The MN Muskie Expo was a BLAST and super successful!
Feel free to swipe through the pics or if you want the back-story….well, read on!
Here are a few of my favorite pics.
1. Time spent with my daughter, Anika, was priceless. We only have one more show like this together and then she’s off to college. Soaking it all in. It goes against every fiber of my being to buy an oat milk fru-fru steamed mint late mixer and a croissant for 17 bucks every morning at some overpriced coffe joint drive through - but we did! I’ll be sad in two years when we can’t.
2. Paul Kuhn is a dear friend of mine. Much of my love for fishing is due to him. He’s a man of character and quite the angler. You can learn a lot more than fishing when you share a boat with someone older/wiser. (That’s not suppose to be a dig!)
3. This college kid is quickly becoming a LEGEND! No joke! Back to back champ of the Frank Schneider Tournament. Pic in magazine is of the 2022 results. He dominated again at the 2023 event. He’s a good kid and I’m rooting for him. His name is Ayden Froeschle. Stud!
4. These kids have yet to catch a muskie but are fired up to do so. Crazy chain of events. Try to follow. Ayden (college kid above) was gifted an awesome bucktail by Steve Ejnik of Wicked Deadly Outdoors. Ayden is sponsored by Musky Mayhem. So he can’t really run it so he randomly gave this bucktail to a kid in the crowd. It happened to be this kid that later wandered into our booth - the kid in the orange shirt. They live near the St. Croix River where Ayden guides in the spring. While I was talking to the dad I told him a bout a good guide (Ayden). Crazy if this kid catches a monster and was guided by Ayden. If he does - I’m taking partial credit!
5. This is an all time gem here. This kid is now a senior in high school. He came to the show with his dad 6 years ago. His dad said he could pick out any one bait in the entire arena. He chose one of my baits back in 2018! They come by the booth every year. This young man is confident, polite, respectful. He’s a part of his high school fishing team and they dominate!
Thanks to everyone that came by and bought a boat, a keychain or a hat. And thanks to those that stopped by to say hello. The Muskie community is awesome and we are so appreciative.

Am gonna give those who “follow” the Harvey Baits page first crack at these before hitting other pages.
Drew Fleury just finished up a batch of baits. He is covering his sophomore year expenses at college (pre-med) and all proceeds from sales will go towards that “investment”.

These are Harvey blanks that he has painted and finished. They meet my expectations and have been lake tested/tuned.
The Haymaker is one of the best glide baits on the market. User friendly. Great hang.
The Large Fry Twitch - 11” - has a super wide footprint with outstanding belly flash.
The Medium Fry Twitch - 8” - has a lot of thump for a smaller bait. Rip it, pull/pause, slow roll it. Just get it back to the boat.

One of my friends holds an event each year to honor Veterans. His organization lines up a weekend and covers all expenses - lodging, food, and fishing guides. What a great event!
He asked me to paint up a few keychains for them. This is what I came up with.

A little bit about Harvey Baits
A few years back I wanted to do some repaints on some of my favorite baits that have been “chewed” too many times. In doing some research on how to “finish” them after painting, I stumbled on some videos on how to create your own. I’ve always enjoyed projects, DIY stuff, and woodworking so I thought I’d give it a go. I made a few baits for myself and fellow friends who chase toothy critters. And lo-and behold – they worked! My brother-in-law invited me to join The Muskie Flea Market and I started listing/selling baits on that site. The Harvey Baits brand has grown incrementally over the years. I am humbled by the support of new and returning customers.
I love my occupation (Associate Pastor) but that occupation requires I work on Sundays. Combine that with the fact I live in Kansas City, MO and I have very limited time and access to waters that hold muskies. I do sneak away a time or two to chase muskies in MN and Canada each year, but making baits helps me stay close to a sport I really enjoy even though I’m not on the water as much as I’d like. No regrets! I’ll make up time on the water when I retire.
Side note: Many have asked where the name Harvey came from. My late grandpa on my mom’s side was named Harvey. He also was a pastor for many years in Milwaukee, WI. He was my hero! So each bait is made with pride in remembrance of him. This little hobby has also created some revenue that wasn’t there in the past and I am very aware of the blessing. Harvey Baits has been fortunate enough in the past to work with other great bait builders and painters in raising support for church missions work and global humanitarian needs our local church supports. Since the inception of Harvey Baits we have raised over $9000 for such needs. And moving forward – a minimum of 10% of all revenue will get funneled back into the local church and/or mission type projects. I say it often, but it is so true….what a super fun hobby!
