I love it when old friends send me these ❤️ Outback Steakhouse - National

30/05/2024

2 years ago I googled “how to make an invoice”

Then I sold $250,000 worth of art to Outback Steakhouse.

Our brains love to block us from doing scary s**t.

Our brains will tell us that we don't know enough.

That we're not ready.

That we're not organized enough.

That is your brain doing what it's built to do, to protect you from what it perceives as harm.

I wasn't "ready" by any stretch to work with such a huge client. I had 0 systems in place. I just considered myself a mom with a side hustle. I knew basically nothing about art licensing.

And now here I am 2 years later. My goal was to make 6 figures by painting and here I am.

And now that l've tackled this goal l'm ready to move on to other things.

You are so much more equipped to handle whatever comes your way more than you realize.

There are things that you do not know, take comfort in the fact that you can just google whatever you want and ask questions if you need to.

You DO NOT need to know everything to move forward. The details always figure themselves out.

Lmk if you agree

—————

Working on my LAST TWO commissions this month and then I am moving on to paint my own collection.

I told my contact at Outback today during our last call that I'm going to feel pretty lost without her emails in my inbox.

I have built a really comfortable spot for myself and it feels so good to feel needed, but I know I can't spend more of my career painting more kangaroos and koalas. It's time to move on.

If you're wanting first dibs on whatever I paint next subscribe to my collectors list on my website.

📸 Shout out to the Schaumburg, IL location for sending me a photo with their new installation 😭

This day always reminds me that I am an artist because of my babies.

I don’t think I would have leapt out of the teaching world if it wasn’t for them.

Because the cost of sending them to full time care was basically the same as a teacher’s salary. (Which is a topic for another post and another day.)

But we truly made lemonade out of lemons 🍋. Staying home with you and being a new mom and a new “full-time” artist was the biggest challenge I’ve ever faced but I’m glad we figured it out together.

Thanks for showing me that a really good rock is worth stopping for. That dandelions are amazing. That spending the afternoon crafting is time well spent, and that napkins make the best “shirt & hat” combo.

My little fairies are my greatest inspiration.

Thank you for everything girls. 🧚 🧚

Glad im leaving in the summer because if I left in the fall I would be way more sad. The fall here is just magical.

I’m having a FINAL DROP of my favorite pieces I did during my time here.

There’s a little mix of everything from prints to ringer tees! I think my favorite is the Ricky-Bobby-esque muscle tank I did for concord. Grab it and show those guns off for the summer. 🏁 💪

Please order by May 30th as we are shutting operations down in June for a little vacation 😎

I’ll be sweating my b***y off but eating good food and dancing. I’ll miss you NC 👋 👋

WE’RE MOVING & I’M QUITTING! 📦

——-
TLDR: 📍We’re moving to Lafayette, Louisiana
🐨 I am going to move on from painting for

For those of you that do not know, we’ve been moving all around the past 6 years for ‘s medical training.

At the end of June he will finally graduate what feels like 100th grade and become a full on oncologist.

I can’t even put into words what this journey has meant to both of us and how each and every struggle, wall we’ve busted through and friends we have met shaped us both into the people we are today.

We bit off every single challenge possible in these past 6 years. First time home buyers, becoming parents, the insane hours of residency, packing up and moving 2 times with 2 little kids and then a freaking pandemmy in the middle of everything.

And excuse me for gushing about my amazing husband but I can’t stress enough how much I love and admire him. He truly went though it all and is still the best dad and husband ever.

Being married to you is so easy. You make life so fun, and you’re going to help so many people. Thank you for fully supporting me and my art business through all of this too.

I LOVE YOU!!! ❤️💕

And so…

Because we are finally calling Louisiana home it just feels right to dive into the culture there and paint for absolutely crazy group of people that make Louisiana what it is. I can’t wait to dive into that culture again and contribute art to the vibrant mosaic that is my home.

So long Charlotte, hello Louisiana! 🦞 🎷 💜

_____

Because we are moving and taking a month in the summer to do some much needed celebratory traveling, there won’t be a whole bunch of art content on here. Stay in touch with me via email (subscribe on my website)

You’ll be the first to know when I start diving into all of the Louisiana things 🎨

Leaving the house ammiright? Bags to pack, shoes to get on, a million things to coordinate. But i feel like we do all of those things for those moments that tend to come out of nowhere.

We went out for a play date and in the first 20 minutes all of the usual hectic s**t unfolded:

We finally got to the meetup place and ordered our food and found a table while we waited our friends, one of us had p**ped their underwear and then we found out we went to the wrong place and our friends were 20 minutes across town.

So after a wardrobe change we packed up our stuff, strapped back into the car and headed to the new spot. I questioned if it was even worth it at one point. Because all of the details and possible meltdowns with changing locations just feels incredibly daunting. Like you’d rather just be at home.

We met with our friends and the girls went to the children’s area while I tried to soak up as much adult time as I possibly could.

I wanted to talk about summer travels.
Movies.
Love is blind.
Parenting.
Just that normal adult stuff over a beer.

The girls kept saying “come play with me!” “Come see my collection of things!”

And I fully admit that I was that parent today that said “go play with the other kids! Mommy needs adult time right now!”

And then——-

It grew dark, our friends went home first and then it was just us and time to go.

The three of us held hands, made our way to the car and I heard a teeny tiny voice from down below:

“Mommy, can we watch the fire for a little while?”

It stopped me. The vibe just completely changed.

Because it might seem insane, but I just didn’t think I had the luxury of sitting by fires while im on mom duty.

In my head they think it’s boring. In my head im worried if they’ll get hurt etc.

But no, for that moment we all had a shared desire just to chill and enjoy each others company.

The simple conversations ♥️ 🔥:

“I like fires because of the colors”
“I like to stick sticks in there.”
“Cecily I think you’re the best sister in the world.”

I asked to take a picture and cecily said “make sure you get the sign in there so we remember where we were.”

The moments that come out of nowhere 😭 ♥️

The costumes of Mardi Gras past. Everywhere else it’s just a Tuesday indeed 💜 💛 💚

Does anyone else just completely forget to celebrate things? Im so guilty 🙋🏼‍♀️.

A while back I was commissioned to make a special piece for the president of ! The request was to hide some Easter eggs in one of their favorite designs. It means to much to me that they wanted personal nods in the piece that sits in so many restaurants across Florida.

They sent me a photo of the work installed on wooden planks yesterday and it reminded me to post it and to celebrate- because my usual self just blasted through and went on to the next project.

THEN this reminded of the embellished prints I did for the people who FOUNDED outback— which again I never posted.

It’s wild to me that 4 Florida friends decided to make a quirky Australian themed restaurant. Like that’s something I would talk about with my friends. It seems so fun and silly and quirky. Those ideas made in the fun and laughter are always the best.

Looking back at these is a reminder to celebrate every step. To know that having fun and being goofy is part of our purpose. That we don’t have to be a serious grinding machine in order to be successful.

Let’s laugh and goof our way to where we want to be.

Who’s with me?

About 2 years ago I was standing in the middle of target just pi**ed.

I had no extra income to get anything fun. I was counting every single dime I had and the first thing I did every morning was to check my bank account.

I was working really, really hard but money wasn't flowing. I was chasing and hustling and wanted so much more for myself. I called my friend and spoke my dream into existence to people I looked up to.

"I want to make 100k a vear as an artist"

"I want to be known for what I do."

It felt silly and impossible. I didn't have a plan for how many paintings I had to do and all of those weirdo business plans etc. I just knew I wanted to be able to create and make actual money.

But I was thinking- if I want to make more money I'll have to work so hard. Ill have to get up every day at 5am and drink green juice and really just haul ass and be a every
day.

So I thought, let's make a drastic change. Let's take this little business to the next level. Starting is so hard but expanding and leveling up is even harder. It's the choice right before the breaking point.

I hired a mindset coach and this woman had me crying buckets on every phone call. She had me writing things on paper, setting them on fire and talking to the moon.

But more importantly, she helped me break the conditioning that says hard work= more money.

When you do things that excite you, and maybe even scare you- that's where the money is.

Coincidence? Luck? Manifestation? Prayers answered? Tell me what you think

Honored to be invited to the latest ribbon cutting for the new store opening for Outback Steakhouse - National in Charlotte.

Embellished a Judy print for a local New Orleans blogger aintthatphancy

Excited to see what kind of content she makes with it and how her audience reacts.

Doing a collab with a blogger feels super exciting and almost like a little fun gamble.

If you like New Orleans lifestyle content go giver her a follow because she’s so vibrant and fun.

Lookout for her content after Christmas! She’ll be showing the prints as well as the Judy crew neck sweatshirts!

53 days till Mardi Gras but who’s counting?

💡 THIS IS THE BEST IDEA 💡

It’s almost too simple.

You probably see cool stuff online all year long, then when it comes time to buy a birthday or holiday gift you’re left scratching your head. 🥺

Make yourself your own shop local email address! 📧

EVERY social platform is compatible with email. I email myself stuff constantly but I don’t want to flood my everyday inbox with ads.

Make a separate email: example: [email protected]

Every time you see the perfect gift or something you want email it to yourself!

This works in person too! Instead of awkwardly walking away at a craft show or art festival you can ask the artist to join their email list.

I promise you they will be THRILLED ❤️. Email is the only way we have a direct line of communication when we have an offer or a sale.

Will you try this tip? It’s a tiny step you can make to make shopping local easier.

Remember, artists keep life beautiful and small businesses keep life innovative.

Share to keep this going 💕
