Those in attendance included the EMS bike team, Andy the Ambulance for the kids, caregivers teaching CPR and Stop the Bleed and the AIR 1 crew offering a look at the aircraft. The event also included health screenings from UT Health Quitman, UT Health North Campus Tyler, HealthFirst, UT Tyler School of Medicine and many more.

For 20 years, Mona Jimerson has honored first responders in the city of Henderson and Rusk County with the Law Enforcement and First Responders Appreciation Luncheon. When it started, there were only around 30 people in attendance. Today, that number reaches more than 700.

UT Health East Texas EMS/AIR 1 was at the event this year and is proud to serve the city of Henderson and be a part of the community. We are grateful to Ms. Jimerson for her support of the first responder family and thankful for the wonderful luncheon again this year.

UT Health East Texas EMS celebrates our most recent graduates from Paramedic School. Makayla Ashton, Stacey Copeland, Wyatt Copeland, Trystin Garrison, Jared Hand, Jacob Mocny, Linsdey Shuart, Katelyn Tallant and Zane Werner continued working as EMTs while attending paramedic school. This has been a yearlong process where they learned pharmacology and drug administration skills, advanced airway management and EKG reading skills, in addition to advanced life-saving skills and education. UT Health EMS is proud to have provided opportunities for these caregivers to take their careers to the next level in providing care to those in need.

PUBLIC NOTICE
The Commission on Accreditation of Medical Transport Systems will conduct an accreditation site visit of:

UT HEALTH EAST TEXAS AIR 1
on September 5th and 6th.

The purpose of the site visit will be to evaluate the program’s compliance with nationally established medical transport standards. The site visit results will be used to determine whether, and the conditions under which accreditation should be awarded to the program.

CAMTS accreditation standards deal with issues of patient care and safety of the transport environment. Anyone believing that he or she has pertinent or valid information about such matters may request a public information interview with the CAMTS site surveyors at the time of the site visit. Information presented at the interview will be carefully evaluated for relevance to the accreditation process. Requests for public information interviews must be made in writing and sent to CAMTS no later than 10 business days before the site survey begins. The request should also indicate the nature of the information to be provided during the interview. Such request should be addressed to:

The Commission will acknowledge such written requests in writing or by telephone and will inform the program of the request for an interview. The Commission will, in turn, notify the interviewee of the date, time and place of the meeting.

This notice is posted in accordance with CAMTS requirements and shall not be removed until the site visit is completed.

UT Health East Texas EMS was honored to host the National EMS Memorial Moving Honors at the AIR 1 hangar last Friday. The memorial allows EMS agencies and the community to recognize and remember the fallen EMS and air medical individuals who lost their lives in the line of duty in the past year. Tyler was one of only three stops in Texas as the memorial makes its way across the country, ending in Arlington, Virginia, for the 2024 National EMS Weekend of Honor July 19-21, during which the National EMS Memorial Service will pay tribute to 36 EMS and air medical fallen from 18 states across the U.S.

EMS CEO shocked by celebration of new U.S. Air Force Reserve rank 07/12/2024

Congratulations to UT Health East Texas EMS CEO John Smith on his well-deserved promotion to Chief Master Sergeant in the U.S. Air Force Reserve, a rank putting him in the top 1% of all of those enlisted in the military. “There was no question when it came time to promote John. He’s the best of the best,” said U.S. Air Force Maj. Aaron Wolfe, who traveled from Louisiana to Tyler to surprise Smith during a ceremony on Thursday.

EMS CEO shocked by celebration of new U.S. Air Force Reserve rank UT Health East Texas EMS CEO John Smith was surprised with a celebration for earning the rank of Chief Master Sergeant after 26 years in the U.S. Air Force Reserve.

UT Health East Texas EMS was prepared for the Tyler Fourth of July festivities and happy to help the East Texas community celebrate the July 4 holiday safely. Paramedic Aleisha Gonter, Paramedic Connor Coker, Paramedic Tanisha Williams, EMT Hannah Dozier, Regional Director Michael Pierce, and EMT Woodrow Wilson were on hand with an ambulance, the UT Health EMS Bike Team and the UT Health EMS Rapid Response UTV to assist if an emergency arose.

Members of the UT Health East Teas AIR 1 team provided helicopter landing zone safety training to multiple Rusk County fire departments, with more than 50 fire service members and first responders from across Rusk County participating.

“Working with our Rusk County first responders to secure a safe and appropriate landing zone for the aircraft is essential to our operations,” said AIR 1 Operations Manager Steven Jones. “Training like this helps to ensure the safety of the patient, our AIR 1 team and those around the scene.”

AIR 1 flight nurses Laura Hill, RN, and Jim Grogan, RN, were part of the training team.

UT Health East Texas EMS, along with multiple local fire departments, took part in water rescue training in Gun Barrel City with the Gun Barrel City Fire Department. Paramedic Richard McFadden served as the primary instructor, while EMT Lindsay Shuart, Paramedic Ashley Tupper, Offline Supervisor Kelentrea McGill and Offline Supervisor Cassandra Harrison also were involved the training exercise.
