A 350-pound bear decided to hold the 'best block party ever,' taking a siesta up in a tree on Mother’s Day. Yes, a bear! Spectators came out, phones overhead, eager to capture the snoozing spectacle.

My father served in the Navy during the Vietnam war. On a particularly grueling week of exercises he was on a 24 shift in aft steering. He was exhausted, it was freezing, the surf was constantly hitting him in the face, and he had one thought.
