Are you wondering how to make writing skills interactive and fun? Here is an idea. Write notes back and forth to your child each day. I did this with my daughter and it’s such a precious keepsake now! You also have a visual that shows progress.

Great job guys! Didn’t everyone do a fantastic job? Social / life skills class #2! MurielandJeff Kanaday focused on maintaining a topic, good eye contact and ending a conversation. Esther Gamble taught the paint class! Thank you!

Lively Learning class got off to a great start yesterday as well! Look at these smiles! They worked on dramatic play, writing and math. The littles got to do this through play and sensory objects. The older boys had fun writing and drawing in shaving cream and using inflatable dice. Wish we had more pictures to show all the activities but we were super busy having fun! See you next week!

Have you wondered what it means when we say we integrate multi-sensory methods in our intervention sessions? We use activities that stimulate two or more senses simultaneously. This increases learning and helps to retrain the way the brain processes. Our students enjoy this so much! Pictured below are just a couple of examples of auditory, touch, movement and visual in use:

Yesterday, we had our 1st of 8 summer “Doers of Tomorrow” classes. It started off with a bang and I think fun was had by all! Conversation and laughter was flowing under the guidance of MurielandJeff Kanaday!

If you enter the office or give us a call, you are likely to be greeted by one of these smiling faces. These three ladies are the true MVP’s of Montgomery Speech! They do so much work behind the scenes and literally keep us all on track.
Carole Belcher enjoys reading, coloring, and watching her kids play sports. Noël Montgomery enjoys cooking, playing the piano, and spending time with her friends and family. Esther Gamble enjoys art, crafting, and spending time with her family, friends and pets. (Side note, she is engaged to my son Will Montgomery and they will be married this August!) Thank you ladies! We would be lost without you.

Over the past few days, we have highlighted our hard working SLP’s and their many talents. We have received so many encouraging comments on each post. Thank you for that! I also wanted to introduce myself and my family for those who may be newer in the area. I was fortunate to be able to start this speech practice in Cullman almost 24 years ago. This would not have been possible without the support of my family, these amazing therapists, the parents of our precious clients, and our community. So again, another heart felt thank you is due! We appreciate you so much!

In addition to being the owner, I am also a speech / language pathologist with my Master’s degree. I have experience with pediatrics (school, early intervention and private) and adults (hospital, home health, hospice, mental health, and private). I am in the process of receiving certification for Gestalt Language Processing. I am also trained to treat and administer testing to diagnosis dyslexia.

Most importantly, I’m mother to these 4 children. Going left to right: Samuel (17, senior in high school), myself, Alysha Montgomery, Noël (18, freshman at Wallace), Keegan (13), Will (19, training program in Tuscaloosa to preach) and my husband Wes (office administrator).

Thank you, thank you, thank you! We look forward to serving you for many more years to come.

We are so excited to have Morgan Haynes with us for the summer! She has her bachelor’s degree in speech / language pathology and plans to attend the University of Montevallo this fall to obtain a Master’s degree.

Morgan became interested in speech therapy because her older brother is autistic. She grew up accompanying her mother to his speech therapy sessions. She decided this was her career path during her senior year of high school!

Morgan’s hobbies include reading, hiking, and playing piano. Welcome Morgan!

Sophie Slaten joined us in January of this year. She has 4 years of experience as a speech / language pathologist. Sophie is receiving additional training in the process of gestalt. We are looking forward to working with her for many more years! If you haven’t met her yet, just wait, you are in for a treat! Thank you Sophie!

Tammie Hudson Dunkling has 35 years of experience in education! She attended the University of Montevallo and received a Masters from UAB. Tammie has worked as a speech / language pathologist with individuals to improve articulation, language, fluency, and auditory processing skills. I didn’t want May to end without discussing that this month is “better speech and hearing month”. We try to raise more awareness regarding all types of communication and the role that SLP’s play. We love our community and want to help however we are able! I also wanted to highlight each of our speech language pathologist. Starting with…

MurielandJeff Kanaday! Muriel has a master’s degree in speech language pathology and has 23 years of experience. Muriel has received auditory verbal training and is working on additional training in Gestalt Language Processing. She and Jeff have been married for 25 years. They have a special needs son who holds all of our hearts.

“Happy Valentine’s Day, Mouse!” Plus a couple of pics with my girl ❤️ I’m a huge fan of pairing books with speech / language goals. It’s even better when it’s a holiday! We worked on sequencing, making inferences, labeling, answering questions, following directions, spatial concepts and increasing utterance length just to name a few!
