Anyone out there looking for a place to office this year? We have two open desks and a private office open at the studio. Happy to send you details. But it's a beautiful, inexpensive space with great folks. We've had entrepreneurs, graphic designers, fine artists, video producers and more. Typically pretty quiet when there's not a shoot happening. Which is not as often as you might think. Message me for location, price and details. Great location!
Here are some musings on today.
Don't fuel the beast.... Use your efforts elsewhere.
Really great words from our Mayor GT Bynum on a number of topics including TPS Schools.
Great chat with the mayor today. Great insight on the region, TPS economic development and the last year of his final term.
Balance can be found in the most mundane places if only we care to see it.
Look... we're a little late getting this out... and it's not as organized as it usually is... but I think as you get older your desire to brag on yourself diminishes. I haven't done one of these the last several years. Largely because it's been a game of survival and I was just flat exhausted by the end. But with a great team (see comments) and some outstanding clients who were willing to let me take some chances I was able to make some truly outstanding images. One of my favorite things about myself is the depth of my ability to cover different subjects. This year was an exemplary example of that. I can't think of many subjects I didn't cover in Tulsa and beyond this year. What a fantastic year. Here's to the next.
Great work for a great client. Loved working on this project for PDG.
These are some images from last night’s TPS board meeting. I’ll continue to pursue this work as as long as it’s compelling. To what end I don’t know. But I do know a few things. 1. There simply aren’t enough cameras in the rooms where decisions are made for our children. 2. Not enough people attend these meetings. 3. It’s hands down the most important topic in our state at the moment. Bar none. Maybe you recognize someone here who represents you… but my guess is that there is no one quite like you at the meeting. And therefore… you should be there. The next meeting is August 15 @ 6:30pm.
If you want to check the realism of your retouching…. Do it with your young daughter on your lap. People can and should look nice… and still look like their authentic themselves.
Super excited about a couple of long term assignments that are going to put me back into the community at large after a couple years of limiting my exposure to the world.
Y’all….. I told em to make with the double trucks…. And they obliged. Six double trucks and six more full page photos plus the cover and 26 total pages of my work inside. This isn’t one to miss if you love being outdoors in this wonderful state. In mailboxes this week. On stands March 1st.
When I was in the newsroom full time we often classified individual people as “the institutional knowledge” of the paper. The term meaning that they had been covering the community for so long that they understood things and experienced history first hand that affected modern day stories in a way that younger reporters and photographers could not. As the days slip by and on this, the eve of my 45th year on this planet, I begin to realize that I am very slowly becoming the institutional knowledge. When I took on this assignment for the Washington Post regarding how long it takes communities to recover from major natural disasters I knew that I had been to Joplin before several times to cover the storm. What I didn’t really put together until actually on the scene is just how much I had experienced first hand and would remember about this particular story. Pairing the images from 10 years ago with the images from this weekend is painful in many ways and healing in others. Link to story in profile. “I'm very impressed with the photographer's ability to effectively capture a wide range of subjects, in an equally wide range of environments.”
I’m not an award chaser. In fact, I didn’t even know I entered this one (the magazine entered it for me) but Photographer of the Year always feels good because it’s a measure of an entire year’s work. A measure of your ability to consistently produce. And the judge’s comments make it all that much more meaningful to me because this is how I view myself. And… I think… how my clients view my work and why they value it so. Generalist is not a dirty word… if you’re good at it.
