This is a dark painting but it is so true when we let the demons attack and bottle them up

Demon Eats the Ambulance Driver
This is probably the darkest and most ominous image I've created. I've been debating for days if I should even share it. You can interpret it as you like but it was made with purpose.

Popeyes adventure
So I ran a shift on The Boo Boo Bus last night and as usual it was really interesting start to finish. I marked in service and since my partner thought we were low on fuel, we went to the pumps. As soon as we cleared and I was starting to take a short cut back to our station. We got toned out on a first for me. A psych patient who had climbed a tree. I had planned to stage figuring that this was a scene that just was weird but as we started to pull in we were told it was a 12 year old. I was trying to picture this whole thing and how a 12 year old scampered up a tree and how far up he could be. We arrived to find the counselor standing around this very large tree. I walked up and found instead of one kid that 3 kids where about 20 feet up in the tree. We called for a truck company and tried to talk these kids out of the tree. So the police, the truck company and the battalion chief arrive and the captain of the truck informs me that we can't use the aerial because the tree has to many branches. I have to admit I did ask the cop for his tazer figuring that was the quickest way to get them down. (Hangs head in shame)So the captain hops up in to the tree and start to order these kids down, then asks them to. I finally being over the whole scene and as only a cranky parent can climbed in to the tree and started to scale this damn tree, about 20 feet up I reach the first kid who swings at me, grabbed her hand and made her sit down on the branch. This girl (16 years old) had already threatened to kick me in the face so I was over it but as I am handing her off to the captain I start to get pelted from above with acorns, branches, and descriptive expletives. By this time all I could do is laugh because my partner, the cops, and the battalion chief are all describing all this on the radio. I got a hold of the 14 year old and safely got her passed off. So all that was left was the 12 year old 30 ft up in this tree I climb up and look at him and said " how does it feel to have an old man scamper up into this tree as high as you did. He looks at me and starts laughing and responds " Honestly it's weird" so I had him climb down using me for hand and feet holds. So finally it was my turn and I start climbing down, those nice firefighters set up a hand ladder for me. I threatened anyone with video of this rescue about posting said video. I think the kids are probably less sore than I, but by god I still can climb a tree. Popeye

Eating our young
After nearly 30 years in EMS I am going to make a statement that I never thought I'd make. We need to been better mentors. We have made it a practice to have our new providers earn their way into the brother/sisterhood we are failing to impart the most important skills of all empathy, compassion, and Survival. Unfortunately the longer one spends in this calling the more knowledge we have to pass on but the less of those three qualities we expect from our new people. How many times have you asked someone why they want to do this and they say they want to help people. What was your response? I'll give a bit of time to consider your answer cause I know mine at times has been jaded and negative.

Whats the worse call you have ever had?...
I get that question almost daily and honestly i have never had the best answer for that question. I have nearly 30 years in and yet you would think that I would have a better answer than sheepishly diverting the question.
What do say to a question like that other than I am sorry Mr/Ms. J Q Public but you have no idea what we do out there and the toll that we pay to help you in the darkest night or that blizzard that you stay home in. Every call of the 50,000 or so that I have responded on is a worst call for someone because no one call us when they are happy and are at their best. But that answer is so unsatisfying for the public because there is no blood or destruction. So what would you like me to tell you about, Would you like me to tell you about the 3 month old baby who died of SIDS at his babysitter my first call of this career or the second call with the 17 year old that hung himself because young love failed him. The plane crash in my first month that eviscerated the pilot and broke every bone in the co-pilot. No thats too gory and you want pg rated calls that dont involve children. The problem is that I have dealt with children and death all my career from the 15 year old that jumped to his death from 15 stories to the high school kids with bullet wounds, I have worked on kids tragically killed in car accidents, hayrides and waterbeds. I have pronounced children dead in their cribs and laying in front of the TV with the Sunday morning pastors extolling God while grandma sat downstairs telling my partner that she had starved this beautiful young life to death because God had spoken to her and told her to.I have responded to calls where the complaint was a cut finger and finding the kids and the mother dead due to bludgeing and stabbing
or the fire that had a family in the basement r***d bludgened and stabbed but the final insult to their death was lighting them on fire. Kids are out its to sad? Try going home and looking at your children and the only thing that you want is to bubble wrap them and never let them out the door. Having anxiety for every second they are not in your sight and knowing every possible scenario that could happen. Holding them tight when they get home thanking God that nothing happened to them. But Ok lets talk about that worst call again and since kids are out lets talk about vibrant adults that have been terrible calls to satisfy your morbid curiosity. I guess we could talk about the 20s year old could that rolled their car but unfortunately forgot to fasten their seatbelts and were ejected but since they were ejected a significant distance away from the car weren't found on our first trip to the on ramp but were found on the second trip and had died evidently crawling towards help but froze to death. No? How about the pregnant lady who rolled her car on the way to work and because she was uncomfortable didnt wear her seatbelt and rolled her car and was ejected and the ironically had her car land on her. We thought we might save the child. You stand there watching the drama unfold and see a perfect baby born dead because the accident ruptured the uterus or the 20 year old girl who was going through a horrible break up and spanked her 3 year old but felt so guilty she threw herself off her dresser with a scarf tied to the rafters and broke her neck. I have run calls where the vehicle has ended up on top of people and their feet were kicking as we arrived but stopped right after. The point is I wanna thank you for the the trip into my nightmares and a fraction of the worst calls Ive been on. It seems like an innocuous question but for a lot of us its a trip through the nightmares we live with daily. It affects our parenting and our relationships because we become over protective and worried about our wive and husbands. We destroy our souls for what we think is a calling and we hold the hand of a dying patient we witness their last moments its take a piece of us never to be returned. We have to find away to save our own because NO ONE else can save us...Popeye
Hi all
I want to thank you all from the bottom of my heart for your love and support for my family and myself. Although I am out of the hospital and rehabbing at home the recovery will be a long and sometimes painful, your prayers and urging has made it easier. I also have decided as part of my recovery to put to a presentation about my experiences and prevention so that I may help others through their crisis. So keep coming back I need your opinions on this. I Love you all and once again thank you!!! Popeye

Please help Popeye!!!!! It's been a month and the help has stopped coming in. We were hoping for a start of 5,000 and have almost reached $1000. Please help, 1 1/2 weeks in ICU and 3 weeks on general surgery and now in psych.insurance isn't going to pay it all.
For anyone who doesn't know Popeye is a 25+ yr Paramedic, who suffers from PTSD. A month ago he had some major set backs. He has spent the last month the hospital. A week and a half in ICU 2 1/2 weeks on general trauma surgery. He has had 4 surgeries and still has at least a week to go before discharge. Please help with some of his hospital bills.

****MAYDAY****
I don't know how to write this post. This is one of the hardest things I've had to do in life, by far.
Popeye, our amazing fatherly admin, attempted to kill himself Sunday evening.
Pops has PTSD, depression, cancer, and has lost several of his own friends to su***de recently.
We knew Pops was going through a rough time recently. He told us how hard things had become, and we did everything to try and help him through it. We even called his local friends and Police department on Friday, due to some messages alluding that he may harm himself.
He was found safe with friends. He seemed optimistic about the next week. He assured us he was safe and would be OK.
But by Sunday, his pain was too great to bear. He left no warnings for us. He ended his pain the only way he felt was left.
Pops shot himself with a handgun. He was taken to a trauma center. He is currently in critical condition, but is stable at the time. He is intubated, on a vent, and sedated. He's had 3 surgeries since Sunday. He's on 40 mcg of Levophed. He's thrown several clots, and may have had a NONSTEMI. He is currently in renal failure and needs dialysis.
Pops is an amazing human being. He loves his family so very much. He is an amazing Paramedic. He has touched thousands of lives through his chosen profession. And right now - he needs us.
Please pray for Popeye and his family. Please.
-TB3
We will be posting later for needed fundraising for Pops and his family.
Thank you all, for everything you do.
Update: Pops shot himself in the left chest. He missed the heart and great vessels. The bullet exited out of his back. Does not appear to be any spine involvement. They had to remove his left lung. He may have had a NONSTEMI. They are watching his troponins. He's on dialysis due to renal failure now. He's had several blood transfusions. He's breathing over the vent. He's down to 20mcg of Levophed now.

Over the last three weeks 2 people that I personally and professionally respect and were brother and sister from the department I worked at have taken their own lives... this doesn't even count the countless other public safety professionals dying at an alarming rate and the 21 military members that die daily. We must do better in helping to keep each other alive. We save the public it's time to save another.... the devils whispers get louder everyday... it's time to silence those whispers... Popeye
