IT'S NATIONAL BIRD DAY!
TBG is a great place to do a little urban birding. Occasionally, inclement weather will blow in some avian species that are rarely seen in Southern Arizona, including this Black-throated Blue Warbler (Setophaga caerulescens) spotted in late October. Bring your binoculars or camera and stop by to see what you can spy with your little eye. Cardinals, hummingbirds, red-naped sap suckers, oh my!

Climate Change Conversations: Common Sense Cactus Conservation in the 21st Century - Tucson Botanical Gardens 12/06/2023

CLIMATE CHANGE CONVERSATIONS: Common Sense Cactus Conservation in the 21st Century
December 9 @ 10:00 am in the Porter Hall Gallery - FREE with admission
Cacti are one of the most endangered groups of organisms on the planet, besieged by poaching, habitat destruction, and climate change. Properly conserving our prickly friends in this changing world requires a paradigm shift in the way we view conservation, as well as increased collaboration between stakeholders from all levels of society.

Hear from Michiel Pillet, Program Officer of the IUCN Species Survival Commission Cactus and Succulent Plants Specialist Group. Dedicated to cactus conservation, he studies the impact of climate change on cacti. In 2021, he opened a conservation-focused cactus nursery, Prickly Prospects (www.pricklyprospects.com), which focuses on ethical propagation of the most endangered species. He believes strongly in the importance of holistic conservation management including both research in the field, as well as safeguarding the future of cacti by cultivating them.

Learn all about MISTLETOE and other PARASITIC PLANTS with naturalist Jeff Babson. Friday, Dec. 8 at 10am via Zoom.

This time of year, we hear a lot about mistletoe, at parties, in carols, on cards, and other avenues. In this class, we explore the reality of these fascinating plants. There are many misconceptions about mistletoe which we will debunk. For example, are they truly parasites? They are not the only parasitic plants out there. We will also survey some of these other plants that should not be thought of as freeloaders but of marvels of evolution.

Reserve your spot today, all TBG virtual classes come with a video replay that you can enjoy at your convenience.
