Northland Shooters Supply
Northland Shooters Supply (NSS) has been dedicated to providing top quality shooting components since the 1990’s.
We have everything from match grade barrels, actions, upgraded components, and the tools you will need to complete your rifle build.
Scott W. of Colorado sent us some info on his 6 Dasher shouldered prefit build using a Criterion Barrels Inc. barrel and Zermatt Arms Origin action purchased from Northland Shooters Supply.
Here are the specs on his build:
- 26” Criterion- shouldered prefit- MTU contour- 6 Dasher- 7.5 twist with muzzle thread
- Zermatt Arms Origin action
- NSS knurled thread protector
- McMillan A-5 stock
- Hawkins bottom metal
- MDT BR magazine
Here is what Scott had to say about his build:
"I shot my Origin MTU Criterion 6 Dasher barrel from you guys in a 600 yard Benchrest match two weeks ago and it kicked ass. I attached some pictures of the targets, this was shot in the Tactical Class in a Western Colorado Freedom Benchrest 600 yard Match!
The load I used for the Dasher was 31.8 grains of Shooters World Precision powder and a 105 Berger VLD jammed 10 thousands into the lands. It’s a medium load with no pressure and it’s one of my favorite loads for this caliber.
Anyway, that shouldered Origin Dasher barrel just shoots, I have several Dasher barrels in Bartlien and Brux and this Criterion barrel shoots just as good or better than they do. I put a Criterion barrel on my AR-15 Match rifle and it took my son and I both to High Master in NRA Tactical Rifle Class, so Criterion barrels are really fantastic barrels. Here is a picture of the rifle, Zermatt Origin action, Jewel trigger, McMillian A-5 stock and Hawkins magwell with a MDT 6Br mag that feeds like butter and of course the Criterion Dasher barrel."
Robert F. of Alabama sent us some photos of his 6mm Dasher build using a Shilen Rifles Inc. barrel purchased from Northland Shooters Supply and his target from his F-Class match win!

- Vortex 15-60x52 Golden Eagle scope
Here is what Robert had to say about his build:
"I am using Berger 105 Hybrids & Varget powder. I have it shooting .250" 5 shot groups at 100yds.
I shot an F-Class match last week and got a "clean"! 19x. Won the match by 1 point. We use two targets at our club, 15rds per target. My first clean!
This is my 3rd F Class rifle built with Northland parts. They all shoot fantastic."
Congratulations Robert on the win!!!!
David L. of Indiana sent us some info on his recent 243 Win build using a Criterion barrel he purchased from Northland Shooters Supply.
Here are some of the components David used on his build:
- 22” Criterion small shank Savage barrel- Varmint contour- 9 twist with muzzle thread

- NSS squared and trued barrel nut

Here is what David had to say about his build:
"Started with a bone stock Savage 110 Hunter in 243 Wi******er. Stripped it down to just the action. Installed a new Rifle Basix trigger. Ordered a custom Criterion 243 Win, 1-9 twist with Savage Varmint profile. New recoil lug and wrenches and MDT mag. Put the whole package into an MDT ORYX chassis with an MDT vertical Elite grip and finished with a Griffin Sportsman Ultralight 300 suppressor. I ran many different ammo types, factory, custom, different bullets. Factory Hornady Superformance Varmint 58 gr Vmax was incredible. I’m super impressed with the results. It was built to be a groundhog and coyote killer. So I think it will work out nicely. Thank you NSS! 💪🏼"
Ken B. of California sent us info on his 6.5 Creedmoor hunting build using a Shilen barrel and Zermatt Arms Origin.

I had these bedded in a Minelli thumbhole laminated stock. Topped with a Zeiss Conquest scope. She shot tight right out the gate with factory ammo. I haven't fired any handloads yet. I just received an assortment of Hammer bullets to work loads up with. I’m very happy with my build!"

It has a Timney Calvin Elite Competition trigger and Area 419 hellfire brake on it. I am using a Harris bipod that mounts to a M-LOK rail I added from MDT. MDT 20 MOA base holds the Leupold Mark 5 3.5-18x44 with Seekins Precision rings. I repainted the stock with Brownell’s Aluma Hyde grey paint to make it look better. I use 107 Sierra MatchKing bullets loaded 0.008” off the lands, 38.5 grains of H4350 powder in Peterson Brass with CCI 200 primers. The target is a 5 shot group I shot during load development."
Scott of Virginia sent us some photos of his recent 223 Re*****on Match build using a Criterion Barrels Inc. barrel. Here are some of the specs on his build:
- 26” Criterion barrel- Stainless match- Bull contour- 223 Rem Match- Small shank Savage- 7 twist
- NSS squared and trued barrel nut
- Forster headspace gauges
Here is what Scott had to say about his build:
"Thought you might like a few photos of my Savage Axis build. I built this one for a heavy target rifle to shoot from a bench and my tripod because I found I needed a heavier rifle because of my Parkinsons' disease which causes my right arm and hand to shake. The heavier rifle helps mitigate the shaking so I can have fun at the range. That was also the reason I made the oversized bolt handle.
Here are the details about my build.
- Action Savage Axis
- Chassis MDT Oryx with a custom KG Gunkote I did myself. I made the stencils from a picture I took of an oak tree.
- Barrel is a Criterion 26" 223 Rem Match from Northland Shooters Supply
- Headspace set with Forster gauges from Northland Shooters Supply
- Northland Shooters Supply barrel nut
- Primary Arms optics
- Vortex heavy rings
- MDT Premier vertical grip
- MCARBO trigger kit
- I machined the thumb grip, bag rider on my milling machine and the oversized bolt handle on my lathe
- UUQ bipod
The rifle will shoot five shots in one hole with my handloads."
Earl M. of Idaho sent us some photos and info on his recent 6 ARC build using a Shilen Rifles Inc. barrel and Zermatt Arms TL3 action. The target shows the first shots out of the barrel with shots marked #1 and #2 as his sighters and 6 shots to follow.
Here are some of the components Earl used on his build:
- 26” Shilen- Stainless Select Match- Small Shank Savage- Bull Contour- 6 ARC- 7.5 Ratchet Twist with Muzzle Thread
- Zermatt Arms TL3 action- Right Bolt/Right Port- Competition bolt k**b- 20 MOA rail
- NSS Squared and Trued Barrel Nut
Here is what Earl had to say about his build:
“Got the 6 ARC barrel from UPS last night so screwed it into the Zermatt Arms TL3 I got from you earlier with the barrel nut. Took it to the range this AM in the rain to just zero the scope. Took only 2 shots to zero at 100 yards and shot a 6 shot group so these are the very first shots through this new rifle using factory Hornady 105 BTHP ammo. I found out at the range that I only brought 8 rounds so luckily getting zero went easy. I think I did one .1 mil click left on the windage after shot #2. I was pleasantly surprised. Got to play with some reloads next.”

Gregory W. of Wisconsin sent us some photos and info on his Shilen 20 Practical.
Here are the components he purchased from Northland Shooters Supply for his build:
- 26” Shilen stainless select match- large shank Savage- Bull contour- 20 Practical- 10 twist
- Savage Arms Molel 12 right bolt/ right port single shot target action
Here is what Gregory had to say about his build:
"Just built this 20 Practical using a Savage Target Action, 26" Shilen Select Match Bull barrel with a 1:10 twist, Nikon 6-24 scope. With 20 rounds shot out of the barrel, it loves 40 grain Hornady V-Max's @ 3670 feet per second.
After 40 rounds, I cleaned the barrel with 3 patches and Hoppe's Copper Solvent, patches had no copper on them, and the barrel was brilliant inside. The new Garmin chronograph measured these velocities and never missed a shot. I think the faster twist stabilizes even better, as none of my groups ever had a flyer, and they had low ES's (extreme spreads)."
Todd L. of Virginia sent us some photos and info on his 6.5 x 284 Norma build he set up for his new hunting rifle using a Criterion barrel purchased from Northland Shooters Supply.
Here are some of the items he purchased from NSS for his build:
- 26” Criterion heavy sporter contour- small shank Savage- 6.5 x 284 Norma- 8 twist
- NSS precision ground recoil lug
- NSS squared and trued barrel nut
- NSS action wrench
- NSS 11” barrel nut wrench
- PT&G go and no go gauges
- Rifle Basix Sav-2 trigger
Here is what Todd had to say about his build:
"Figured I'd share my results with your products. I purchased the barrel and tools from you last year sometime around October for a Savage 110 build. I put this in a Bell & Carlson aluminum bedded stock with a Hawke 4-20 x 50 Frontier scope. This gun shoots phenomenal. I'm not a paper shooter beyond rifle sight in. I'm a hunter & couldn't be happier with this build. For anyone on the fence about trying to build your own, I say go for it.
I am absolutely not a gunsmith & if I can turn a $175.00 pawn shop Savage 110 into a tack driving, deer killing machine, so can you. The 130 Berger bullets are absolutely wicked on whitetails. A 100% satisfied customer.
The top picture is at 400yds. 2nd picture is at 600yds. Sorry I don't have any paper targets pics, just not my thing."
Chris S. of Missouri sent us some photos and info on his new 204 R***r Match build using a barrel he purchased from Northland Shooters Supply (NSS). The groups he sent are the first shots out of the barrel with no load development.
Here are some of the items Chris used on his build:
- 26”- Criterion- 204 R***r Match- Small shank Savage bull contour- 11 twist
- NSS Precision ground recoil lug
- NSS Squared and trued barrel nut
- Rifle Basix Trigger
Here is what Chris had to say about his build:
"I have bought 10 or more barrels from you all and they all perform great, but this might be my favorite so far. I put the rifle together, cleaned it, and shot these two groups with 2 different loads I already had loaded from the previous barrel. The first picture is the first 6 shots from the rifle. The very bottom was the first shot with the gun bore sighted. The group is with 32 grain Vmax, Benchmark powder and CCI 400 primers. The second picture is a group with 32 grain Nosler Combined Technology bullets, XBR8208 powder and CCI 400. The flier was likely the guy running it. I think it’s going to be a shooter. Thanks"

"I didn’t have a chronograph or modified case so I just guessed on charges and seating depth (2.842” COAL) but this barrel is a shooter! Yesterday at 300-yards, it shot .250”-.330” MOA all the way from 41.4-41.8 grains of H4350 powder through the first 20 shots on the first day of load development even with a little wind.
Load was:
- Lapua 6.5 CM small rifle primer brass necked down
- Hodgdon Powder H4350, tested 36.0 - 42.5 g w/o any pressure (10-20 degrees F, 4,200’ elevation)
- Berger Bullets 135 grain Long-Range Hybrid Target bullet
- CCI 450 small rifle primers
- 2.842” raw length (no modified case yet)
At 300 yards: 41.4, 41.5, 41.6, 41.7, 41.8 grains of powder all shot roughly .33 MOA or better. With 41.5 grains of powder being right at .2502” MOA from shots #26-50 on the barrel. My chronograph is getting sent back for warranty replacement so I don’t have ES/S-D or mv but should have it back by next week and I’ll send that as well."
Bill S. of Indiana sent us some photos and info on his 6BR Norma build using a Shilen Rifles, Inc. barrel purchased from NSS.
Here are some of the components Bill used on his build:
- 28”- Shilen stainless select match- small shank Savage- 6BR Norma- 8 twist
- Zermatt Arms- TL3 Right bolt/Right port single shot
- TriggerTech Diamond
- NSS squared and trued barrel nut
- NSS Action Wrench
Here is what Bill had to say about his build:
"I'm having a blast with my new 6BR rifle and wanted to share the following testimonial with you. Several images are also attached.
In July 2022, I joined a local 300 yard F-Class league and got completely hooked on competitive shooting. During the past offseason, I put together a new F-Open rifle using the following components purchased from NSS;
• Zermatt Arms Bighorn TL3 single shot action
• Trigger Tech Diamond trigger
• Shilen Match Select barrel - 6BR Norma / 28" Bull Contour / 1:8 twist
• NSS Barrel Nut
• NSS Action wrench
• Manson headspace gauges
The barreled action is mounted in a McMillan Kestros stock and topped with a Sightron SV ED 10-50x60 scope mounted in Leupold rings.
So far in the 2023 season with the new rifle, my average score has increased by 4 points and my average X count has increased by 6. Just this past week, I also shot my first perfect score with a 400-29X. The rifle has performed well in several 600 yd mid-range matches as well.
I owe much of this success to the great products, excellent advice and prompt service provided by Northland Shooters Supply. When the need arises, I will continue to call NSS for all of my precision shooting needs."

Shilen offers 2 different 6mm Creedmoor chambers. 6mm Creedmoor (.109”FB) and 6mm Creedmoor VLD(SAAMI .183” FB). Make sure you choose the correct chamber for your needs.
Here is a little info on both to help you decide what will work best for you.
- 6mm Creedmoor (.109” FB) is the original 6mm Creedmoor chamber we used before it became a SAAMI chamber. It has a .109” freebore and a .275” neck diameter. This chamber works very well for the 105 grain or lighter bullets. You will not be able to run factory ammo out of this chamber.
- 6mm Creedmoor VLD is the SAAMI chamber. The only change is that this uses a .275” neck diameter (still a no turn neck) instead of the SAAMI .277” neck. This chamber has a .183” freebore. If you are going to run any factory ammo, you will need to use this chamber. This chamber also works very well with the heavier 108-115 grain bullets.
- One other option is Shilen will throat to your dummy rounds to give you the exact freebore that you want. This is a great option if the .109” freebore is a little too short and the .183” is a little too long. We will walk you through how to do this option if you decide to go this way. It is very easy.
Jason R. of Texas sent us some info on his 6mm Creedmoor VLD build using a Shilen Rifles Inc. barrel purchased from NSS.
Here are the components Jason used on his build:
- 26”- Shilen stainless select match varmint contour- small shank Savage- 7 twist with muzzle thread
- NSS precision ground recoil lug
- NSS squared and trued barrel nut
- Forster Products headspace gauges
Here is what Jason had to say:
"Gotta brag on this 6 Creedmoor. 26" Shilen 7" twist that I got from you on a Savage short action in a Boyd's classic stock. Factory AccuTrigger adjusted to 15oz. Pillar bedded and I bedded the action real good. It's a good fit now.
This target is 6 shots. Obviously, I pulled one and dropped it a quarter of an inch so I shot an extra to make up for that. That's 5 shots in the top hole. This thing will shoot! It's got the VLD chamber and it absolutely loves the 105gr Berger Target VLDs with 46.3 grains of H4831 powder. The EC Tuner brake on the end to finish it off.
Thanks for selling such good barrels. I'm in love with this rifle!"

Are you needing a heavier barrel for competition or varmint hunting?
On Monday, we shared information about our customer Seth who used a bull barrel contour for his PRS build.
The bull barrel is a straight taper. At 28” the bull barrel measures 1” in diameter. A prefit Savage 28” bull weighs approximately 6 pounds. A shouldered prefit at 28” weighs about 7 lbs. 8 oz. Below are the inch-by-inch muzzle diameter measurements on the prefit Savage barrels and the Shouldered prefit barrels.
We keep bull barrels on the shelf in most chambers.
Savage prefit muzzle diameters
• 20" = 1.017”
• 22" = 1.013”
• 24" = 1.009”
• 26" = 1.004”
• 28" = 1.000”
• 30" = 0.996
Shouldered Prefit muzzle diameters
• 20" = 1.077"
• 22" = 1.058"
• 24" = 1.038"

Seth S. of Michigan sent us some photos and info on his 6.5 Creedmoor RemAge build using a Criterion Barrels Inc. barrel purchased from Northland Shooters Supply.
Here are the specs on his order:
- 28” Criterion- Rem/Age- bull contour- 6.5 Creedmoor- 8 twist
- NSS precision ground recoil lug
- NSS squared and trued barrel nut
- NSS action wrench
- NSS taper loc
- Bell And Carlson M40 stock
Here is what Seth had to say about his build.
"This RemAge Criterion 6.5 Creedmoor is looking good already too. I actually shot a .160” 5 shot group last night with H4350 and 140 Hornady ELDM’s. I loaded 10 more up of that load that shot the .160” 5 shot group and shot 5 of them at a 100 and it backed it up with a .280” then I went to 600 and shot a 5 shot group and it measured 3.19” so real close to 1/2 moa. Then Sunday I shot 20 for score and it did a 194, my son shot a 198 with his Criterion barrel. He was actually high score of the day, conditions weren’t the best."
