On February 15, the United States recognizes and remembers the sinking of the battleship U.S.S. Maine. In February 1898, the U.S.S. Maines sank after a mysterious explosion in Havana Harbor in Cuba. There were a total of 355 crew members on board, and of those crew members, 266 died in the tragedy. Because of the incident, there was a lot of political uproar and a naval blockade. Eventually the sinking of the U.S.S. Maine led to a war with Spain, who was believed to be behind the sinking of the ship. However, there has never been definitive proof as to what caused the explosion, even to this day. There are several memorial sites that are dedicated to the victims; one in Maine, one in New York City, one in Arlington National Cemetery, and one in Havana, Cuba. #USMarines #USNavy #TodayInHistory #CalmSeaPsyc #RememberTheMaine Source: https://nationaltoday.com/remember-the-maine-day/

On February 4th, the country celebrates the birthday of the United States Organization, or USO, for short. The USO was formed in 1941, with the mission to help maintain mental health with troops overseas. The purpose was to provide military members with care packages, live entertaining, and helping the members connect with their family and friends while serving overseas. World War II military members were the first to experience the USO and since then, almost 5 million members have impacted from the work the USO does. Initially, it was believed the USO served its purpose during WWII and was briefly disbanded. The organization was reformed when the country faced other wars, such as Korea and Vietnam. As the organization has grown over the years, services more recently provided to members in addition to what was previously offered includes financial assistance, educational aid, and emergency contact. #USO #USOBirthday #SupportOurTroops #Military #UnitedServicesOrganizations #TraumaTrained #EMDR #CBT #PTSD #Trooper #StatePolice #FirstResponder #LEO #Veterans #CalmseasPsyc #Police #FireFighter #MilitaryFamilies #FirstResponderFamilies #LEOFamilies Sources: https://nationaltoday.com/uso-day/
