The Harkins team traded in their hard hats for baseball caps yesterday to watch the Baltimore Orioles play the Atlanta Braves at Camden Yards. It was a fantastic day filled with excitement, camaraderie, and unforgettable moments as everyone cheered on their home team.

Harkins' employee-owners are the best in the galaxy!

Last Thursday, 21 of our employee-owners participated in Olympic-style sporting events that took place at The St. James in Springfield, VA. Hosted by the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation (JDRF), these games contribute to the millions of dollars the foundation raises each year to help find a cure for Type 1 Diabetes (T1D) in children.

Throughout the day, our team participated in the following events: basketball, soccer, co****le, relays, ropes course, climbing challenge, volleyball, fastball, noodle javelin throw, giant Jenga, pickleball, 40-yard dash, golf, and puzzles.

Breakthrough T1D

Yesterday, our summer interns had the pleasure of attending ABC Greater Baltimore's Construction Education Academy. This training program provides our interns with a firsthand look at what to expect on a construction site, ensuring they are well-prepared for their first day at their designated jobsites.

Our interns participated in hands-on tutorials covering plumbing, HVAC, electrical work, carpentry, a heavy equipment demo, and an introduction to blueprint reading.

Thanks to ABC Greater Baltimore for ensuring this next generation of construction professionals are ready to tackle their jobsites!

Harkins is excited to introduce our 2024 summer interns!

These 19 young professionals will spend the next few months gaining construction knowledge, skills, and experience through reporting daily to their designated project teams or departments. All of our interns are currently pursuing industry-related degrees at four-year universities, so they are eager to absorb as much information as possible during their time with us.

Our HYPE (Harkins Young Professionals Experience) affinity group hosted it's second event of the year!

A group of our employee-owners gathered at Bowlero in Columbia, MD, for an evening of strikes and spares. Everyone enjoyed bonding over bowling and great conversations.

On Wednesday, May 29th, Harkins joined project partners for the celebration of the grand opening of Christ's Home Wing Addition in Warminster, PA.

Our team is excited to officially add this expansion to the existing Christ's Home community. The expansion features 30 new independent living units, a new medical suite, and the renovation of Smyth Hall and the existing bistro. In addition, there is a large, two-story lobby with a fireplace and seating, a movie theater, and a community room.

Thank you to client Christ's Home, architect Lenhardt Rodgers Architecture + Interiors, and all project partners who contributed to this much-need expansion in Bucks County!

Congratulations to our very own Assistant Controller Jacqui Ray for being awarded Young Professional of the Year by the Howard County Chamber of Commerce!

Each year, the Howard County Chamber presents the Awards for Chamber Excellence (ACE) to deserving members (businesses and individuals) who have made an outstanding contribution to their field, have achieved extraordinary success, or have improved the business community in general.

Jacqui is very active in Howard County on both a professional and personal level, and Harkins appreciates all her efforts to create and encourage opportunities for her fellow young professionals. We are proud to have her as part of our team and look forward to her continued success and contributions to the community.

Last Thursday, the Harkins team joined client Laurel Street Residential, architect Shook Kelley, Inc., and other project partners for the groundbreaking of Springhouse Square in Charlotte, NC.

When complete, the community will feature 136 units spread across nine buildings, including a senior housing building, a clubhouse, and several stacked-unit buildings for families. Additionally, Springhouse Square will have a 100-unit, four-story senior building. A multitude of amenities will also be available throughout the community.

We look forward to collaborating with project partners on this exciting new development in Mecklenburg County!

In honor of Memorial Day this year, Harkins would like to recognize a special individual who made the ultimate sacrifice for our country. Lance Corporal (LCpl) Daniel J. Geary, a close friend of one of our Harkins employee-owners, was a U.S. Marine who was killed in Afghanistan on March 20, 2009. Daniel served honorably as a Marine for six years.

To pay tribute to Daniel, The Harkins Foundation made a donation to a nonprofit organization that is near and dear to Daniel's family. Located in Utica, NY, Feed Our Vets is a nonprofit that has provided free food assistance to more than 52,000 Veterans and their family members since 2009.

We'd like everyone to take a moment to recognize the individuals who have made the ultimate sacrifice for our freedom.

Harkins is proud to announce our ranking of #174 on Engineering News-Record's 2024 Top 400 Contractors list!

The Top 400 Contractors list highlights the leading construction firms based on their annual construction revenue. This achievement reflects our unwavering commitment to excellence and our continuous growth as an employee-owned company.

Harkins recently completed construction on Friendship Court Redevelopment Phase I, now known as Kindlewood, in Charlottesville, VA. This milestone coincides with the opening of our new office in Richmond, further strengthening our presence in the Central Virginia/Hampton Roads region.

This project is the first of a multi-phase redevelopment and features the new construction of a three-story wood frame apartment building, two buildings of stacked townhomes, and a one-story parking garage. In addition, the community offers a multitude of amenities such as a large multipurpose room, library, conference room, an in-house management suite, storage space for residents, and two fitness rooms.

We'd like to thank to client Piedmont Housing Alliance, architect Grimm + Parker Architects, and all other project partners who contributed to the first phase of this redevelopment project in the City of Charlottesville!

On Thursday, May 16th, Harkins attended AHC's Career Night in Arlington, VA. At the event, our very own Project Engineer Matthew Yount presented to 20 high school students about what Harkins does.

Recapping the event, Matthew said, "I was happy to share my experiences with such a motivated group of students exploring potential careers. I hope I was able to pass on some of the knowledge and experience I've gained at Harkins and inspire some of the students to consider building as a career. I'd like to thank AHC and Greg Pearson for the opportunity, and I look forward to similar opportunities in the future."

AHC Affordable Housing

On Monday, May 6th, The Harkins Foundation hosted its 2024 charity golf tournament at Waverly Woods Golf Course in Marriottsville, MD.

With funds raised from the tournament, the Foundation donated $45,000 to nine charities in support of their missions. These charities were nominated by Harkins' employee-owners.

Yesterday, Harkins attended CHAI's 40th Anniversary Party in Baltimore, MD. Our team was thrilled to join in on the celebration of four decades of CHAI's remarkable contributions to the community.

For three decades, Harkins has proudly partnered with CHAI on a variety of projects. From high rise transformations to new community centers, this collaboration on projects has positively impacted the communities in which we work.

The Harkins Foundation was proud to be a sponsor of this event that supports one of Harkins' long-term partners. We look forward to continuing our partnership with CHAI for years to come!

Harkins is rebuilding our community! Last Saturday, our team participated in Rebuilding Together Howard County's Annual Rebuild Day.

Our employee-owners enhanced a family's home through performing landscape work, repairing broken doors, replacing rotten deck boards, and replacing a fence gate to allow for better access to the backyard garden. In addition, the Harkins team replaced outdated electrical devices, added new light fixtures, painted a large section of the house, and replaced toilets and leaking faucets. We made the family's home a safer and more comfortable place to live.

Check out the progress at our Lofts at Kennett Square project in Kennett Square, PA!

When complete, Lofts at Kennett Square will comprise of a 166-unit luxury apartment community spread across two, four-story buildings. The community will soon provide residents with various amenities such as a fitness center, multiple media rooms, and a 138-space below-grade parking garage.

Our team is looking forward to soon offering this market rate community to the residents of Chester County.

In celebration of Take Your Child to Work Day 2024, our employee-owners and their children gathered at three of our offices yesterday. The kids had a blast throughout the day as they got a firsthand look of where their parents work.

They engaged in fun and interactive activities, toured our various departments, and learned all about what Harkins does from different employee-owners. Our team loved sharing their passion for construction with their kids and inspiring them to explore potential career paths in the industry.

The Harkins team proudly joined forces at Woodlawn High School for an exciting day of community camaraderie at SOY (Save Our Youth) Baltimore's 2nd Annual Kickball Tournament!

Our employee-owners showed off their skills and teamwork in four kickball matches against other teams. In support of SOY Baltimore, an organization that is committed to inspiring change and repairing relationships between youth, community, and law enforcement, this event raises money for the nonprofit to continue their impactful work across Baltimore County.

This yearly occasion raises funds and awareness for the Sexual Assault Forensic Examination (SAFE) and Domestic Violence (DV) program, an initiative that never closes its doors and relies entirely on the support of their community. This program provides essential services for victims 24/7/365. The Harkins team joined in the fight against violence in our community with champion efforts from Government Business Development Manager Liz Krick and Project Assistant Mary Lowery.

Harkins celebrated National Earth Day with a fiesta of flavor!

Our very own PC Technician Brian Lombardo prepared a delicious Mexican-style lunch for our employee-owners to enjoy. Brian prepared homemade fixings for make-your-own tacos and nachos.

On Friday, April 19th, Harkins celebrated the grand opening of Legacy at Twin Rivers, formerly known as Roslyn Rise, in Columbia, MD.

Our team is thrilled to officially bring this new 153-unit modern and sustainable mixed income community that is spread across two four-story buildings. The project offers a variety of amenities including leasing and management offices, business center, fitness center, homework room, mail room, dog park, playground, and cast-in-place below-grade parking for residents.

Congratulations to long-term client Enterprise Community Partners for achieving a milestone of one million homes created since 1982!

We'd also like to thank architect Grimm + Parker Architects and all other partners who played a crucial role in bringing this exciting development to Howard County.

Last night, Harkins attended the NAIOP Maryland Awards of Excellence, an event that celebrates the highest quality achievements in commercial real estate and honors the regional companies and individuals who service the CRE industry in Maryland.

Vice President of Project Development Steve Rubin and Project Development Manager Kristen Schrader gathered at the Baltimore Marriott Waterfront to represent Harkins and our two projects, The Ruby at Somerset and Parkway Overlook, which were nominated for awards.
