Welcome to the Riverside County Office of Education, where nearly 1,700 dedicated employees support 23 local school districts and our own RCOE operated student programs so that teachers and administrators can help each student succeed.
Last week’s RCOE Instructional Services Ethnic Studies Summit was a great success.
Thank you to our keynote speakers Dr. Joseph Kahne, Dr. Carlos Cortés, and Dr. Aomawa Shields; and our many session presenters. We appreciate the support and attendance of community leaders, City of Riverside - Mayor Patricia Lock Dawson, former CA Assemblymember Jose Medina, former Riverside County Superintendent of Schools Dr. Judy White, and all of the school district administrators and educators who attended this first event to collaborate and work towards the development of high school ethnic studies course curriculum and student learning activities.
RCOE run Court Schools provide a comprehensive instructional program for students in Riverside County juvenile facilities. Youth detained in a County Juvenile Detention or Treatment Center, operated by the Riverside County Probation Department, attend our Western Association of Schools and Colleges (WASC) accredited Court School, in session year-round.
In this video, RCOE 2023 Principal and Counselor of the Year, Arthur Kimball and Jamechia Prater-Moril, speak about the instruction, confidence building, and credit recovery process that helps students remain on track to high school graduation. KESQ News Channel 3 One Class at a Time teacher awardee, RCOE's Edward Martinez, and Transition Coordinator, Louvie Benitez-Taitano, often help students move to the next level, with opportunities for dual enrollment and personal assistance with curriculum they previously struggled with. Learning activities include high-impact classroom strategies and routines, Positive Behavioral Supports and Intervention (PBIS) with restorative practices, inter-disciplinary thematic lessons, and project-based learning.
Together with partners from Probation and Riverside University Health System - Behavioral Health, RCOE Alternative Education staff are working every day to make a positive difference in these students' lives.

COMMENTARY: How one county is overhauling its math culture Instead of buying a new curriculum, Riverside County chose to change hearts and minds.
This week, RCOE Summer College Interns traveled to our State Capitol in Sacramento for a "Legislative Day".
From meeting with Inland Empire officials, like Senator Rosilicie Ochoa Bogh, to witnessing sessions on the Senate floor, these future leaders experienced state and local government representatives in action.
