I purchased this beautiful canvas piece a decade ago. I received so many inquiries about the vantage point, some even saying it wasn't real, but photoshopped.

Practically months later, after settling in, did I glance out of the studio windows and behold! It was exactly the same view!

God is good! I am exactly where I am meant.

Bloom wherever you are planted!

Let's talk myofascial release!

Now, this is my jam! I've been teaching self-myofascial release since 2007 when I was first introduced to it by the National Academy of Sports Medicine. From that time on, I've devoured everything from the works of Dr. Janet Travell to Vladimir Janda to John F. Barnes to (both of the latter which I owe the introduction to ). Come roll with me weekly at the studio. Self care starts here.

Keep your peepers open for the upcoming schedule!

05/23/2024

Yes! You've been asking for it. Classes open soon so keep your peepers spying for the info to drop! Rolling classes are in the works, too!

Healing takes awareness, advocacy, and a village.

First-generation Filipinos and their families often face struggles related to cultural adjustment, discrimination, language barriers, and the pressure to succeed in a new country while preserving their cultural identity. These challenges can lead to stress, anxiety, depression, and other mental health issues.

Therapy illuminates how cultural background and past traumas may influence mental health, behaviors, and generational cycles of trauma by providing a safe space for individuals to explore and process their experiences. Addressing the stigma surrounding therapy, first-generation Filipino families can create healthier family dynamics and build stronger, more resilient communities.

Let's talk about dry brushing...

Dry brushing is an ancient practice with roots in Ayurveda, a traditional Indian system of medicine. It involves using a natural-bristled brush to gently massage the skin in a specific pattern, typically before bathing.

The benefits of dry brushing include:
1. Exfoliation: It helps to remove dead skin cells, promoting smoother and softer skin.
2. Stimulation of the Lymphatic System: Dry brushing is believed to stimulate the lymphatic system, aiding in detoxification by promoting lymph flow and drainage.
3. Improved Circulation: The brushing action can help to stimulate blood flow to the skin, potentially improving circulation.
4. Reduction of Cellulite: Some proponents claim that dry brushing can help reduce the appearance of cellulite by breaking down fatty deposits.
5. Stress Reduction: The act of dry brushing can be relaxing and may help reduce stress levels.

Incorporate dry brushing into yoir self-care routine for inproved skin appearance and overall well-being. As with any wellness practice, it's essential to listen to your body.

Quivering of the heart 🤍

I love this interpretation of Karuna. It draws us toward the internal sensation within that stirs us into compassionate and kind action.

As a supervised mental health therapist (active licensee), I help individuals take an active role in their own healing process, leading to greater self-awareness, resilience, and long-term mental health benefits.

Spring detox for mind, body, and soul 🌬 Here's a step-by-step plan:

1. Meditation: Begin each day with a meditation session to center your mind and promote mental clarity. Focus on deep breathing and let go of any stress or tension.

2. Sleep: Prioritize getting enough restful sleep each night. Establish a bedtime routine and create a calm, comfortable sleep environment to enhance sleep quality.

3. Journaling: Dedicate time each day for journaling to reflect on your thoughts, feelings, and goals. Use this as an opportunity for self-discovery and to track your progress throughout the detox process.

4. Yoga: Incorporate regular yoga sessions into your routine to improve flexibility, strength, and overall well-being. Choose poses that promote detoxification and relaxation, such as twists and forward folds.

5. Digital Detox: Limit your screen time and take breaks from technology to reduce mental clutter and promote mindfulness. Engage in offline activities like reading, spending time outdoors, or connecting with loved ones face-to-face.

6. Decluttering: Streamline your physical space by decluttering your home and workspace. Clear out items that no longer serve you and organize your environment to create a sense of calm and order.

Four Bonus Tips 🍃
Nourish your body with wholesome, detoxifying foods such as fruits, vegetables, whole grains, and lean proteins. Stay hydrated by drinking plenty of water and herbal teas.

Consider incorporating natural beauty products into your routine to minimize exposure to toxins.

Practice gratitude and positive affirmations to promote a sense of contentment and fulfillment.

Set clear, achievable goals for yourself and outline actionable steps to bring your ideas and aspirations to fruition. Break larger goals into smaller tasks to maintain motivation and momentum.

By following these steps, you'll embark on a holistic spring detox that nurtures your mind, body, and soul, setting the stage for renewed energy, vitality, and success.

Building "heat."

The ancient yogis discovered that fiery passion is necessary for spiritual awakening and transformation. Ignite your fire with these tips:

🪷 Practice Self-Discipline: Commit to regular yoga practice, meditation, and a healthy lifestyle. This includes maintaining a balanced diet, getting enough rest, and avoiding harmful habits.

🪷 Set Goals: Define clear, meaningful objectives aligned with your spiritual path. Whether it's mastering a challenging yoga pose, deepening your meditation practice, or cultivating virtues like compassion and gratitude, setting goals helps focus your efforts.

🪷 Stay Committed: Embrace discomfort and challenges as opportunities for growth. When faced with obstacles, tap into your inner strength and resolve to persevere despite difficulties.

🪷 Cultivate Willpower: Train your mind to overcome distractions and temptations that may hinder your progress. Develop the willpower to stay focused on your goals and resist impulses that lead you away from your chosen path.

🪷 Practice Austerity: Simplify your life by reducing excess and unnecessary distractions. Embrace simplicity in your possessions, daily routines, and interactions, allowing more space for spiritual reflection and growth.

🪷 Reflect and Adjust**: Regularly reflect on your progress and make adjustments as needed. Be honest with yourself about areas where you may be lacking in discipline or where you could improve, and take proactive steps to address them.

🪷 Serve Others: Engage in selfless service (seva) as a way to cultivate tapas. By helping others without expecting anything in return, you not only contribute to the well-being of others but also strengthen your own spiritual practice.

🪷 Practice Gratitude: Cultivate an attitude of gratitude for the challenges and blessings in your life. Recognize that every experience, whether pleasant or difficult, offers an opportunity for growth and learning.

Within the Eightfold Path...

Tapas refers to the disciplined practice or effort put into achieving a goal. It involves cultivating self-discipline, passion, and perseverance on the mat and in life. Saucha, on the other hand, emphasizes cleanliness and purity, not only in a physical sense but also in thoughts and actions.

Together, Tapas and Saucha, integral parts of the Niyamas (ethical guidelines), encourage practitioners of yoga philosophy (also known as a science of transformation) to approach life through disciplined effort.

These and more are integrated into all that is offered at ISW for harmonious movement physically, mentally, and spiritually.

What many of us today think of as ‘yoga’ - could be more accurately called 'asana practice'.

Many of us first discover yoga through the physical practice of yoga poses (asana). However, this is just one small aspect of a much deeper and richer practice, as explained in the EightLimbsofYoga

Asana – “sthira sukham asanam”
Asana is the third limb in the Eight Limbs of Yoga from Patanjali ’s ‘Yoga Sutras’ and it literally means ‘seat’ – specifically the seat you take for meditation. The most important and, in fact, the only description of asana given in the YogaSutras is “sthira sukham asanam”, meaning that every asana should be ‘STEADY’ and ‘COMFORTABLE’ – STHIRA and SUKHA.

‘Sthira’ means steady or stable or grounded or strong and ‘Sukha’ means comfortable or easy (or ‘easeful’) or peaceful. Whenever you practice yoga you’re trying to find that balance between these two aspects. Seeking this equilibrium is what it’s all about!

Why?
If we can be steady and comfortable and not ‘pulled’ by the aches and pains of the body, or distracted by restlessness due to an uncomfortable position or a whirling mind, we can sit in meditation ‘endlessly’! This, according to the Eight Limbs of Yoga, is the purpose of asana.

👉👉👉 But… it’s not just about that perfect seat.
This constant exploration between Sthira and Sukha in our asana / yoga postures, as with all things, impacts our daily life. Asana teaches us to strengthen areas of weakness, shed light on places unlit and relax areas of contraction. It encourages us to practice acceptance, allowing things to just ‘BE’ and teaches us to cultivate balance in our life – to live with contentment and ease. -EckhartYoga

Pilates at ISW is grounded in Physical Therapy concepts for vitality and pain-free movement.

I combine myofascial release techniques, somatic work rooted in yoga philosophy, ancient Eastern medicines, and intuitive knowledge. Studying the work of Dr. Janet Travell, the first female physician to a U.S. president and original innovator of trigger point therapy, I became fascia-nated by fascia.

Vladimir Janda, a neurologist, has also influenced my work.

I have watched and worked with thousands of bodies in motion, including the U.S. Navy, and spent countless hours in self-study and continuing education.

There is nothing new under the sun when it comes to movement science, only more innovation and collaboration by like minds. I like to say, "It's not magic, it's anatomy." I am happy to have been a part of the early revolution that sought to release society from the "no pain, no gain" mentality.
Thank you to my teachers
and many, many more!

My mottos have always been to empower and encourage "aging gracefully" to "help people do what they love pain-free for as long as they live" with the most "optimal posture."

How do you want to move in your body?

Trillions of nerve endings are located in our fingertips.

Touch fosters our growth. It nurtures our health and sense of well-being. This is why babies lie on bare chests when they first burst into the scene. It's like the oxygen we need to breathe. It's needed to feel love ❤️

Stress is actually something we do to ourselves.

I learned from my teacher, Audrey Walzer, , during her 11-week Mindfulness Meditation course that we love to use "stress" as a noun when it is a verb. We literally stress ourselves out!

•Slow down.
•Ask yourself, what is the kindest thing you can do for yourself right now? Drink water? Go for a walk? Rest?
•Remember, it's about intention. Not perfection.

Where the water meets the sky.

Still can't believe I get to wake up to this view just a few steps from my front door and do what I love- teach Pilates. Without the boats and plants, you wouldn't know which was sky and which was sea~ Amazing that all this beauty exists. It feels like living in a bubble considering all that is happening around the globe. Yet, it's essential that we maintain wonder and awe so that we remember that greater things beyond our earthly knowledge and power are at play... and to be grateful for the time we have ♥︎

Hope you join me for Pilates by the water 🌊⛵️☀️

October 💜

October is National Domestic Violence Awareness Month, also known as Intimate Partner Violence Awareness Month. Approximately one in three women and one in four men will experience some form of intimate partner dating violence or domestic violence in their lifetime.

As a survivor of domestic violence, it isn't that DV/IPV doesn't occur any other time of year.

During DVAM/IPVAM, victim advocates, allied professionals, survivors of abuse, their loved ones, and the surrounding community come together to mourn the lives lost to domestic violence, celebrate the progress that has been made to end this epidemic, and connect with others working to create change.

Reiki Drumming ♡

These Saturdays were so special with and

I miss the quiet of the industrial park. We were a hidden gem of solitude and sweetness. Saturdays were especially dear, landing together, journeying the internal landscape through the call of the drum. Sacred heartbeat rhythm. Reiki. Thai massage. Bright eyes and afterglow. No one ever wanted to leave.

Maybe one day soon~ we'll land together again
