Attention LMHS parents: Please see the attached the Lake Middle High School Ohio State Testing Schedule for your reference, and our students should have also received their own personal testing schedule within the last couple of weeks. As you will see, our tests begin this week with our 7th, 8th, and 10th graders taking the English Language Arts (ELA) test. This particular test takes the most time and, as a result, those who are testing will report to school at their normal time and those who do not test this week will not need to report to school until 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday and Thursday.
All other test dates will fall on Tuesdays and Wednesdays (April 16, 23, 24, 30 and May 1), and we will have a 2-hour delayed start on each of those days. Buses will run at the normal times at the beginning and ending of each day. Students who are not testing and who arrive at their normal times or earlier than necessary should report to the main gym for a supervised study period.
The Vitalant blood drive will be held Friday, April 19 at Lake Middle High School from 7:30am -1:45pm. 16 year-olds may donate with a parent consent form. Lake STEM Team’s Rube Goldberg 2024
For the 2024 Goodyear STEM Career Day, Lake High School's STEM team embarked on an exhilarating challenge: to construct a Rube Goldberg machine inspired by elements from the upcoming Olympic Games. This task brought together a talented group of individuals across various grade levels: seniors Gabrielle Farcas, Marissa Hall, Tanya Kotyk, and Ella Moore; juniors Carson Craig, Joshua Davis, Adam Hess, and Sydney Lisy; sophomores Cameron Gregory, Jenna Kunes, Grace Swihart, and Alexander Yokley.
Their goal was to devise a machine that could dispense toothpaste onto a toothbrush while incorporating the excitement and dynamism of Olympic-themed elements. Drawing inspiration from the spirit of competition, athleticism, and global unity epitomized by the Olympics, the team infused their design with creativity and ingenuity.
Each component of the machine represented different aspects of the Olympic Games, such as the intensity of a track start race, the precision of downhill skiing, or the teamwork of a relay race. By integrating STEM principles with elements of Olympic symbolism, the team created a captivating and innovative contraption.
Their hard work and dedication led to a well-deserved second place finish at the 2024 Goodyear STEM Career Day Rube Goldberg Challenge. While they narrowly missed the top spot, their achievement is a testament to their technical skills, teamwork, and imaginative problem-solving abilities.
As they reflect on their performance, the team cherishes the lessons learned and the camaraderie fostered throughout the experience. They express their gratitude to the Zachary Doherty Memorial Scholarship Fund for their generous support, which made it possible for them to participate in the competition.
With their Olympic-themed Rube Goldberg machine, Lake High School's STEM team has left a lasting impression, inspiring others to push the boundaries of innovation and creativity in pursuit of excellence. They eagerly anticipate future challenges and opportunities to showcase their skills on the STEM stage.
