Part of our classical education approach to physics is to look at the history of ideas prior and up to Newton. For the past two years, this has culminated on a debate about Galileo, his ideas, and his trials. This year, our students were assisted by debate expert, Dr. Joshua Herring.

Engineering Bootcamp marks the start of Thales College’s engineering program coming to life through the practices learned in a real manufacturing setting! Students get a firsthand look at the processes of engineering, safety measures in the workplace, and get to take part in the creation of their own products. Ben, one of our undergrads, put our TC emblem on the side of a grill made at the bootcamp. Thales College is unique as it provides many opportunities like these for undergrads to fully immerse themselves in their field of choice to gain valuable experience before graduation. 🔧🔥

As part of his Product Design class, Professor Joe Davison brought in a pair of Macintosh computers. Students are reading Steve Jobs’ biography, which explains how intent he was on making sure the Macintosh’s design was both functional as well as elegant and accessible. The class had the unique opportunity to see Apple’s history come to life as they booted up the computers, navigated the systems, and saw how these models applied the principles discussed in Jobs’ book. Students were fascinated to note that some of the UI was exactly the same on the 80’s model of the Macintosh as it is on today’s Macs, and they enjoyed seeing firsthand how the history of entrepreneurship through the Macintosh revolutionized the tech industry. 🍎💻🍏

Very interesting things going on in our second-year students’ Philosophy of Economics & Human Action course: The class assembled a 300-piece puzzle for an exercise in which Dr. Palasek explained the principles of individual cooperation in endeavors. While putting together the puzzle, students assumed different roles, attempting to assemble as much of the puzzle as possible within the alotted time limit. This illustrated how, in a free economy, individuals cooperate by completing different tasks to efficiently work towards overall goals. An excellent illustration exists in Leonard Read’s famous “I, Pencil” story, where various parties around the world unconsciously assist in the production of the common writing utensil. This collaboration can range from small-scale teams to the international business marketplace. Our students had fun and enjoyed the opportunity to apply their learning in a tangible way! 🐈
