Bringing about healing for ourselves and the planet at the same time by learning to work with the un

02/20/2022

Failure is not such a bad thing.

If you work really hard at something and fail, maybe you can relax and just do a little bit of work on the beach. Maybe you can decide that is enough.

Maybe you can do some yoga. Maybe you can take naps. Maybe you can stop using an alarm clock and allow your body and spirit to rise naturally.

Maybe you can spend more time with your friends and family. Maybe you can read for pleasure. Maybe you can take up that hobby you've always wanted to get into, like planting succulents or painting or hula hooping.

I wonder why we started to think success is better than failure? I've been around successful people who were always stressed out. Each new level of achievement simply brought a new level of stress. And I've been around people with such happiness, an infectious kind of joy, who never did achieve our cultural markers of success. Maybe they didn't know they were supposed to?
I have tasted success. And I have tasted failure. Neither brought me peace and happiness. Peace and happiness have come of their own accord, when I decided that neither of those things mean anything at all.

February 20th | Day 8

02/16/2022

I tried to do some muscle testing this morning to see if I could identify which are the foods that are harmful to me. There is so much conflicting information out there! I've seen muscle testing work for others, so I thought I would give it another go.

I tried a self-testing technique. I asked Bob to test me. I watched a couple of videos and tried it again. For the life of me, none of it worked. None of that stuff ever works for me. I wonder why?

Could it be because I already know the answer? Could it be that I already know what to do? If all that exists is inside of me, and nothing at all is outside of me, then shouldn't I trust myself to know the answer?

Could it be that I actually DO know the answer but I don't really want to abide by the truth that I know, so I am looking to some kind of evidence outside of myself to tell me a different answer than the one that I don't want to hear?

I wonder what would happen if I just believed that I already know what to do? I wonder what would happen if I just trusted myself that I already indeed know the answer I am looking for. For me, in this present moment, I know that I know. I know that I know at least part of the answer. These techniques are just methods for me to avoid the truth that I already carry within me.

I remember once signing up for a course on intuition. I learned that all we need to learn about intuition could be taught in five minutes. Do you want to know what was taught?

Do the thing.

There is some thing inside of you that you know. Some thing that niggles at you from time to time. Some thing that you know you should do, or some thing that you know you should stop doing. It is probably niggling at you right now. That is the thing.

Do the thing.

Stop looking for other answers than the one you already know. Once you do the thing, the next one will open up to you.

February 16th | Day 4

02/15/2022

I have to go for lab work again today. When did my thyroid levels first go haywire? It was around the time of our Master training. And my cholesterol levels? That came before.

If it is true that my body's cells are constantly regenerating, why do the new ones look so much like the old ones?

I see only the past.

I arrive in each new moment carrying all that I have learned, and so the past is thus given claws to attach itself to the present. Thus, as I create from the present with all of the past attached to it, I create a future that smacks of the past.

I wonder what would happen if I could stop doing this? I wonder what might happen if I could detach the past from the present and allow a truly new day to dawn? I wonder what would happen if the future were no longer limited by the things I told myself I have learned from the past? If the power of creation exists in this present moment, what might happen if I decided to unleash it?

In Reiki, we have a symbol for distant healing. Not only does it enable me to send healing to a distant loved one, it also enables me to send healing to a distant moment in time. We are taught that we can heal the past. We are taught that we can send Reiki back in time to heal a trauma at its origin. This is based on the understanding that "the origin of all things is pure consciousness."

What if I allowed this to be so? What if I allowed my past to be healed? I wonder what new things I might create with my one wild and precious life, now unencumbered by anything that has come before? And what if we could do this on a global scale? Can we imagine it? Or we giving the past its claws again?

It takes but one moment to choose differently.

This one.

Or this one.

How about this one?

February 15th | Day 3

02/14/2022

I was happiest when I was on the road. Outside. Enjoying nature. For all the perceived inconveniences, when I really think about it, I am happiest when I am spending lots of unstructured time outdoors.

Bob invited me to the beach on Saturday. I didn't "feel like" going. Getting my bathing suit on. Putting on sunscreen, making sure it covered my entire body. Filling a water bottle or two. Driving all the way over there. Finding a parking spot. Blah blah blah. Not to mention coming back home and getting the sand out of everything. Scrubbing that pasty zinc oxide residue off of me. Washing the salt out of my long, fine hair. It always feels like such a hassle.

Plus, I had a training that afternoon. And what about dinner? I hadn't even thought about that yet. And what about the packages I needed to get in the mail? No, no. I had too much to do.

And so I declined. And so he left.

And so I went about my morning doing the usual - getting things done. But something didn't feel right.

And so I made myself an extra cup of coffee. And I called my mom. And I got my workout in. And I got those packages out. And I took out a side of salmon for dinner. And I sat down in front of my laptop for the six-hour training session about to begin.

And guess what?

Claire began the training by reading a Mary Oliver poem. The poet had spent all day wandering the open fields, not knowing how to feel "idle and blessed." She contemplated a grasshopper moving its jaws back and forth. What else should she have done? Doesn't everything die in the end? And too soon? I wonder what will you do with your one wild and precious life?

What am I doing, I wondered? Why am I sitting here in front of my laptop on a beautiful Saturday afternoon? What have I been doing with myself all day? And why am I choosing all of this over Bob's invitation to the beach?

I'm doing it again, aren't I? I am frittering my life away, working, instead of being in deep enjoyment of the wild and precious world around me. Didn't I learn anything during those two long years on the road?

Then Claire read it again. Tell me, what is it you plan to do with your one wild and precious life?

Galentines on the River - a Wellness in the Wild *Heart Coherence* Workshop

You’ve probably heard about being in “a state of flow.” It might happen during a yoga class or in meditation, having a great conversation with trusted friends, or while communing with Nature. A state of flow is the zone in which our hearts, minds, and bodies are at one and we feel a deep connection with ourselves and others. When we experience this deep connection, not only within ourselves but also with our environment and even with the Earth, we enter into a state of *coherence*.

Scientific studies have shown that when we cultivate emotions of appreciation, love, and compassion (as opposed to anxiety, anger, or fear) the oscillations of our heart rhythm become more coherent or consistent. This *coherence* has been linked to a sense of wellbeing, emotional intelligence and stability, and the capacity to reach peak states of mindfulness.

Join us for a special Galentines on the River - a Wellness in the Wild *Heart Coherence* Workshop kayaking the St. Sebastian River. Sunday, February 13th from 10a - 4p. Gather your gal pals or come alone and make new meaningful connections as we cultivate coherence in communion with Nature and each other.

Wellness in the Wild events are deep-dive, women-centered experiences where Wellness meets Outdoor Adventure meets Feminine Empowerment.

Two expert guides, one unforgettable experience. My adventure playmate Jennifer Satterly, owner of Eagle Ray Kayaks, will serve as our eco-educator and safety guide. My role is the wellness guide as a Reiki Master Teacher and healing practitioner. Together, we will help lead you into practices of coherence and into a deep, abiding connection with the wisdom and wellness of the wild.

Limited admission for this small-group excursion. Click here for more details and registration information: Galentines on the River - a Wellness in the Wild *Heart Coherence* Workshop

Can an online healing session be as powerful as in person?

"DHA's online group healing sessions helped me in many ways including better sleep, less insomnia, an overall feeling of relaxation & happiness, a wider point of view on the inner world & the inner self.” -Shaun S (Barcelona, Spain)

The pandemic has brought about sweeping changes in the way we live, including a major shift in the way we think about and access health and healing services. As the world shut down, Jessi and I teamed up to offer online Reiki. At a time when they were most needed, people could no longer see their healers. So we brought the healing to them.

We quickly saw that not only was Reiki effective in online healing sessions, it offered people safety, convenience, and community. Thus was born Dreamscapes Healing Arts.

For the past two years, we have dedicated ourselves to creating a healing pathway that reaches wherever wifi does. We have sessions devoted to Covid Care, Restorative Reiki sessions for mental health professionals, and more.

Might you benefit from a healing session? Set aside just one hour to reduce stress, relieve chronic pain, ease anxiety, improve sleep, and increase your overall sense of well-being. Jessi and I do all the "work". All you have to do is relax and receive. Join us from the comfort of your own home. Be transported into peace and beauty.

It's easy to sign up - just send me a message. Or visit Dreamscapes Healing Arts for a booking link. Look for this same photo in the comments to schedule into this week's sessions.

Dreamscapes Healing Arts is a collaborative healing initiative by co-creators Jessica Browne-White and Sonya Louise. All are welcome.

I have so much love for you. The loving thoughts I have toward you are ceaseless and infinite. Were you to try to count them, they would number the grains of sand in the ocean, the stars in the cosmos. All day, every day, my heart is overflowing with love and gratitude for you. Time and space could never contain the measure of all that my love is and has and wants for you.

Time and space however do constrain the number of actions I can take to express my love. And were I to spend all day, every day in multitudes of actions of loving expression, it would only offer you a fraction of the height and depth of my love. Let us not, therefore restrain my love in such ways. Just close your eyes and let it flow to you in all of its fullness. And should you ever doubt, just close your eyes once more, and let the smile of my heart rest upon yours, and you will doubt no more.

No matter when, no matter where, my love will flow to you in an instant, and it is always willing to answer your call. And the answer is always Yes, I am willing.

💝

In gratitude for the gift of Reiki. Healing is real. Healing is now. Healing is ours. 💖

She carries the very breath of life. In her, we ourselves can breathe again. It was one of the things I loved most about the two years I spent on the road in wild places. Deep, slow, conscious breathing. Crisp, clean air filling my lungs and energizing my bones.

Those tired, heavy bones that had carried the weight of the world for so many years became light again, as though she had lifted my burden with the morning fog. When the dark night of the soul descended, it was the Earth who came to my rescue and taught me to breathe again.

She calls to us now, to return the favor, to help her breathe again.

“The care of the Earth is our most ancient and most worthy, and after all, our most pleasing responsibility. To cherish what remains of it, and to foster its renewal, is our only legitimate hope.” ~Wendell Berry

This is how we heal ourselves and the planet at the same time.

Call to action: GO be outside today. STOP trying to do anything at all for just a few moments - just be there. TAKE one deep, slow, conscious breath. Release. Repeat as desired. GIVE thanks to the Earth.

💖🐾🦋

I am here to serve women on the road. Consider me your Trail Angel. You are not forgotten. The world may have carried on in your absence, but I see you - brave and beautiful. I am holding space for your deep transformation. Let me know how I can help.

Step 1: Hear the heart of the earth. She is calling you.
Step 2: Be in relationship with her.
Step 3: ...

This is how we heal ourselves and the planet at the same time.

I stand to protect Reiki for YOU, our clients, and our students, especially those suffering with symptoms from acute and chronic illness, including cancer and the long-haul ravages of Covid-19.

The Massachusetts legislature will hear live zoom testimony on the proposed bills to require licensing for Reiki and other non-invasive healing practices on December 13. I did my part to protect Reiki and submitted my written testimony today:

Please do not limit our access to Reiki and other valuable and safe healing practices.

I am opposed to the MA bills S.221 and H.350 which would require professionals who practice Reiki and other non-invasive holistic therapies to be licensed by the state.

I cannot fathom why a natural, beautiful, helpful, non-invasive healing technique would need to be legally standardized and thus priced out-of-reach for thousands of under-served, at-risk practitioners and clients who rely on the practice of Reiki for daily well-being and for relief of symptoms from acute and chronic illness, including cancer and the long haul ravages of Covid-19.

As Reiki teachers, I and my partner have served dozens of individuals whose lives have been devastated by the lingering effects of Covid infection, effects for which traditional medicine has been at a loss to remediate. Here is personal testimony from one of them:

"Years ago, I had a brief experience watching a very sick friend of mine receive Reiki for the first time. She was in the hospital, dying of cancer, and her biggest complaint was that she could not sleep.

Another friend stood behind her and gave her Reiki without touching her.

Within a few minutes, the sick friend was fast asleep.

So having witnessed that, and being more than a little impressed, when I got sick myself and saw a zoom offering to receive Reiki, I jumped at it. At the time I was suffering from tachycardia, anxiety, shortness of breath--the whole covid long-hauler enchilada.

That hour was the best I had felt in months. The relaxation was so deep, so thorough. Symptoms abated. I came again later, and the experience was just as profound, and so I decided why not learn how to do this magic myself?

As teachers, Sonya and Jessi are truly wonderful. They know their stuff, obviously, and communicate it well. But the thing that really elevates their course is their willingness to meet their students where they are. In my case, that meant having a student who was very ill and sometimes could barely summon the energy for a zoom. And also a student who, despite the evidence of my own experience, felt some skepticism about the process of Reiki.

They did not ask me to do more than I could, physically or in any other way, because they are healers. And they did not brush off my skepticism or try to stuff it down because they are excellent teachers, and encourage talking about whatever comes up. Their confidence that the experience of Reiki will convince me rather than their insistence is encouraging just on its own.

The Reiki 1 class was everything I wanted: the tools to treat myself. And boy have I used it! Ever since that first class, I have done Reiki on myself every day, sometimes many times in a day. If I was feeling covid symptoms, I would do Reiki. If I felt discouraged about the length of the illness, I would do Reiki. I did it first thing in the morning and the last thing before falling asleep.

And the result was a big increase in calmness, in being in the parasympathetic state where healing can take place. I think taking that Reiki 1 class has been an important part of my recovery."

Regulation disproportionately and adversely affects already marginalized populations such as people of color and women. The National Institutes of Health states that Reiki practice "has not been shown to have any harmful effects," therefore government regulation is not needed to protect the public. In fact, I would suggest the opposite is true.

We face unprecedented challenges - as individual people and as a united republic. Now more than ever, we need to support fair and equitable access to care. Our personal and collective well-being depends on you making the right choice to defend our right to choose the most accessible and effective complementary healing modalities available, especially those that require so little of us in return.

Please oppose S.221 and H.350.

With great respect and tremendous urgency,
Sonya Louise

The Massachusetts legislature needs to hear not only from the Reiki community but also from people who practice or receive Qi Gong, Asian Bodywork Therapy, Trager, Feldenkrais, Ayurvedic Therapies, Reflexology, Polarity Therapy, Rolf Structural Integration, Body Mind Centering, Acupressure, Energy and Somatic Healing Practices. All those practices are currently unlicensed. More will be added to the licensing list if the bills pass, and it will happen fast.

If MA enacts regulation, it sets a precedent that other states might follow. Oregon is working on regulation and Vermont has already passed it. We must act now. Thank you to Pamela Miles at Reiki in Medicine dot org for being the champion of this cause. I stand with you and the entire community of complementary healing arts professionals, students, and clients.

Contact me if you'd like to submit your own testimony. Deadline is December 13th, which is my grandson's birthday - who is on the autism spectrum and receives daily distant Reiki from me.

Reduce stress. Relieve chronic pain. Ease anxiety. Improve sleep. Increase your overall sense of well-being. All in a deeply restful and restorative space created just for YOU.

Unwind with Reiki-Nidra - Wednesdays at 6p Eastern co-hosted by Sonya Louise and Jessica Browne-White.

Combining Reiki and Yoga Nidra, you’ll be gently guided into a deeply restful state where healing can take place at the subconscious/unconscious level. Here you can let go, unburden, and do nothing for thirty minutes of blissful stillness.

What do we mean by stillness? Put simply, it is the ability to rest fully by disengaging the active mind and engaging the parasympathetic nervous system. This allows you to enter deeply relaxed states, restoring the body and mind. Best of all, you don’t need to do anything except lie down and listen!

“The part that I like best is this magic. Not putting my worries into words but imagining the color and shape of them… allowing the parts of my body to speak, instead. It’s more like an art, and I love it. One day I’m a brittle leaf, one day I’m a butterfly. I like the playfulness of it. It really touches me.”

Come together and connect with like-minded others in a small, supported group session held once a week. Change your energy. Change your life. Change the world.

This session is conducted over Zoom so you can participate from the comfort and safety of your home. Allow one hour for the full experience including tuning in, guided meditation, and feedback.

There is this phenomenon in the healing world wherein we have come to realize that humans do not change until the pain that we are currently in exceeds the fear we have - or the challenge we imagine we will have - in making the change we think we want.

We all want to be well, right? But what will that require of us? Will it be worth it? How will I know? Maybe I will start tomorrow.

Jung called it "causal necessity." Without necessity, nothing budges.

So how is it that women who do not "like to camp" and would not consider themselves "outdoorsy" will follow me into the wild for a weekend? Why will they get up hours before usual to greet the rising sun with me? Why will they risk unknown discomforts and inconveniences for some unspecified outcome that cannot be promised? And do it all with rapt attention and eager anticipation? Hmmm...

Is it because we sense we are expanding? That something deep and mysterious is waiting for us just beyond our comfort zone? Does that glimmer of *something more* call to us with such gravity that we can hardly contain the desire to answer and explore it?

I think so.

No, not all will hear the call. But for those who do...

Well, let's just say it will be quite the adventure.

You are in the right place if you feel a deep need to *get away*, if your longing to visit exotic destinations and to wander through wide, open spaces comes from a deeper place than what is commonly called tourism. If your desire to GO is fueled by a vague sense of emptiness coupled with a barely perceived promise of something greater, you are already heading in the right direction.

Perhaps you have denied yourself this "luxury" in the past. I did the same for years. But something has recently shaken you. A sense of restless fury has been ignited within, and the very core of you quakes with a need to GO that feels at once utterly delirious and incomprehensibly wise. It's almost as if the longing can no longer be contained. It cannot. You cannot.

This post was inspired by a dear friend. When she reads it, she will know who she is. By the by, I am proud of you, no matter what you decide to do - or where you decide to GO.
