at me as being incredibly powerful. It was the one and only collection that I have created under my moniker ‘Trickster’ - it is a spoken word collection called ‘The Telling’ and it really moved me.

DREAMING of RAVENS, by RÆVYN track by Hodgepodge Music

LIMINALITY from THE DRØNE COLLECTION.

In anthropology, liminality (from Latin līmen 'a threshold') is the quality of ambiguity or disorientation that occurs in the middle stage of a rite of passage, when participants no longer hold their pre-ritual status but have not yet begun the transition to the status they will hold when the rite is complete.

During a rite's liminal stage, participants "stand at the threshold" between their previous way of structuring their identity, time, or community, and a new way (which completing the rite establishes).



THE DARKEST OCEAN is a Contemporary Dance company commission by my moniker STEER by STARS,

The dancers are lost at sea in a pitch black night - they are pitched and tossed across the stage and thrown through the air by the waves and wind.

It features pieces about Arthur, Guinevere, Morgan la Fey and Merlin.
