I admit defeat, any Honda CBR 600 experts out there---2006 model, just did a service--plugs, oil and filter, started fine--until i put the bodywork back on , managed to dislodge an ecu connector, found and corrected that and it still was starting, put bodywork back again and --you guessed it--no start. Pulled tank cover off, no fuel pump prime. Tested BAS, fuel pump relay--which I can ground and prime pump, but no spark. Tested kill switch relay and all the fuses--all good. And no codes but FI light it lit, even swapped all the relays with no change. Neutral light on, tested kickstand switch. Pulled ecu connectors and looked for pins not seated, ohmed out wire from ecu to the fuel pump relay. So,WTF happened????

Congratulations are in order and I am having a celebratory beer---I have been trying to resurrect a Honda NQ 50 Spree scooter. Bought dirt cheap, hoping for a decent pit bike. Had poor compression and something had been through the cylinder and it was nicely scored. Found an OEM piston/rings and had the cylinder bored 25 over. Now had good compression and spark, would only try and start then die. New carb did not help. Timing verified, parts swapped back and forth with a running Spree--still nada---then I found a set of Hi Perf carbon fiber reed valves---SUCCESS!!! It is a runner--YAY!!!πŸ˜‰πŸ˜œ

I am reminded why I like working on my Suzukis--kid I know brought me his 2007 Honda CBR 600 RR---just a simple service,right--air filter, spark plugs---holy s**t, takes at least an hour to get to just look where the plugs are. I can see 1 and 4 --no idea if I can actually remove them. Gas tank not hinged, remove half the fairings to get the tank cover off, airbox is in several layers----Honda Engineering . Compared to a Busa--hinged fuel tank, airbox removal a snap, and you can actually see the spark plug locations--

My first time pulling the motor on Gen 2, quite a bit more of a pain in the ass than a Gen 1. Came in stuck in fifth, and when we opened it up third/fourth gear set was cooked and the shift fork was trash--thought these Gen trans were better??πŸ˜‰

The "Dirtbike" got bottle fed--mind you it was a "baby" bottle but she took it well!

Gen 1 Hayabusa running M5, what compression ratio are you running?

06/28/2024

Hayabusa Gen 1 guys---1441 with all the goodies, head work, cams, pistons---currently running 110K VP--which of the oxygenated fuels would show good gains---

Just saw some folks talking about 24 volt starting on a Busa, so went and looked, saw they wired it wrong, had second battery incorrect, needs the positive going to the starter. Now can't find the silly post.😜

Just back from the June El Mirage meeting---we had a blast! Dave Damon, my son James and I headed down. I had duty so we only took two bikes---Dave's naked Busa and our other Busa Dave has named the Dirt Bike for James. Weather was warm---91 by noon and DA went through the roof---5500 feet by noon, so definitely affected any NA vehicles. Dave's best run was 188, almost 10 MPH off his May run. James was licensing up still and got done up to the B license. So next meet he can cane it!
Pat Womack made a pass and the bike seemed to not make boost---even though earlier in the week it was excellent on the dyno----we will need to look at that! Jim Hoogerhyde double dipped---he ran 224 in his electric liner for a record, then hopped on his bike and ran 210 for another record!
It was great to see everyone---Jim and Deborah Kerr(who gave us all heart palpitations) Jim and Leslie Hoogerhyde, Pat Womack and his lovely daughter---
I spent time keeping course watch across from the finish line tower and witnessed a big spin and tumble for the next to last car---heard the driver was OK---

Damn it--third Gen 1 Busa with a Power Commander 5 Pti, and the third PC5 that went to s**t---spent several hours trying to figure out why the dang bike was fine and would idle great at 13.2, next start it would be 10.4, next time it would be 17.1---thought a sensor was glitchy, changed the stock IAP, and then the 3 bar , nothing changed except bike ran worse than ever. Unplugged the PC and bike ran fine. I had a new PC-6 Pti and tossed it on and VOILA---ran proper and we finished tuning. What total junk!!!

Another instance of the generosity of the land speed community, Dean Sabitenelli,(excuse my lousy spelling) had a fuel pump issue and another friend, had just recorded on his big Triumph and Dustin gave his fuel pump to Dean so he could run tomorrow. Gotta love our community 😁.

Introducing the newest addition to the Black Art Racing fleet---1999 Suzuki GSXR 600 SRAD. 750 bottom end with custom Wossner pistons to make it a 620cc, Marine Crank finished crankshaft, APE head and main studs, cam tensioner, and adjustable cam gears, 750 intake cams on both sides.
Hayabusa front forks and fairing stay with a Gen 2 dash. Link Monsoon ecu with custom harness thanks to Jesse Brown. Hayabusa throttle bodies and turbo plenum(they fit an SRAD head perfectly!), Pulsar turbo with custom exhaust by Dominic in Auburn--a fellow SDRC mate, Hayabusa rear tail section, grafted on by good friend,Jim Hoogerhyde. Hayabusa rear swingarm--another straight bolt on for this bike.

Bike is behaving now, max 10 lbs boost--E-85, no intercooler, built motor---what is max boost safely for drags and such?

04/22/2024

Gen 1 Busa turbo on dyno, lightest spring I have, supposed to be a 5 lb spring and it still goes above 10 at less than 40% throttle, pulled the spring and no boost that way--suggestions?

04/17/2024

Gen 1 Hayabusa with RC injectors, what are you folks using for the bottom o-ring as a stocker does not want to go?

04/15/2024

Anyone have a set a pair of adjustable pushrods for a Buell/Sportster I can borrow to get the proper length pushrods for Terry's old LSR Buell I am trying to resurrect---I can already tell the stockers I have are too long.

04/13/2024

Buell folks, had a 2006 Uly come through this week, running pretty well, and when I used Spy to look at the ecu the AFV value was ZERO----never seen that before. Rest to 100 and no real change in the running. Tweaked his map and did a proper TPS reset, then ran it on the dyno to check the learn area. All went well.

Any Yamaha R1 folks out there---got a 1999 with two suspect plug wire ends and Yamaha wants 120+ EACH, anything special about these silly things??

03/20/2024

Serious progress made on Dave's turbo Buss with a Link ECU. Getting familiar with the tuning areas of the software. Maybe ready to put the spring back in the wastegate soonπŸ˜‰

In need of a decent Gen 1 Busa cylinder--what ya got?

Photos from Jimz Cycle Werx's post 03/12/2024

Oh boy,oh boy, just heard from Domenic that he will be finished with bike this week, hope to pick it up Wednesday, he sent a couple pics of the cold side--

Exciting news---just got a couple pics from Dominic, the fabricator working on the turbo system on my SRAD 600-- been chipping away at this build for just a bit----😜

I really need a CAN for dummies class---this stuff is worse than Greek to me. Struggling to get an AEM wideband to talk to a Link Atom G4+.

02/26/2024

Update on the recalcitrant Buell XB--tossed on a set of headers with O2 bungs and was testing a Daytona Sensors wideband I am selling and guess what-- this thing was so lean it would not run---no idea why as I have a freshly cleaned set of injectors(the second set acting the same) and a fuel pressure gauge on it showing fuel pressure steady. I threw a ton of fuel at it down low and now it idles and revs---- now to get it on the dyno. And don't say intake seals as they are new and do not leak as are the injector o-rings. Never seen this one!

02/21/2024

Here is where we are at with this misbehaving Buell XB 12. Came in with damaged head/cylinder. That was all replaced. So it has running issues down low, will start and idle for a short time then slowly die off. You can rev it and up high it seems to run great, but as the rpm comes down it starts to die off/run on one cylinder. So far swapped ecus, ignition trigger, coil, new plugs, plug wires. Ran with a fuel pressure gauge and there is constant fuel pressure. ECM-Spy shows nothing irregular? Anyone got any ideas?

Old school day at the shop---I was working on a nice 2001 Buell X-1--came in for no spark. Not sure what shop was in it before but OMG so many loose bolts--and in odd places like the rear shock mount and the front muffler mount---weird.Then had to redo intake seals--found out why--see pic.
And Dave was hard at it re-doing the top end on a 2006 Buell XB-12.
All this amidst a bevy on Hayabusas---and actually ran a turbo Busa a couple times on the dyno before we wound up for the day---

11/08/2023

Wow---actually had 2 Buells come in today---a nice 2008 STT for a neutral switch and a very clean X-1 with no spark---

09/27/2023

Working on the tune on my bike for upcoming Elmo, still a couple tweaks to go πŸ˜‰

08/05/2023

Just another day in paradise . We pull into Wendover at the house we are staying in and Dave notified a broken leaf spring. And the we saw both front ones on the double axle were broken. At 8:30 at night we went to the mechanic shop next to Motel 6 and ge dug around and had some possibilities. Told us to come back in the morning. He had heavy duty springs and u bolts. A couple hours wrenching and we are good to go. Too bad there is still nothing happening here 😜
