Our Fathers Dream
I just thought I would give you all a little history of how J & J Plumerias originated. First of all this crazy idea of planting an "orchard" of plumerias started with my father in law Verner, some of you may know him, he's been selling at shows and farmers markets up and down the coast for over 20 years. He acquired his cuttings from trips that he made to Hawaii, while visiting friends. Most, well I'd say all of his friends thought he was crazy to think he could plant plumeria trees out in the great wide open up here in Southern California. He obviously ignored them and continued with his dream. He is still involved and gives advise on decision that need to made regarding the ranch.
Several of you have asked for specific names of other growers plumerias to see if I have any. The absolute honest answer would be know. I very well may have some but due to the fact that we started the trees that are now at the ranch back before 1990; before 1990 is that we decided not to plant them in in the ground until they were outgrowing 15gallon containers. We pride our plumerias as being established outside in the elements here in southern CA, to be more specific about an hour north of Los Angeles. Our trees are not grown under any sort of shade cloth, and at this point have ever had any fans or smudge pots used during the colder season. That being said I stand behind our trees 100% and know that you will be very pleased with any purchases you make. I'm not Jim Little, what a pioneer he has been, I'm not Jungle Jack or all the other great growers out there. I am J & J Plumerias. We have at this point over 45 very large trees, it's been a lot of work, well I guess I shouldn't call it work; a lot of sweat, but worth every minute of it. There are a couple trees that we have that I can guarantee what they are; Kauka Wilder and Daisy Wilcox are two that I know if for sure. We are in the process of getting a website up and running so please be patient. We have recently began shipping our cutting and that has been a learning curve to say the least. For those of you that have already purchased cutting I would like to thank you! Hopefully you were happy with the transaction and come back for more, hey you can even tell your friends.
