Ola Mau Farms

We are a small family farm in Na Wai Eha, Maui. We grow organic Hawaiian heirloom kalo, lu'au leaf, and make artisanal poi.

Got some nice Moi kalo from the huli we cut this weekend. Decided to work on our kulolo recipe. Used the Vitamix to grind the kalo as well as mixing in the sugar. I'm hoping the smaller grind and the sugar blending with the coconut milk will help with consistency and reduce cook time.
We will see how it turns out in 6 hours when all the taste testers get home.

Fun facts:
*Koa'e Kea can divebomb 50-60 feet to catch fish.
*There are about 1800 breeding pairs of Koa'e Kea in Hawai'i.
*Controlling rat and feral cat populations in Hawai'i will help our native birds continue to thrive.
*If you find an injured seabird, call (808) 573-2473.

++A 5th grade science project inspired by the return of our native birds to Mahukaawenui when we restored wai to our lo'i kalo. We've had 'Aeo and 'Auku'u visit in the morning and see other sea birds like the Koa'e Kea fly up the path of the river on their way back into mountain caves for nesting.

B.O.L.O! Be On the Lookout

The coconut rhinoceros beetle isnʻt known from Maui County. But learn what to look for should it arrive.

Palms, mulch, and/or compost coming from Oʻahu or Kauaʻi are high-risk commodities. Knowing what to look for can protect Maui County. ReportCRB to 643PEST.org

Mahalo nui to our partners Coconut Rhinoceros Beetle Response for the graphic to help determine the difference between CRB and OFB.
