Jenni McAllister On the Controversial Brain Mapping Therapy That Got Her Back in the Ring After Injury Last fall, American show jumper Jenni McAllister was floating on air. A star Stanford professor leaves his lab for a startup out to remake psychiatry About five years ago, Amit Etkin had a breakthrough. The Stanford neurologist, a soft-spoken demi-prodigy who became a professor while still a resident, had been obsessed for a decade with how to better define psychiatric disorders. Drugs for depression or bipolar disorder didn't work for many patie...
Hi everyone,
I want to share a slide that I often teach. This diagram comes from the book, Migraine written by Oliver Sacks in 1985. What this is showing is that all of these apparently discreet conditions are the same condition in the brain, the same proneness, as it were, to instability at different amplitudes and over different time scales. The fast, high amplitude event manifests as an epileptic seizure, narcolepsy is very high and sudden and short lived, migraine is a slow seizure and bi-polar illness (manic-depressive cycles) are high amplitude and of long duration. You get the idea.
This graph is the most economical challenge I have found to the notion of discreet diagnoses. Cool, don’t you think?
Getting back into the school year is tough! After a year and a half of having to balance at home and/or hybrid education, getting into the fall and holiday season has many parents looking for some extra support and added skills to help their children cope (and sometimes even the parents need help coping, too, and that’s okay!)
Parent coach, Kathryn Fitzgerald, has put together 2 different support groups to offer some special tips and tricks, as well as a compassionate listening ear, to support parents in this new season of raising our children in a changing world. Her passion is to equip parents and guardians in all walks of life to be the best they can be for their children.
Foundations in Parenting is a support group where parents will learn foundational emotional grounding tools for helping their children with their emotions. (recommended for ages 1-8) Parents will come away with tools to help in balancing self care, establish healthy boundaries for themselves and their families, and activities to do with children of all ages to help calm general anxiety and promote bonding and connection.
The Attachment and Trauma Informed group is offered especially for those families raising children that have patterns of negative behaviors or reactivity rooted in Attachment and Behavioral disorders, mental illness, and past trauma. Kathryn has 10 years of experience working closely with families just like these, and comes with knowledge and understanding, as well as helpful skills to create a household where children and parents can heal and process together. Her hope is for this to be a safe place where these parents can come to share their experiences and glean some new skills to create goals in raising their struggling children.
Each group is limited for in size for smaller and more customized support. If you are unable to attend this round of support groups but are interested in future opportunities, watch our page for future groups or reach out to Kathryn directly!

Alpha activity neuromodulation induced by individual alpha-based neurofeedback learning in ecological context: a double-blind randomized study - Scientific Reports The neuromodulation induced by neurofeedback training (NFT) remains a matter of debate.
