In just 100 days we’ll be toeing the line in Kontiolahti to kick off the 2024-25 World Cup season 😆 in anticipation of the season, here’s a look back at some of the highlights from this past season 🤘🏼

Club highlight ✨

Ethan Allen Biathlon Club started in the mid ‘90s as one of the original U.S. Biathlon Regional Centers of Excellence. The club trains at the Camp Ethan Allen Firing Range, also home of Vermont Army National Guard & National Guard Biathlon! EABC also has a close relationship with Mansfield Nordic Club and train at the same venue!

For the past 4 years, EABC & VTARNG have hosted U.S. Biathlon’s Summer Nationals and we thank them for delivering an amazing event each year!

A special shoutout to John Madigan, who has been involved with EABC for close to 20 years and has been instrumental in getting the club to where it is today; to coach Sarah Lehto, who bring an immense amount of knowledge to the developing athletes; to Eric Tremble for his many years as club secretary and chief timer; to Matt Thomson & Tom Lane for their many hours of time dedicated to making our races, run smoothly; and to parental volunteers for never hesitating to help out wherever is needed!

The Summer Rollerski Championship Series included race weekends Soldier Hollow Nordic Center , Ariens Nordic Center and the Ethan Allen Firing Range (Ethan Allen Biathlon Club & Vermont Army National Guard / National Guard Biathlon !) with over 400 starts between the 6 races⚡️

Club highlight ✨

The National Guard Biathlon program started in VT in 1973 and, in many ways, was the defacto governing body for biathletes in the U.S. until the recognition of the U.S. Biathlon Association internationally in 1981! Currently, there are 4 VT National Guard athletes on U.S. Biathlon’s National Team and 3 athletes on its National Development Group roster.

Fun fact: In 1988, the National Guard Biathlon program had its first athlete compete at the Olympics, Lyle Nelson and Curt Schreiner. Since then it has had at least one National Team member for each Olympics since!

The 45 athletes raced in an individual & mass start Ariens Nordic Center, with a bonus shootout on Saturday, AND got to race alongside Olympian Paul Schommer on his new home course, so it’s safe to say we had a TON of fun in Brillion with everyone 🥳

From the largest team camp in organization history to our coaches conference Ariens Nordic Center and launching the Women’s Coaching Initiative to 2 REG camps to the 1st of 3 Regional Summer Rollerski Champs Soldier Hollow Nordic Center and everything in between 😮‍💨

A look at the recent REG camps at Soldier Hollow Nordic Center and Mt Van Hoevenberg👀

33 youth biathletes were selected for regional select camps in Utah & Lake Placid where they put in big hours, worked on their shooting precision, got to compete on roller skis and in shootouts, had some world-class fun, and even had the opportunity to talk with National Team athletes Nik Burkhart & Vincent Bonacci!

Club Highlight ✨

NYSEF Nordic (New York Ski Education Foundation) is located in the heart of the Adirondacks in the 1932 & 1980 Olympic village of Lake Placid! Athlete train at the newly renovated Mt Van Hoevenberg, which has a world-class 30-point range and paved rollerski loop access.

NYSEF currently has year-round programming for athletes ranging from young developmental athletes to senior-level athletes racing internationally, as well as a unique partnership with Paul Smith's College Nordic Ski Team where athletes are able to train alongside and be coached by NYSEF’s head biathlon coach, 2018 Olympian Maddie Phaneuf!
