Just got a quote to replace a Ford Expedition tail light @ over $4000.

Cost to replace a Tesla tail light is under $400.

Please tell me more about how Teslas are expensive to repair.

Putt-Putt Golf is going to be closed for good after this week.

They've been open in Tyler,TX since 1959 and I decided to give them a little party.

TOMORROW at 8PM

Come play some mini golf at Putt-Putt golf in Tyler,TX.

It's my sort-of birthday party. Everyone is invited.

The first 20 people can play golf on me....

Gary, the attendant there, has been there since 1983 and his last day to work there will be June 23rd.

He's one of the sweetest and kindest men I have met and I would love it if people left him a tip as a "thank you".

For my present, this is all I ask.

I asked AI.

I was curious....

How long would it take to charge the DeLorean in Back to the Future to make a jump in time?

To determine how long it would take to charge the DeLorean EV to achieve the 1.21 gigawatts (GW) of power needed to jump through time, we need to make some clarifications and assumptions:

1.21 GW of Power: Power (in watts) is an instantaneous measure, not a measure of energy stored. However, for simplicity, we will consider how much energy (in kWh) would be needed to generate 1.21 GW of power for a specific amount of time.

Battery Capacity: We need to determine the energy required to generate 1.21 GW. Assuming the jump through time takes a fraction of a second, we can calculate the energy needed for 1 second of 1.21 GW power.

So, it would take approximately 89.4 minutes to charge the DeLorean EV to have enough energy to produce 1.21 gigawatts of power for 1 second using a Tesla 250 kW Supercharger, assuming 90% efficiency.

So is the AI right?

Putt-Putt Mini-Golf has been in Tyler,TX since 1959 and it's having its final day this month.

Before they close, I would like to invite anyone to join me for my birthday on June 15th for a round of mini-golf there.

For my present, I would like people to tip the attendant "Gary" there, that's it. He's a sweet man I would like him to know he's been valued....he's been working there since 1983!!

We start playing at 8PM and the more the merrier.

I'll bring cake, you bring you.

PSA: Are trees covered by insurance in Texas?

If a storm blows over your neighbor's tree, they are not liable. This is considered an act of nature, and your homeowners policy will take care of it. If your neighbor neglected their tree, they are liable for damages and their homeowners insurance policy should pay for damages.

Got an email from someone who thought I was somehow anti-Tesla....not sure where this came from, but I decided to reply to him.
_____________________________________________
Hey R****,

Thanks for the email.

I've been following and involved in the growth of hybrids and EV's since 2000.

I have several investments and Tesla is only one of them.

I have holdings with several EV makers and it's been a bit of a punishment supporting them, overall...these aren't stocks that rocking the world, right now.
I'm rooting for BYD and Rivian...I don't think Lucid is going to survive on its own.

I think Geely is massively clever and will be disrupting the market severely, when they pull their cars in through their Volvo channel in the USA this year.

I think Tesla lending out NACS to all EV makers is a brilliant and risky move on their part (see Patent USD694188S1).

They didn't have to do this...it's a terrible move, as a business, to give away proprietary technology to competitors, but it can foster a better chance of survival for EV's overall, by them doing this.

Tesla has put the most effort in creating an ecosystem where an everyday person can use an EV.

And they are creating a landscape, by default, that allows other EV's to exist.

If it were not for them, this email would be a non-discussion.

They are ever strengthening their support system, but they also have no PR and this is a big mistake.
They also have a CEO who desperately needs a publicist and a filter for his online presence.

They need to improve mass education of their product and they also need to keep investing into service centers.

My only intention, online, is to dispel massive levels of misinformation about these cars (and EV's, in general).

I lean more towards Tesla because they have something the other EV makers don't have....

GRAVITY.

You need this!!!

They have pulled off the near impossible, at this point.

Having a new US based automaker show up and thrive has never happened in a long time.

Think about it.

Who else has done this?

They have landed as not just a niche start-up car company, but one generating a gravitational impact that's forcing real change in the market.

You NEED that one player to cut out the path for other companies to thrive.

It was Ford in 1908 for cars...with the Model T.
It's Tesla for EV's in 2017...with the Model 3.

If there is going to be mass adoption and real change, they're going to be the company that can lead this.

There are many political motivations some people want in their failure.

One of those is the National Car Dealer Association (NADA)....they have a powerful lobby and a lot of money.

There are laws in place, right now, that allow franchise dealers the freedom to collude and falsely mark up cars.

You can see this in cars like the Toyota Prius, where the starting price is 27k, but they are marked up 8000 over sticker.

Direct sales from the manufacturers is overall illegal and people are required to buy cars ONLY through franchise suppliers, EXCEPT in 1996 GM had a caveat passed to go around franchise laws.

It was this: it allowed for EV's (not ICE) to be sold directly to the consumer.

The GM EV1 was responsible for the birth of Tesla here.

So long as a manufacturer sells ONLY EV's, they can sell their car directly to a consumer.

This also means they are not allowed to make hybrids or EV's with range extensions on them (which would be ideal for cars like the Cybertruck).

In 2007 various dealer associations tried to close any loopholes allowing sales online, and I was brought into play, with some talented people from Amazon, Google, and eBay to help write a law protecting online sales.

We got this done and the direct online sale model was now a thing....

By using a direct sale model, it allowed Tesla to work with minimal overhead to reach the consumer and build itself up to where it is now.

If they relied on a franchise systems, they would have been dead by 2012.

Franchise dealers hate this, because it's showing how useless they really are...how they hinder and hurt the consumer.

As manufacturers are moving more and more to EV production, what does this mean for these dealers?

It's their death. You bet they are scared.

This is also why they are generally resistant to sell EV's.

Other key players who want Tesla to fail would be oil, obviously.

I don't want EV's to fail. I don't want anyone to fail. But I do hate cars designed to fail and cars that "tax the poor" (this would be direct injection small-displacement turbo motors, where many ice carmakers are going to)....that's a whole other discussion.

I hope this answers your question. I'm happy to talk more about this over the phone, but it's very difficult to take the time to write messages.

This will be probably my only long reply, for lack of time.

I wish you well.

Respectfully,

Aaron Manley Smith

"But Tesla's can drive in the cold and your range goes down a ton!"

I literally take them into the slopes, they're amazing in the slippery stuff, and no....no....I don't see any major range reduction.

05/30/2024

Honestly, this a great idea....not sure how effective it is, but I like the concept.
Your EV will cool itself and charge while you're away.
It's not out yes, but they are taking deposits right now.

A bunch of factory upgrades, like Bilstien shocks, TRD skid plate, TRD air intake.

They were only sold in white.

If you want it, you can have it for 18900.

Not an ounce of rust on it.

In 1995, about 64% of kids aged 16 to 19 got their license to drive; by 2021, that number had dropped to under 40%.

According to the National Highway Administration, just 26% of 16-year-olds have their license, a nearly 50% drop from 1980.

Money is a factor. The cost of lessons, teen driver insurance rates, and historically high prices for used cars are strong culprits, paired with the new online generation.

PSA A client's Tesla was destroyed in a hail storm, just a week after buying it from us (yes, the one pictured).

The insurance company only wanted to pay him $10,000 less than he paid for it.

He contacted my 3rd Party appraisal office and we arbitrated this claim.

Within only a few days he got $18000 more than his insurance company was offering and another $8000 more than he paid for the car.

This is the very reason why it's so important to have a 3rd party appraisal service back you up.

If you have a total loss claim, please contact me so we can review this and make sure you are getting the settlement you deserve.

This is what is happening to Hertz's Teslas....

We score cars from 0 to 5.
0 is trash.
5. is new.

The average Hertz Tesla is a 2.2CR, this one is just slightly below the average.

The average Tesla lease return is a 4.1CR.

Ownership makes a massive difference between the 2 cars.

TRUE!!! But this headline is missing something big.

Over 5 years, the NHTSA found Tesla autopilot/FSD was in use for 956 total accidents over the course 6 billion miles of recorded data....and 29 total fatalities were linked to these accidents.

They also point out that the accidents could have been avoided if the people just paid attention to the warnings the car was giving, but it was too late before they intervened (if at all).

But even with this they also found the following to be true....

This is a rate of 1 accident per 6 million miles of driving recorded.

This is nearly 6 times better than the US average at 522K miles per accident.

US average is 1 death per 73 million miles traveled is the US average.

Tesla is 207 million miles of driving per death...this is 3 times better than the US average.

So, in Summary: According to this data autopilot / FSD tech reduces you chances of accidents by 6 times and increases your chance of living by 3 times.

How is this a bad thing?

Well, it gets more attention to word it as a negative thing, doesn't it?
