What Is Permanent Makeup?

Permanent Makeup (also known as micro-pigmentation) results when a Makeup grade micro-pigment is implanted into the dermis layer of the skin. It is a reasonably straight forward and safe procedure.

Why Permanent Makeup?

Permanent Makeup is a chance to enhance your appearance in a way that is pleasing to you, carefree and timesaving. A well-executed procedure offers clients an almost perfect Makeup look which requires minimal attention. It is also ideal for people who have allergies.

Does it Hurt?

A medical grade topical anesthetic is used to minimize sensation. Everyone's tolerance is different, but most people find that the topical anesthetic used is very comfortable

How Long Will It Last?

The pigment is not implanted as deeply as a body tattoo because the facial skin is not as dense. Since everyone's skin takes pigment differently, one complimentary touch-up is recommended 4 to 8 weeks after the original procedure. For most people, a color refresh is recommended about every two years.

Let’s talk humidity. With summer here you can expect frizzy, puffy hair. It can totally change your texture and throw your nice style out the window. The reason why hair changes so much is because the dense, extra hydrogen in the air causes molecules in the hair to bond at a high rate.

There are many other factors that can make your hair frizzy; excessive chemical processes, brushing wet hair, tight hairstyles worn too often, and the humidity (which is an environmental factor, pollution can also be included in this).
There are many ways you can fight frizz. One of the most popular here at West Coast Hair Company is our INCA GLOW Treatment. This service combines 11 different Organic Amino Acids and naturally and safely smoothes the hair and protects it from all of the Factors that contribute to frizz! It does not contain Formaldehyde, have a smell, irritate/burn the scalp and is safe for all hair types! It is set apart from other, more traditional straightening methods, by not containing Keratin. While Keratin is known as a smoothing treatment it does contain a heavier molecular structure and is activated in a humid climate.
INCA GLOW provides long-lasting anti-frizz benefits along with straightening the hair and give you Mega Shine! It is fantastic for color treated hair and helps increase the strength of hair that is brittle and damaged.
The service takes about 2-3 hours. During your INCA GLOW service your stylist will deeply wash the hair to prepare it. They will then paint the proprietary blend of organic and natural ingredients, after application you process for a variable amount of time (20-60 minutes). The longer it is left on the more straight the hair becomes. After you finish processing the hair is completely rinsed. The hair is then blow dried and sealed. The sealing is done by straightening the hair fully. You will leave the salon with pin-straight hair, shiny, beautiful hair. If you usually don’t prefer super straight hair you can wash it as soon as you get home.

How does it compare to Keratin? Why is it better than Keratin?
It is gentler on the hair and doesn’t have the aroma the keratin does. Keratin may also have challenges fighting frizz as it is a large molecule that can be drying

Why do we use Starflower products in our facial services? All Starflower products are natural! Lets take a look at some of the ingredients and what they do to help our skin look amazing:

Almond Meal - A member of the rose family, almonds have through millennia been appreciated for their deep cleansing and exfoliating properties. Highly nutritive almond milk easily penetrates and refines the pores to bring toning and regeneration deep within the cell structure of the skin.

Almond Oil - An excellent emollient used to soothe and protect the skin. High in oleic, linoleic and other fatty acids. Healing and moistening especially in the treatment of very dry, chapped skin.

Aloe Vera Gel - A member of the lily family, contains "biogenic stimulators" which heal and regenerate the skin. Ideal for all skin types and helps skin problems of all descriptions. Healing agent, humectant and emollient all in one.

Anise Seed - A member of the carrot family. Useful in facial steams to open and medicate the pores.

Apricot Oil - A softening emollient for the skin. Moisturizes and leaves no oily film on the skin.

Arnica – An antiseptic herb which promotes the growth of new tissue, arnica has traditionally been used for bruises, wounds, and inflammations.

Arbutin - is found in the dried leaves of a number of different plant species including bearberry (Arctostaphylos uva-ursi). The leaves and leaf extracts from uva ursi are used in non-prescription medicinal products mainly to treat urinary tract infection, cystitis, kidney stones, and as a diuretic. The active component, arbutin, is effective as a bleaching agent for melanin.

No Alcohol Allowed
Why?
Hairsprays can contain anywhere between 70-90% alcohol (denatured SD). What does alcohol do? It’s a drying agent. That means it attacks moisture in your hair. Alcohol will attack the hair structure itself and destroy it, causing hair to become dry and brittle by extracting the Keratin protein you have been trying to replace. Hairsprays can actually remove ink from clothing! If it can remove ink, imagine what it does to your hair color!

In Closing
Every Soma product is rich with Keratin Protein, properly Ph balanced, and lacks common ingredients that are harmful to hair health in color.

2nd Criteria: pH Specificity

Your hair has a natural pH range between 4.5 to 5.5 (the pH scale goes from 0-14 – with 0-7 being Acidic and 7-14 being Alkaline). When you maintain your hair with products in this pH range, you keep the hair cuticle closed – locking in colour, maintaining moisture, and reducing frizz. This specific pH range is what started the whole professional hair care industry. If you are using hair care products other than Soma and the bottle reads it is pH “Balanced” – this is nothing more than a marketing term and means absolutely nothing. The pH range must be specified to be at least 5.5 or less to keep your hair cuticle closed!

For the Techies: During chemical treatment, the hair structure physically changes; the natural pH is raised above 5.5 to break bonds and/or give “lift” (open the cuticle). To colour hair, the cuticle must be lifted with the pH higher than 5.5. To maintain hair colour, pH must return to normal (4.4-5.5). External factors such as air and water (which may have a neutral pH of approximately 7), impede the ability of coloured hair to maintain its sheen and normal pH, over time. To counterbalance these effects, coloured hair should be cared for with low pH products.

In our opinion, a product line must follow three criteria for it to be deemed “Professional” quality (outside of being environmentally responsible). Remember:
Hair care does not need to be complicated!
In this day and age of fancy new ads and ambiguous label claims promising to extend color life and fix hair with chemicals using elaborate names and patented protein complexes, it’s hard to understand what’s really going on. Let’s start with some actual truths.

1st Criteria: Give Your Hair More of What it’s Made of.
Your hair is Keratin Protein. The best way to repair and protect your hair is to put Keratin Protein back into it. This is called permanent conditioning. At Soma, we use an Organic-derived chain of quaternized Keratin Protein.
For the Techies: The best way to treat damaged hair is by using what your hair produces on its own. Keratin Protein holds moisture in the hair. When hair is damaged, Keratin is lacking. The only way to fix it is by replacing the Keratin with another Keratin protein. During any “chemical” treatment, such as coloring, perming, or relaxing, cysteine bonds will break and/or reform, causing hair to become brittle. To replace moisture, chemically treated hair needs permanent conditioning. Soma products covalently bind Keratin protein and amino acids to form the unreacted sulfhydryl (SH) groups and disulfide bonds to create permanent conditioning within the hair.
Tests show that after five successive shampoos with a quaternized Keratin protein, up to 45% of the protein deposited on freshly permed or color-treated hair bonded to the hair’s cuticle and cortex; thus, successfully providing permanent condition
