Bama Theatre

The Arts Council of Tuscaloosa manages the Bama Theatre in Downtown Tuscaloosa.

The Bama Theatre is a historic theatre located in downtown Tuscaloosa surrounded by restaurants and night life. The theatre has been a Tuscaloosa feature since 1938 and continues as a venue for entertainment and art. The Bama Theatre is managed by The Arts Council and features the Bama Art House Film Series, Acoustic Nights, bands and performances from local arts organizations.

Last night, we had the incredible Sean Of The South at the theatre! He sang and told stories, filling the room with laughter and joy. After the show, Sean met with fans during a fun meet and greet. A huge thank you to the amazing volunteers from the RISE Center, Tuscaloosa who greeted our guests. What a night to remember!

Do Right: The Stallings Standard, a documentary about 1992 National Championship Coach Gene Stallings—who bridged the thirty-year championship gap between The University of Alabama coaching legends, Paul “Bear” Bryant and Nick Saban—while building international awareness and opportunities for people with developmental disabilities in a football family encouraged to always do the right thing.

The documentary produced by The University of Alabama Professors, Chandra Clark and Michael Bruce, is a timeless story of how Stallings and his family have advocated for individuals with special needs of all ages. This event will illustrate how they are championing a better life for all.

Our Story

Established in 1938 through funds from the Public Works Administration (PWA), the historic Bama Theatre continues to captivate audiences with its twinkling lights and exciting year-round performance calendar. Managed by The Arts Council, the theatre is a cornerstone of cultural activity and community events in Tuscaloosa and West Alabama.

The venue provides a rental location for productions presented by non-profit member organizations and community groups as well as concerts presented by outside promoters. Programming presented by The Arts Council includes the Bama Art House Film Series, educational programs, and local and statewide art exhibits.
