In 2022, a letter arrived at our corporate office with two Pendleton labels and two wool shirt swatches. The sender, Mr. Tyler Brinker, wrote on a sticky note one of the shirts had been purchased in 1924 by his grandfather. The shirts were one of the very first ever made by Pendleton – we’re celebrating our 100th year shirtmaking this year. ⁠

To celebrate our landmark anniversary, our Mill Technical Design team analyzed Mr. Brinker’s swatch and determined the weave and fabric classification. Then, the team evolved the original weave by enlarging the pattern and developing a block plaid that featured the original pattern in the ground. Both patterns were ombred for our signature plaid look and then executed in a “Fancy Weave Umatilla” to create an interplay of yarns needed to execute the pattern.⁠
