Why do I buy the cheap stuff? Because it works and I don't have to take care of it. I like the cheapo value pack of brushes because if I end up leaving them upside down in the dirty paint water it's not that big of a deal. I like the basics acrylics and the Walmart paint just fine. I just add a little clear gesso or cornstarch if I want to alter the thickness. I shop the bogo canvases at Michael's. I think the most expensive thing I buy is golden acrylics for my metallic gold. Don't let the entry costs keep you from creating. Use what you have. Buy what you know. The "student grade" materials are just fine. They've gotten me here and I'II upgrade when I see fit.Creating doesn't have to be expensive. If you’re new here hi I’m Lindsey and im a part time artist/ part time stay at home mom 👋 I became an artist and a mom and a person that left their hometown pretty much all in the same month. It was one of those “and just like that” moments but a lot less glamorous. My husband matched for internal medicine residency at USF in Tampa Florida and I had to quit my art teaching job, leave my cute apartment and my glittery life for Tampa Florida. AND ALL AT THE SAME TIME we were having our first child too. 🤦🏼‍♀️ I started applying for jobs and even got an offer in Tampa, but I really wanted to stay home with my baby and enjoy those first years. I had no idea how we were going to make this work. I just knew it was something I wanted to try. Through social media jobs, pet portrait slinging and a lot of soul searching I’ve found myself here; painting for @outback and getting to stay home with my babies. Life is so crazy. I wouldn’t be here unless those grenades weren’t thrown into my life. The chips just fell right where they were supposed to. Drop a 💣 if you’re thankful for life grenades

Some people on tik tok suggested Carol Baskin 😆 😆 I love to give a nod to the area in some type of way so it’s really special to that specific location. 👇 I’d love to hear your suggestions!!

The most important part of taking commissions is NOT doing exactly what the client wants! You heard dat. I relate this to getting your hair done. A great hair stylist will give you their professional insight on what the final product is going to end up looking like, and guides you to the cut and color thats perfect for you specifically. I always give my creative feedback and alternative ideas to create something we both end up loving! This pretty much circles back to the golden rule of trust your professionals. Because we’re currently living in Charlotte, NC I got to paint directly on the wood for the new Outback Steakhouse - National in Steele Creek! They shipped an entire wall to my house 😆. It was HUGE !! We had to find a baby gate to block it off from the kids so they didn’t get smushed!! I painted a koala with a crown on it as Charlotte is the “Queen City” Today I get to see it installed AND im going to be interviewed by The Charlotte Observer !!
