On Saturday, we were invited to attend a high school choral workshop hosted by CSUCI and the Channel Islands Choral Association! We had a great time learning some new warm ups, going over vocal technique, making new friends from across the county, sight-reading two songs, having sectionals, performing for chaperones, learning about CSUCI admissions, going on a campus tour, and enjoying some food from the Islands Cafe! Thank you so much to Dr. KuanFen Liu, Sabrena Moreno, and Jerry Cruz for hosting a wonderful workshop, as well as .choir for providing the food and giving away little grab bags! We certainly hope that this workshop continues in the future, and that we can bring a lot more students next year!

Congrats to the following “honorary choir” students and staff that I have been blessed to work with on the musicals and/or the Not-So-Silent CD Project. It has been amazing seeing you learn and grow, and I hope you keep music in your lives after high school!
Congrats to all of our current and previous Choir seniors for graduating! I am so grateful for our time singing together, and I wish you all of the best in the future! Take care!

Thanks to all of the students and parents who helped organize and put in our Buena Music banquet last night! It was a special way to end the year, honoring all of our students with their own “dog tags,” as well as with speciality awards for rookie of the year, most improved, outstanding performer, and the National School Chorus Award. The food from was amazing, and the whole event was a success.
We also were blessed to have our librarian, Joel Levin, come in and give a lesson on the business side of music, and we reviewed all of the finances for how much it costs to release our albums each year, and how much money we made.
Congratulations to all of our student soloists for their hard work, courage, and musical artistry! We love encouraging students to express themselves with their own song choices, and they did a great job pushing themselves to learn and grow.
Thanks to Mr. Gonzales and the Balboa Middle School Choir, and Mr. Duchai and the Buena High School Jazz Band for joining us at our end of year showcase on Thursday, May 30th! It was wonderful seeing students come together to celebrate and cheer for each other’s performances, but the best part was giving students a platform to showcase everything they have learned this year. Thanks to our accompanists, Dino Sordilla and Scott Cooper, and to everyone who came to support these amazing students!

Thank you so much to Christopher Peterson and the California State University Fullerton Concert Choir for coming out to Buena High School for a choral workshop! Not only did you all sound so amazing, but you shared some great advice for our students. We were so grateful for the opportunity to listen and learn, and hope you all have a wonderful Spring tour!
On Friday, March 15th, the Buena High School Choir went to a Southern California Vocal Association choir festival at Santa Paula High School and received a “superior” rating, the highest rating offered.
Thank you to Jerry Cruz, Sabrina Moreno, and the Santa Paula Choir for being such kind and thoughtful hosts. We are so grateful to Tammy Alderman and Leland Vail, the amazing choral professors who drove a long way to give us such great feedback, and to the Santa Paula, Rancho Campana, and Camarillo High School Choirs for their lovely performances. These students have worked hard to learn and grow, and they should be proud of their efforts.
Thanks to BHS Band Director, Mr. Duchai, for coming out and taking pictures, and to the Buena Music Association and everyone who has supported the Buena HS Choir over the years. A huge thank you to Dr. Asplund for finding a way to fund our amazing accompanist, Scott Cooper, and to the Ventura Unified School District and the voters of Ventura for helping to modernize this program with previous parcel taxes that helped us get new risers, acoustic shell backdrops, and even Choir folders. The current parcel tax funds are ending this year, so please consider voting for a new parcel tax in order to continue supporting amazing programs like this one for our students to enjoy.
For your chance to hear the Buena High School Choir, come on out to the Buena High School McConnell Auditorium on Thursday, May 30th for the Choir and Jazz Showcase at 6pm.

The Buena High School Choir
Buena High School’s choir program provides opportunities for students of all ability levels to develop vocal techniques and learn music fundamentals. The choir performs live at concerts, participates in competitive music festivals, and records albums with the school's professional-quality recording studio. Each year, the choir records and produces a full-length album, releasing the final product on all major music distribution platforms (including iTunes, Amazon, Google Play, Spotify, and YouTube). Through this process, students analyze their recordings, evaluate their performances, and make meaningful changes to their practice routines in order to refine their artistry, all while learning about the business side of making music. This program provides an incredible opportunity for students to share their voices, fostering individual accountability and growth while providing group support.
