Happy Earth Day!🌎
As our friends in Marin wisely suggest, supporting local farmers’ markets not only brings you fresher, tastier produce but also helps reduce your carbon footprint!👣
Let’s support our community and our planet by choosing fresh, locally sourced foods directly from the farmers’ market!🌱🍎
Happy Earth Day! We believe farmers markets represent one of the greatest gifts to the Earth by shortening our food supply chain and connecting eaters directly with producers.
Did you know that, on average, food travels about 1,500 miles from farms to our tables in the U.S.? The conventional system to transport food across the nation uses 4 to 17 times more fuel than foods sold locally, depending on the system and truck type. The same conventional system releases from 5 to 17 times more carbon dioxide emissions from the burning of this fuel than local food transport.
Did you also know that the average American meal has ingredients originating from at least five foreign countries? Transporting this food to the U.S. requires several modes of transportation and the accompanying release of carbon emissions.
At farmers markets, local foods produce fewer carbon dioxide emissions than national and imported markets. Eating and purchasing food and products at farmers markets keeps food miles short, and in turn supports the farms and small businesses in our own backyards. The food less traveled is typically more nutritious and favored by many chefs for better taste.
Thank you all for being our Earth heroes!
Stop by and visit our newest vendor, Mamahouse Bakeshop! They have kouign amann, cookies, croissants, and so much more 🥐🫓 come but today and every Saturday, 8am-12pm
