“Joy In the Making has a double meaning. It refers to the positive emotion the work elicits in the viewer and how I feel in the making of the work. I am happiest when I’m working, challenging my abilities, exploring new materials, problem solving—in essence, playing, with color and composition. I find meaning in the process of making, in working with my hands. The natural world serves as the source of my inspiration paired with my imagination. Joy In the Making garners artistic license from what I see in the world around me and entwines it with what I imagine. My materials are basic, plywood and paint, they express and define my aesthetic. Combined with my process, I build history into the surface to create artifacts of happiness.”
