Juneteenth honors the end to slavery in the United States and is considered the longest-running African American holiday. Most importantly, it represents victory over the institution of slavery and the beginning of the fulfillment of America’s promise of life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness for African Americans.

Today marks the 80th anniversary of D-Day landings along the Normandy coast during World War II. May we thank these service members for their bravery and sacrifice. May we honor their heroism, which liberated a continent and saved the world. And may we recommit to the future they fought and which many died for.

Here’s a snapshot of how Beachmasters celebrated Asian American and Pacific Islander Heritage Month with a delicious command potluck and some fun at the First Class Petty Officer Association’s Pie in the Face event!

Join us on April 24, 2024 in wearing denim to show support of survivors of sexual assault and to help raise awareness. 💙

Denim Day originated in response to a 1999 ruling by the Italian Supreme Court in where a r**e conviction was overturned because the justices felt that since the victim was wearing tight jeans she must have helped her ra**st remove her jeans, thereby implying consent. The following day, the women in the Italian Parliament came to work wearing jeans in solidarity with the victim. Peace Over Violence developed the Denim Day campaign in response to this case and the activism surrounding it. Since then, wearing jeans on Denim Day has become a symbol of protest against erroneous and destructive attitudes about sexual assault.
