Plaza Volunteer Rescue Squad
Plaza Volunteer Rescue Squad - Station 16 The Plaza Volunteer Rescue Squad is one of ten all-volunteer Rescue Squads in the City of Virginia Beach.
Our VOLUNTEER Rescue Squad responds to any emergency medical dispatch within the 248 square miles of our city limits free of charge. We serve approximately 440,484 Virginia Beach citizens as well as the thousands from neighboring cities who work and visit each day in addition to the nearly 6 million overnight tourists who visit our city annually. Plaza Volunteer Rescue Squad is extremely thankful for the community who supports its volunteers and ability to maintain four ALS equipped ambulances.
Meet member Todd T
AND congratulations to him on becoming a volunteer paramedic for the city! Todd was released today!!
Todd and family were at the Oceana airshow when ems/marine rescue first caught his eye…. while preparing for his 4th child. He joined marine rescue fall of 2016, then went on to graduate ems august of 2018 while still continuing marine rescue. Todd decided to go one step further after having the families 5th baby, and pursue paramedic Feb of 2022.
He joined plaza rescue in 2023, with the family feeling you get from everyone as soon as you walk through their doors.
He enjoys every shift he runs, due to group of family that’s at Plaza.

FYI for everyone!
🚨TRAINING EXERCISE TODAY 🚨
Today, July 23, we’ll be conducting a routine exercise demonstrating the ability of NAS Oceana and the City of Virginia Beach to partner and respond to any aircraft incidents which may occur onboard the installation.
The public may see an increase of emergency vehicles and smoke on the airfield from the surrounding area.
This is not in response to any specific threat, but is regularly scheduled training.
Our station is our home away from home.
It was the pot of gold at the end of the rainbow during the rain this weekend 🙂
Zack K, B. U, and intern Megan H ran on 1623 recently for a night shift and of course kept her clean!
Thank you guys for representing 🙂

Let’s meet another member! Meet Cat!
My name is Cat. I went through the academy in August of 2020 just after COVID shut most things, including ODU, down. Choosing Plaza was an easy choice for me after meeting Kyle M. and Kelly W. who supported me throughout the years without fail. I finished the academy in March 2021 and helped with special events for a couple of years. In January of 2023 i finally became a certified operational member, after finishing my degree at ODU and figuring out where I wanted my life to go. Outside of rescue I am a huge nerd and used to work at a comic shop full time and I still go to conventions regularly with them. I work at Sentara in Hampton as an ED Tech while still working part time at the comic shop and running rescue once a week. The support I have always gotten from my Plaza family has been vital in my life, even before I became an official member. I look forward to my future in healthcare and with this organization and cannot wait to see where I go from here!
Today our member spotlight is our Vice President and Administrative LT, Lisa Warfield-Musicant. Lisa was originally with us as a Operational provider then turned Admin from April 2011 through December 2017. During that time, she held numerous positions from Board of Directors to President of Plaza. In March 2023, she returned as an Admin member and within 10 minutes of being voted in, she was nominated and accepted the position as Vice President once more. Today, she oversees all administrative personnel ensuring that they complete their mandatory 12 hours and assists the Operational Team with anything that she can when asked.
Lisa does many things behind the scenes as well. From member retention orders to getting our hand outs for our Half-Way Luncheons and Standby’s, to even attending a standby herself. Lisa and our Operations LT (Kelly W), collaborate and work out all the logistics for our successful Craft Fair which we hold twice a year. She’s a selfless member who will go out of her way to help anyone with anything when asked.
When she’s not at the station, she loves to go camping with her family, working around her house and baking, especially during the holidays. The membership of Plaza thank you Lisa for everything that you do and look forward to your creativity and keeping everything running smoothly like you do.
Congratulations to our own Kelsey on her release as a paramedic within the city. Kelsey
Has met all of the requirements to run as a released paramedic within the city AND she is a volunteer medic! You go Kelsey!
Congratulations to Paramedic Kelsey Lai and Firefighter Hunter Joyner on earning their release as a Paramedic Attendant-in-Charge. We love the strong collaboration between VB EMS and Virginia Beach Fire Department!
