Congratulations to VHHS freshman photography student Jordyn Hein whose work was selected for this yearβs 2024 Student Perspectives Student Show. The gallery received over 400 images from Chicago and area high schools this spring. Juror Nate Matthews from Northeastern Illinois University selected 40 images and was very impressed with the breadth of work submitted. One student photographer's work from D128 was selected for inclusion in this selective exhibit where students display and sell their work in this professional gallery in downtown Evanston.
The Opening Reception for the Student Perspectives Show was held on Saturday May 4, 5-7PM. Jordyn's photo is on view through Memorial Day weekend at Perspective Gallery is located at 1310-1/2B Chicago Avenue, Evanston, IL.

Music in the Parks 2024
Once again, we are organizing MUSIC IN THE PARKS, our biggest annual fundraiser for the VHHS Cougar Arts Support Team.
Saturday May 18th from 7:00 am - 3:00 pm
This event is arranged for out-of-town schools to compete within our facilities. We are asking for volunteers to fill a number of roles, such as bus greeters, concessions, sign-in table, and more.
Please sign up for as many shifts as you are able to- we would love to have you in the same job for both shifts if you have the time available on that date. This is a fun and easy way to meet other fine arts parents and help support our program.
Thank you so much for your continued help and support of CAST and the VHHS Fine Arts program.

During the week of April 22, students' drawn and painted portraits from Allison Molloy's Fall Drawing & Painting Studio and AP Class were hand-delivered to children in Jordan who are refugees from Syria. Partners with The Memory Project and the founder spent a few days presenting the portraits to children on the border of Jordan and Syria.
With the Middle East on the brink of a wider war, the Syrian children know that drones, bombs, and fighter jets have flown high above their heads over the last couple of weeks. In the shadow of war, violence, and fear, these portraits are a powerful reminder of the humanity we share.
Please see the video of the refugee children in Jordan receiving their portraits created by VHHS student artists and others from across the United States through The Memory Project.
This is a non-profit youth arts organization that has been promoting intercultural understanding and kindness between children across the world since 2004. Students have participated in this VHHS Global Scholars Visual Art project project for 9 years by painting and drawing children from 16 countries so far.
We are excited to share the following video of the children receiving their portraits with the D128 Community and Vernon Hills High School. The purpose of this video is to highlight the significant joy that our students create for all of the children together, not to highlight specific portraits. We hope you will feel how touched they were by our students' creative and caring efforts!

VHHS' Backlight Theater Company Presents: The Laramie Project
About the Show - In October of 1998, Matthew Shepard, a gay 21-year-old University of Wyoming student, was kidnapped, severely beaten, and left tied to a fence in the middle of the prairie outside of Laramie, Wyoming. Over the next year and a half, members of the Tectonic Theater Project made six trips to Laramie and conducted more than 200 interviews with the people of the town. Tectonic Theater members constructed The Laramie Project, a documentary style play, from these interviews and their own experiences in Laramie. The play is a breathtaking collage that explores the depths to which humanity can sink and the heights of compassion of which we are capable.
Tickets for The Laramie Project are on sale NOW. Get your tickets today!
Performances are April 25-27 at 7pm in the VHHS Studio Theatre.
Adults $5 - Students $4
Get your tickets here: http://vhfatickets.com/
*Please note: Due to its mature content and strong language, The Laramie Project is best suited for mature audiences.
