Noonday Farmers Market kicks off today! Lots of fun for the family!

Make plans Saturday to stop by the special fall version of the Noonday Farmers Market. There will be a number of vendors, offering an array of handcrafted food items, crafts, decor and more. The market is set for 8 a.m. to 1 p.m., CR 196, next to City Hall. Come see us!

You will go to the campus your student is expected to attend to enroll them for the 2024-25 school year. The National Guard is handing out water, ice, MRE’s, and tarps for anyone who needs them at the First Baptist Church parking lot. Across from the library at 103 E Van until 7 today.

JUNE 6, 2024 SMITH COUNTY STORM UPDATE

Two PODs (Point of Distribution) centers are open until 7 p.m. today, Thursday, June 6, in Lindale and Chapel Hill.
Smith County residents who are suffering from power outages and/or property damage can go to Chapel Hill High School, located at 13172 Texas Highway 64 East, Tyler. Right now, the Chapel Hill site is distributing MREs (Meals Ready-to-Eat), ice, water and tarps.
At the First Baptist Church, located at 103 E. Van Street in Lindale, they are also distributing ice, water, tarps and MREs.
The Texas A&M Forest Service and the Texas Military Department are running the sites.
The POD in Chapel Hill opened around 11 a.m. on Wednesday and distributed four pallets of MREs, eight pallets of water, three pallets of tarps and four pallets of ice, before closing for the day at 5 p.m., Smith County Emergency Management Coordinator Brandon Moore said.
The POD in Lindale opened around 1:30 p.m. Wednesday and distributed one pallet of water, one pallet of tarps and half a pallet of ice.
Moore reported that about 6,500 people remain without power in Smith County Thursday morning.
The Smith County Emergency Operations Center will keep the PODs going, as well as the shelter at Bullard Intermediate School open, as long as there is a need for them.
Bullard Intermediate School, located at 218 School House Road, is open for those who need a place to go.
Red Cross is running the facility and Smith County CERT (Community Emergency Response Team) is assisting, in coordination with Bullard Independent School District.
For anyone in the community seeking shelter or needing assistance please refer them to call 1-800-REDCROSS and choose Option 4 for assistance.
The Forest Service also sent saw crews from its Texas Intrastate Fire Mutual Aid System to help the City of Tyler and Smith County clear trees from roadways, and they are continuing to work in the area today, Moore said.
Monday night’s storms caused damages throughout Smith County, causing more than 300 trees to fall on at least 100 county roads. That does not include roads belonging to cities in Smith County, or highways or farm-to-market roads owned by the Texas Department of Transportation.
On Thursday, June 6, all of the Smith County Justice of the Peace and Constables Offices in Lindale, Winona and Troup reopened after their power, phones and internet systems were restored.
