We are so happy for Angus. We wish him the best during his recovery.
Hello Nach Nation,
During our return to Grandfather Mountain Highland Games we were asked many times how our dear friend Angus was doing, so we thought we would give an update here .
On our drive south to NC we made a sneaky surprise visit to Angus on the day before he was discharged .
He was in good spirits but understandably emotional and slightly confused over the recent turn of events, however his big brother Hamish was on hand to keep his spirits up and keep our Ozzie brother smiling .
Fast forward a few days we again surprised him with another visit, this time not in a hospital but in an Air B&B in some sleepy little PA town where he will spend the next month recuperating and receiving daily nurse visits & meds.
This visit he was more like our beloved pal, quirky , laughing at life yet contemplative too !
Angus has a long road of recovery in front of him as he fights to regain his strength and return to what he loves, playing live music for the people 😀
We will post updates but you can follow him via his own social media
where one of his family will be keeping us all informed…maybe Angus himself will chime in once he’s fit to do so .
His GFM page is still running so if you wish there is still time to send Angus a buck or two to aid in his recovery.
We love this laddie and are so happy that he’s on the road to recovery, keep wandering Angus ….keep wandering ❤️

WE ARE LOOKING FOR VOLUNTEERS!! If you want to have some fun on the 4th, come out to the Ventura 4th of July street fair. We would be happy to have your company for an hour or two while you also enjoy the wares of the other street vendors. We will be on Main street between Fir and Chestnut, booth 607. We look forward to seeing you and wish you a happy 4th!
Please keep Angus in your prayers. The group Brother played at our games in the early days.
Brother family, as some of you will have heard, Angus had a medical emergency at the Celtiç Fling festival on Saturday.
He arrived at Wellspan Samaritan Hospital, barely breathing and with virtually no pulse.
A little while later he went into cardiac arrest and suffered a seizure.
Turns out he was in septic shock with a staph infection in his blood, the source of which remains a mystery to the doctors.
They had grave concerns for him and considered it highly likely that he would not last the night.
Drew and Bill Reid were by his side, joined later by Bob Cahill and Jamesie, Jackie and the rest of the fellas from Albannach.
Angus fought for his life through the night and, against ridiculous odds, pulled through.
On Monday he was taken off the ventillator, which was assisting his breathing. Yesterday he was sitting up, ate a big lunch and was communicating, taking his first steps with the physio, asking if he'd still be able to take his kids to a remote cabin in Alaska next week... an adventure they have been planning for years.
Another procedure today found the infection has latched onto one of his heart valves, which will be treated by extended antibiotic infusions.
Two steps forward, one step back.
Nevertheless, doctors are hopeful Gus might be moved out of ICU in the next 24 hours.
Jack and Gwen made it to Gus on a Saturday red eye, Tina and I on Monday after a 5-leg routing from Italy.
The doctors keep reiterating that the fact he is so fit and strong has really stood him in good stead, and they now expect him to make a full recovery. But that remote cabin in Alaska will need postponing for now.
At the moment it's a day-to-day assessment but it's safe to say, Gus' bouncing back has been nothing short of miraculous.
His body and mind are battered but he's getting up off the mat.
So on that note, stay tuned. Gus has taken a beating, as have those around him, and everyone will need time and space to process and recoup.
So much gratitude to the incredible, dedicated team of doctors and nurses at Wellspan Samaritan, the quick thinking festival staff and to our Philly family, in particular Drew, Bill and Karen Reid for their care and generosity.
I know Angus would just want to say to you all, Look after each other.
Love, H
