Promoter of personal and economic freedom for St. Johns County

Thank you Commissioner Waldron for voting against drafting such a referendum. Voters should not forget that the other four members of the Board voted it support of the measure.

SJC 101: Local Government Infrastructure Surtax Option

At the Feb. 15 regular meeting, the Board of County Commissioners voted 4-1 to request staff draft a proposed ordinance to increase St. Johns County’s sales tax by one penny.

Before a sales tax increase can go into effect, several steps must occur:

• The proposed infrastructure sales tax ordinance is read at regular meetings on Mar. 1 and Mar. 15.

• If the Board passes the proposed ordinance on Mar. 15, it will then go to a referendum for voters to decide on Nov. 8, 2022.

• Should the Board vote to do so, an audit will occur by a certified public accountant.

• The audit will outline several key factors, including the economy, effectiveness of the program, and how the ordinance will accomplish goals and objectives. This information will be available to the public 60 days before election day.

• Should the general public vote to pass the sales tax increase, the 10-year ordinance will go into effect on Jan. 1, 2023.

St. Johns County will continue to update the public on the proposed ordinance in the coming weeks.

Village Garden Food Truck Park in St. Augustine denied liquor license — again 10/12/2021

This one really bothers me. Imagine an America that allows property owners to sell goods of their choice on the property they own. An unelected board should not have the power to dictate what a property owner can or can’t sell.

Happy to represent a group that promotes peace, prosperity, and personal freedom.

Welcome to the Halls of the 100@25 Club, where we share an inside view of the Libertarian Party of Florida’s most loyal supporters.

This week’s highlighted member is Austin Lanteigne.

Austin first joined the Libertarian party in 2016 while he was living in Mississippi serving in the Navy. He met his wife Kara of 8 years while he was in flight school in Pensacola. They now have 3 children. Their son Weston is 5, and their twin daughters Sonny and Sage are 5 months old.

His current position as Region 5 Representative for the LPF is the first time he’s served in an official capacity. He ran for political office in 2020 for the St John’s County Airport Authority Board at the urging and with the mentorship of another 100@25 Club member, John Thompson. Unofficially, he serves with St Augustine’s libertarian group with their adopt-a-highway program on highway A1A. Having the St Augustine’s Libertarian Party sign on the highway really helps bring visibility to the party in the community. It is his goal to get that group officially affiliated as the Libertarian Party of St John’s County.

Austin earns his living in the participant sports industry working for Sports Edge Athletics hosting tournaments and leagues. The Covid sanctions really affected them and limited participation. He is able to share his libertarian views in the company as they have discussions on how to move forward with certain decisions, especially as it relates to insurance concerns regarding certain Covid mandates. He is able to be the “devil’s advocate” and expose his co-workers to the libertarian point of view.

Austin exemplifies his commitment to freedom and liberty with his time commitments as a volunteer, as well as through his financial support of the party. If you haven’t got the time, you can still support libertarianism in Florida with recurring contributions. A $25 monthly gift earns you a membership to the LPF 100@25 Club where you get access to the private chat group. To join, simply go to lpf.org/contribute/100at25-club/ and start a monthly contribution of at least $25. We look forward to seeing you in the Halls of the LPF 100@25 Club!

I’ve struggled to come to grips with what has unfolded in Afghanistan. I know service members who have lost life and/or limb as a result of this conflict, so it certainly has a personal element. When I joined the military I believed our involvement in Afghanistan was a positive thing. We were “growing liberty” and we were “promoting equality” and “increasing individual rights.” As years passed by I realized the eventual conclusion was exactly what we were going to see unfold this week.

We were never going to be there forever; nor should we as this should have never been the solution to some sort of imperialistic dream.

But who did win from this 20 year involvement? It wasn’t you the veteran, nor you the taxpayer. No. Instead, it was the defense contractors who used this two decade conflict in their favor. Veterans and taxpayers were the real losers here.

This is the purpose behind the constitutional declaration of war that has been a void in our system for over 80 years.

It’s time for checks and balances. Not only between our governmental entities. But between you, the voter, and our representatives.

We should stop all involvement in foreign conflict now.

St. Johns County OKs $16.8 million deal for PGA Tour 19/05/2021

Thank you Commissioner Smith for voting against this deal. Taxpayers should not be forced into a 25 year agreement with a private business that will cost them millions of dollars.

No, I am not “anti-vaccine.”

I am “anti-the government requiring you to get one.” If you would like to get a vaccine I encourage you to do so. If a business wants to require you to be vaccinated in order to do business with them, I support their desire to do just that.

Plans buzz along for multimillion-dollar mosquito museum in St. Johns County 15/03/2021

“To pay for mosquito-control services, the district levies a property tax. So the funding for the education center is coming from county taxpayers. The tax rate hasn't been increased for the project.”

This immediately suggests, to me, that SJC property owners are being overtaxed for mosquito control services. No reason for the mosquito control to build reserves through existing funds to build a mosquito control museum. Unbelievable.

Running for political office was no easy feat but I am extremely thankful for all of the support. My family and I couldn’t have made it through all the political nonsense without your support. We THANK YOU!

On to the next challenge!

Extremely thankful for this guy next to me. While he originally signed up to be my campaign treasurer that quickly expanded to so much more. I am not sure if I would have finished this race if he wasn’t along my side the whole way. Thank you big (but smaller) bro. I love you and I am extremely thankful I had you by my side for this adventure! Adam Lanteigne

04/11/2020

Congratulations to Robert Olson on his victory! I am so thankful and blessed for all of the support and help that I received in this race and couldn’t have done it without Kara Lanteigne and Adam Lanteigne as they kept me motivated in such a challenging process.

As the only candidate on the ballot that didn’t appear on either major party voter slate card I am thrilled with our result! I will always favor personal and economic freedom and will fight for liberty no matter how I get to serve our community.

Thank you all for the support along the way!

Why The First Name On The Ballot Often Wins 28/10/2020

Know how crazy our democracy can be? Where your name falls on a ballot can have a ten-point impact in local political contests!

“The order of names on the ballot for lower-profile races is very large. Going from last to first on the ballot raises a candidate's vote share by 10 percentage points.”

Why The First Name On The Ballot Often Wins Presidential elections draw lots of attention, but voters also have to make lots of less familiar choices. The order in which their names are listed on the ballot can help candidates, a study shows.

Opinion | The Real Divide in America Is Between Political Junkies and Everyone Else 27/10/2020

“For partisans, politics is a morality play, a struggle of good versus evil. But most Americans just see two angry groups of people bickering over issues that may not always seem pressing or important.”

I’d argue this feeling is a result of today’s political environment as it encompasses representation from only two parties. The duopoly wants voters to see only two ways to accomplish goals and tasks but that is often way too elementary for the complexities we actually face.

Nonetheless, this was a great read!

Opinion | The Real Divide in America Is Between Political Junkies and Everyone Else Most Americans view politics as two camps bickering endlessly and fruitlessly over unimportant issues.

Thank you VOTE411 for allowing me to share a vision for a better airport and better St. Johns County community.

Q: Is there a specific message you would like to send to voters prior to the election?

A: First and foremost, I pledge to keep the airport off of the county tax rolls. I will never vote in favor of any taxes on our residents and I will never vote in favor of land acquisitions that increase governmental property. I will fight to maintain a balanced budget, be active in our community and develop plans for the airport to give back to the everyday citizen. This is a public airport that receives a substantial amount of governmental grants each year and the average resident sees no benefit. We need to find ways to engage with our community, specifically the youth who can benefit from the educational STEM opportunities that arise within the aviation industry.
