Polybutylene re-pipe in progress at the Flip. Poly B piping is famous due to its high failure rates as compared to other materials like copper, pex and pvc. Poly B is prevalent in homes pre 1991, but this home was built in 1994 and it seems someone found a warehouse full of PB leftovers to use. LOL BUT today is the day she gets a FULL pex upgrade so that some lucky homebuyer has many years of worry-free plumbing thanks to SPG Plumbing out of Youngsville.

On today’s episode of Homeownership on a budget-I am fixing the leaking shower & faucet that periodically gives a drip. My fixtures are all made by Moen and have a cartridge inside that wears out and needs replacement. This cartridge could also have a small piece of grit inside that’s causing the drip.

1. CUT THE DAMN WATER OFF. Read that again-CUT THE DAMN WATER OFF!

2. Pull the manufacturer specs from their website to locate the part or parts causing the issue and pickup at your favorite hardware store-because I get wicked discounts on my pro account, it’s for me.

3. Remove the pieces, placing each piece with any corresponding screws and keep them IN ORDER that you remove so you can work that backwards when re-assembling. I know, this SEEMS self-explanatory. 🤷‍♀️

4. If you made it this far without attending YouTube University, congratulations you might get away without calling the plumber 😆

5. Replace worn part (in my case the cartridge) and reassemble all the pieces IN ORDER and in the right position.

6. CUT THE DAMN WATER ON! 💦

7. Crack yourself a beer and be happy you just saved a $250 bill from the plumber for 2 fixtures. My parts cost $53.

If you doubt you could do this, reach out to the manufacturer-I could’ve gotten my parts for free but didn’t want to wait for shipping. Moen offers a LIFETIME warranty on their fixtures and have sent me free cartridges in the past, because I have 6 sinks that’s a lot of savings.
