WEEKLY SPECIAL

The late-August / early-Sept. doldrums hit different for us all… Summer is most definitely over, but nobody in their right mind is gonna call it Fall just yet. In imagining special recipes, this puts us Baristas in a situation where about half the people want their Fall fix (warm spices, pumpkin, nuttiness, etc.) and the other half aren’t ready to leave behind their summer faves (tropical, sweet, refreshing, etc.)

Leave it to Ms Carley to buckle down and come up with a fix for this conundrum: the Serotinal Latte. Named, literally, for the span of time in the late Summer and early Fall where it’s not quite either, this serotinal treat is a season straddling beauty.

Our fragrant, masterfully roasted espresso from meets Caramel Crème sauce with Hazelnut and French Vanilla for a drink that is sort of reminiscent of Lucky Charms. Depending on your paradigm, the bright vanilla and the sweetness of the caramel lift and refresh like any good Summertime treat we serve… but the buttery notes in the caramel and the subtle nuttiness on the back can give that warm, “sweater and a good book on a brisk evening” feeling people crave in their Falltime goodness.

Look who’s here!! It’s the weird drink with a funny name that tastes like a dream: it’s Spumoni!

Dark and White Chocolate, Cherry and Pistachio meet in this drink and it’s like life-long friends. They play with our Mudslingers Espresso from like two five year olds rocking it at their favorite playground. Inspired by the ice cream of the same name (that we’ve STILL yet to find here in the South), it’s a smorgasbord of a sweet treat.

Quiet elegance. Simple pleasure. Caramel Macchiato!

This week we’re keeping it easy with a basic Caramel Macc. on special. This layered classic is a quaint mix of Vanilla and Caramel with a saucy swirl of Caramel Creme to cap it off.

One thing that we love about the Caramel Macchiato is its versatility. You can sip the strong espresso off the top, pulling and mixing the sweet milky base as you go. You can drop a straw in it and sample the velvety base for a sweet start, pulling the coffee downward for a stronger finish. You could work that straw like a submarine periscope to get the best of both worlds, or even just shake/stir it all together. However you like to drink it, we can make it up iced or hot (or blend it up as a Caramel Frap).

This week’s special is a Cracker Jack Latte! Ms Carley worked her magic and blended up Toffee Nut, Salted Caramel and Caramel Creme Sauce to mimic the iconic baseball treat as a celebration of our oldest, Griffin, who made the All Star team this season!

Our little guy has been a Baseball fan since ever, and has been playing in some capacity since he’s been old enough to stand up on his own (ask Ms Carley for some stories about hitting a ball into Papa’s TV while pretending to be the batter in the game he and Papa were watching or setting up his twin sisters as bases).

The fact that he was among those nominated to represent RCWLL fills us with joy, pride, and a bit of fear (we’d be deeply appreciative if any baseball families can give us some pointers through all this 😅😂). Swing by this week (what’s left of it) to try a Cracker Jack Latte!

Some of y’all might’ve seen the signs on the windows. For those who haven’t yet: we have some family from a LONG ways out of town (my folks, sister, and niece in from WA State). Today is their last day so we wanted to close up a bit early to get some time in with them.

We had planned on wrapping up the day around noon. With the storm rolling in today, though, we thought it would be best to just close up at 10:00, before it gets too crazy.

MEMORIAL DAY

This weekend we lift our prayers and our thanks to those who have shaped this country by giving their lives in her service. We celebrate and honor the memory of our fallen brothers and sisters as we enjoy and appreciate the freedoms they purchased for us by sacrificing everything they had to give. May we see the day when such sacrifice isn’t necessary… and, until then, may we never forget that our freedom isn’t free, and may we never take that for granted.

We will be open Monday, May 27, from 8-11 am. During this time, all Active Military and Veterans can get a free drink when they show their Military ID.

DECAF 😳

We’ve heard some murmurs of late regarding the chemical processing behind decaf coffee and the concern it’s causing. Did you know the FDA is discussing BANNING the use of chemicals commonly used to decaffeinate coffee!?! Well, we thought this would be a great opportunity for us to sort of toot our own horn and talk about our outstanding Decaf from the exemplary roasters!

We use Thomas Hammer (TH) for our decaf specifically because they choose a chemical-free method of producing their decaffeinated beans, opting for Swiss Water Process (SWP). Water processing has had a stigma in the past of diluting flavors; however, what most folks don’t know is that methods have greatly improved over the years to allow water processed decaf beans to retain the same full, robust flavors as non-decaf (meaning the choice to not use this method usually comes down to its cost vs. chem-decaf 😬)

TH’s use of SWP aligns with our values of serving the highest quality drinks possible by opting for natural ingredients, minimal processing, and eliminating as much artificial junk as we can. The idea of using chemical-ridden coffee might fly for some corporate bean counters watching their profit margins, but TH - and we - just couldn’t stomach the thought of serving that to our friends, family and community.

The choice to use TH, too, comes because we know their story, we love their brand, and we had enjoyed their coffee at many mom-and-pop stands back up in Washington. If we couldn’t get our roaster to do decaf, then we wanted another who shared a similar passion for excellence as the amazing local family who roasts the rest of our coffee. TH was a magical mixture of good hearted folks meets a company big enough to send small batches halfway across the country without us having to charge an arm-and-a-leg to afford shipping: win-win! 👍

So, rest assured that when you get decaf from Mudslingers you’re getting the same delicious, high quality coffee as your full-caff counterparts, and you’re getting it without the dangerous chemicals that the FDA is looking to ban in the US.
