Saying my final goodbyes today to friends for nearly 30 years. The wrecking crews are onsite. My Mare Island. ❤️
I learned just now from my friend Larry Maggini, that the location has been confirmed of the final resting place of the USS Albacore (SS 218) lost at sea November 7, 1944. Larry and I founded and have held the Lost Boats of Mare Island Memorial for the 7 submarines built at Mare Island, annually, since 2007. We have rung a ship’s bell for the Albacore and the others of the 52 submarines lost at sea during and after WWII. We honor her and her crew of men “On Eternal Patrol”, today. ❤️
Wreck site identified as World War Two submarine USS Albacore (SS 218) Naval History and Heritage Command (NHHC) confirmed the identity of a wreck site off the coast of Hokkaido, Japan, as USS Albacore (SS 218) Feb. 16.
Nice Birthday Gift. Thank you Reporter Garvin Thomas and NBC News Bay Area. ❤️

I have been keeping a “citizen science” log this week. Might not get to even find a carcass/remains to test at Mare Island. Eerily, in one week, I saw one jackrabbit, last night only and that was at our Mare Island Shoreline Heritage Preserve gate where we have found many remains. Should have had dozens scurrying across the gravel road that ends in our Mare Island San Pablo Bay Trail parking lot, 2 miles away. Jackrabbits, feral cottontails. No one. And, yes, it’s winter. Our winters are mild and they should be out. Starting to really sink into my soul. UPDATE: This poster is updated to tell you more about the photo of Nitro and the recently deceased jackrabbit he found. It also puts more focus on YOU who have PET RABBITS. Vaccines are more available. Join Rabbit Hemorrhagic Disease News Network and report dead rabbits to https://wildlife.ca.gov/Conservation/Laboratories/Wildlife-Health/Monitoring Will you also let me know if and where you spot live rabbits?
