You may have noticed some big changes in the HUB recently while standing in line for your ☕ Starbucks! Rosemarie Fiore’s beloved Smoke Paintings have been relocated to the IM Building and will remain on view there for the next three years! 🎨✨ We are thrilled to partner with Campus Recreation in this endeavor and would like to thank HUB-Robeson Center’s Facilities tech service crew and O.P.P for their assistance. 🙌
As for the HUB, we’ve unearthed three of our multicultural murals from the archives that were created in the early 1990’s. 🖼️ Conceived as a cross-cultural experience for the Penn State community, the Multicultural Mural Project was sponsored by the Office of Student Affairs in collaboration with the School of Visual Arts. The murals were created by students from the School of Visual Arts, Black Caucus, Latino Caucus, Native American Student Association, and the Puerto Rican Student Association. This project was spearheaded by the founding director of HUB-Robeson Galleries – Ann Shields. 🌍🤝
Be sure to take some time to enjoy these wonderful murals! 🎨🖼️

Many thanks to Supaman & DJ Element for visiting Cannupa Hanska Luger’s exhibition ‘Reunion’ this morning! It was a pleasure!! 🙂

HUB-Robeson Galleries honors Indigenous Peoples Day. We wish to acknowledge the native people, past, present and future who walk on these lands. ✨

Currently on view in HUB Gallery, 'Reunion' is an immersive, multi-disciplinary exhibition featuring sculpture, regalia, and digital media by New Mexico-based, contemporary artist Cannupa Hanska Luger. Using bison as a symbol of freedom for many cultures Indigenous to North America, 'Reunion' mourns the near loss of this mighty species and the violence that has built our country while celebrating the bison’s resilience and in turn our own.

This exhibition empowers Indigenous people and practices as central to global futures and reflects a future space where we once again live in reverence and respect for our more than human kinships.

The Penn State University campuses are located on the original homelands of the Erie; Haudenosaunee (Cayuga, Onondaga, Oneida, Mohawk, Seneca, and Tuscarora); Lenape (Delaware Nation, Delaware Tribe, and Stockbridge-Munsee); Shawnee (Absentee, Eastern, and Oklahoma); Susquehannock; and Wahzhazhe (Osage) Nations.

As a land grant institution, we acknowledge and honor the traditional caretakers of these lands and strive to understand and model their responsible stewardship. We also acknowledge the longer history of these lands and our place in that history. (Written by PSU Educational Equity in collaboration with the Indigenous Peoples Student Association and the Indigenous Faculty and Staff Alliance). 🌿

Zachary Layhew first discovered glass as an artistic medium in 2007 at the age of fourteen, during his time at the Pittsburgh Glass Center. 🏙️ Immersed in an environment of passionate fellow artists, Zachary quickly developed a deep connection to the material. Through years of observation and hands-on practice, he honed the techniques needed to craft stunning glass vessels and sculptures. 🖼️👐
His work often revolves around the use of simple, clean shapes to capture moments of clarity from everyday life. Inspired by fleeting instances where life feels less complicated—when you can step back, take a breath, and let go of tension—Zachary channels these experiences into his art. ✨🌿 Relationships with friends, family, and personal encounters have all shaped his creative process.
Currently focused on a single body of work, Zachary is continuously developing new ideas. His process begins with hours of sketching designs and concepts, refining them before translating his drawings into glass sculptures in the studio. 📖🔮 Each piece is a reflection of both his life experiences and the endless possibilities the medium offers.

Have you had a chance to experience Expansive habitat, the rhizome of home in Art Alley?
In this beautiful exhibition by Vee Adams and Andrea Narno the artists utilize cyanotype techniques to create quilts and soft sculptures. Each work features photographic imagery that captures the plants they have cultivated, collected, and treasured in their natural habitats. Read on to learn more about the fascinating technique of cyanotype!

🎨 Discovering Cyanotype: A historic photographic printing process dating back to the 19th century! Known for its beautiful blue hues, Cyanotype uses sunlight to create stunning prints on paper or fabric. Artists coat their chosen surface with a light-sensitive solution, then expose it to sunlight (or UV light) to develop intricate blue and white designs. It's a fantastic technique for exploring creativity through a blend of science and art. Have you tried Cyanotype before? Share your creations with us by tagging or sending us a direct message! 💙 For more detailed instructions and inspiration, check out the guide to Cyanotype: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pM74pMkUxCM
