I got into quite a discussion with someone on a thread about “what happened to famous women dressing classy?”- like the “old Hollywood” actresses- as they were pointing out that Taylor Swift, J Lo, and others wear ridiculously revealing clothing once they become famous, and it’s not classy. I thought my latest response should be shared….

“I went down quite a rabbit hole here, and saw some pretty revealing attire on the Sophia Loren and Jayne Mansfields of the world…. I saw a lot of leg (without the opaque n**e dancers tights!) and a lot of cleavage. It is possible to find pictures of whatever point one wants to make on this topic.
Bottom line is women and fame has always been misogynistic- from the outright assault and abuse starting in the golden era to the s*x symbols of the 70’s and the Sports Illustrated cover era, to right this minute today. It is slowly getting better, but has a long way to go, and what we really don’t need is women tearing other women down.
Want to walk down Park Ave in a bra and thong at 85 years old? You go, girl. Want to wear a turtleneck in 85° because you’re always cold? I’d suggest maybe a doctor, but otherwise have at it! A size 24 who feels most comfortable at the beach in a bikini? You do you, boo.
We are our own worst critic- so wear what you like, that makes you feel good, and if anyone doesn’t like it then there are 355 other degrees in their field of vision. Defining a women’s attire as classy or not is subjective, and equating “skin revealing” to “not classy” is perpetuating the view that women’s bodies are for someone else’s pleasure.
Taylor Swift has battled disordered eating and is finally comfortable in her own skin, and THAT should be celebrated. J Lo, Pink, Lady Gaga, Gwen Stefani, Taylor Swift, etc all work hard for those bodies they have- that are strong and allow them to put on these fantastically powerful performances. And they own that s**t!!! I think THAT is pretty “classy” and should be celebrated.”

I posted a pic of Elizabeth Taylor in an iconic dress and TS in her “Speak Now” Era dress, just to make my point that people can find “proof” of whatever point they’re trying to make. Beauty is in the eye of the beholder, and the most important thing is for someone to FEEL beautiful. Everyone struggles with that, so let’s just stop being so god damned judgy, ok?!
