2023 Means More Destinations, New Airlines At RDU
We'll get right to it: airlines aren't wasting any time bringing new flights to RDU Airport this year. It's a lot to keep up with — so we made this handy list for keeping track of where you can fly next.

🟣 Hello, Avelo: Startup airline Avelo Airlines is expanding big at RDU. Avelo is set to launch six new direct flights at RDU:

Orlando (MCO) — begins Feb. 2
Tampa (TPA) — begins Feb. 3
Fort Lauderdale (FLL) — begins Feb. 16
Fort Myers (RSW) — begins Feb. 16
Sarasota-Bradenton (SRQ) — begins Feb. 17
West Palm Beach (PBI) — begins Feb. 17

Those flights join Avelo's nonstop to New Haven, CT (HVN), which launched last year. And mark your calendars: on Feb. 16, the airline is set to move to Terminal 1, joining Southwest Airlines.

Avelo is also set to open a crew base at RDU. The move will create more than 50 jobs at RDU.

🔵 Call us the breeze: RDU's newest airline is poised to debut in February. Breeze Airways will become the airport's 14th airline when it begins service with three nonstop flights, and will add two more in May:

RDU Welcomes Breeze, Avelo Expands
Raleigh-Durham International Airport is adding more airlines and destinations again — a lot of them, in fact! Here's a handy guide to stay in the know.

💨 Breeze Airways will become RDU's newest airline partner. The Utah-based airline, which took its first flight in May 2021, focuses on offering affordable fares with plenty of perks — including no change and cancellation fees up to 15 minutes prior to departure, free family seating and enhanced seating options including Extra Legroom and First Class seats.

Breeze will launch service in February to three destinations:

Hartford, CT (BDL)
New Orleans (MSY)
Providence, RI (PVD)

🟣 Avelo Airlines is adding several new flights — and about 50 jobs at RDU. The airline debuted at RDU in May with nonstop service to New Haven, CT (HVN). Avelo will add connectivity to six Florida cities starting in February:

🏖️ Bahamasair celebrated the launch of its debut international service at RDU Nov. 17. The airline now operates RDU's newest nonstop flight to Freeport, Grand Bahama with connections to Nassau twice weekly, year-round on a 138-seat Boeing 737-700.

🇮🇸 Icelandair's nonstop service to Reykjavik (KEF) has proven popular with RDU flyers — so much that the airline just announced it will extend the season to start in March 2023, rather than May. RDU's newest transatlantic route brings North Carolina to the Land of Fire and Ice, with additional, convenient connectivity onward to continental Europe.

All Treats, No Tricks: Flights To The Bahamas, Cancun Coming To RDU
A new airline — and fresh international destinations — are on tap for RDU flyers in November and December.

American Airlines will launch nonstop seasonal service to sunny Cancun, Mexico (CUN) Nov. 5, with flights on Saturdays. And JetBlue will return its popular nonstop seasonal route to Cancun beginning Dec. 24. That service will run daily until Jan. 2, 2023, then will fly twice weekly through Jan. 14. Find tickets on sale now with each airline.

If the Caribbean is more your speed, Bahamasair is set to launch year-round nonstop service to Freeport, Grand Bahama with connections to Nassau, beginning Nov. 17. Bahamasair will fly from RDU on Thursdays and Sundays on a 138-seat Boeing 737-700. Tickets are on sale now.

Pack Extra Time For Airport Construction
We're continuing to build a bigger, better RDU experience. As construction continues, make sure you allow extra time before your scheduled departure, or if picking up family or friends from the airport.

I-40 Ramp Closure
The N.C. Department of Transportation crews recently closed the ramps from I-40 to Airport Blvd in both directions to improve the interchange. Commuters to RDU may follow detour signs and should anticipate these closures over the next several months.

Temporary Road and Upper-Level Closure at Terminal 2
RDU is temporarily closing the upper-level drop-off area at Terminal 2 at night for maintenance. The far-right lane of John Brantley Boulevard leading to the upper-level departures curb is closed daily from 9 p.m. – 4 a.m. All traffic for both arrivals and departures will be directed to the bottom level until 4 a.m.

Signs and message boards are placed along John Brantley Blvd between Terminal 1 and Terminal 2 to notify drivers about the lane closure. The pedestrian crosswalk located outside the upper level will remain open and clear of construction equipment for access to the parking deck.

The work is expected to be completed in November.

Runway Rehabilitation Continues
RDU’s runway 5L/23R, the primary commercial runway located on the west side of the airport adjacent to Terminal 2, will close for overnight rehabilitation Sunday through Thursday from Sept. 6 through Nov. 21. When the runway is closed, aircraft will land and depart on RDU’s parallel runway, 5R/23L, located on the east side of the airport adjacent to Terminal 1. The closures are weather dependent and the project schedule provides flexibility to allow runway work to occur on Fridays and Saturdays, as needed.

Meanwhile, there's more great news for international flyers: the airport Duty Free location has reopened for business.

With international flights back in full swing — including American's flight to London, Delta to Paris, Icelandair's service to Reykjavik and more — the popular store (Terminal 2, Gate C10) once again is providing guests with great deals on spirits, luxury cosmetics, fragrances and more.

Duty Free is open daily, 5 a.m.-7:30 p.m. (or last international departure). The reopening is more good news for international flyers, following the relaunch of a currency exchange kiosk in Terminal 2.

4 new nonstop destinations coming to RDU, including Bahamas and Cancun
Four new nonstop destinations are coming to Raleigh-Durham International Airport in November

MORRISVILLE, N.C. — Four new nonstop destinations are coming to Raleigh-Durham International Airport in November.
Flights to Cancun will resume on American Airlines. Bahamasair will have nonstop flights to the Bahamas, Avelo Airlines will have flights to Fort Myers, Florida, and Southwest will have flights to Kansas City, Missouri.

Bahamasair will also become RDU's 14th airline, according to a release on the new flights.
In August, over 1 million people flew through RDU, which was a 22% increase over August 2021, the airport said.

Nonstop flights to Paris also resumed at RDU in August.

Knowing Your Rights with the Air Carrier Access Act

Important Information for Travelers with Disabilities

Traveling for most people can be nerve-racking to say the least. But traveling with a disability can be far more overwhelming when it comes to boarding an aircraft. Did you know that there’s a Bill of Rights for air travelers with disabilities under the Air Carrier Access Act? Here is what the Bill of Rights consists of:

The Right to be Treated with Dignity and Respect: Disabled passengers cannot be discriminated by airline employees or contractors with a disability.

The Right to Receive Information About Services and Aircraft Capabilities and Limitations: Airlines are required to provide accessibility information about their aircraft to disabled travelers. This includes the availability of storage on the aircraft, the location of seats with movable aisle armrests, whether the aircraft has an accessible lavatory, and services that are not available on the flight.

The Right to Assistance at Airports: Airlines are mandated to provide disabled travelers with boarding and deplaning assistance as well as getting to and from the boarding gate. Passengers who request assistance in advance of arriving at the airport will need to contact airline personnel once they arrive at the airport to receive assistance.

The Right to Receive Information in an Accessible Format: Airline websites must be accessible and accommodations made in the airport for hearing and visually impaired travelers. Airlines must train personnel to recognize requests for communication accommodation. Personnel must be trained to use methods for communicating with individuals who are deaf, hard of hearing, blind, or communicating thought an interpreter.

The Right to Accessible Airport Facilities: - Airports and airplanes must be physically navigable for disabled travelers. Airlines with older aircraft with thirty or more seats that replace the aisle seats, must ensure half of the seats have removable armrests. The aircraft must have at least one accessible lavatory if the aircraft has more than on aisle. If the aircraft has an accessible lavatory, an on-board wheelchair must be available.

The Right to Travel with an Assistive Device or Service Animal: This includes medical devices and/or a personal amount of medication needed. Assistive devices must not count against the passenger’s carry-on limit. Airlines must accept a battery powered wheelchair. If it cannot be transported in the cabin, it must be transported in the cargo compartment consistent with safety and security requirements. Airlines must also provide for the checking and timely return of assistive devices at the gate for use in the terminal.
Airlines must permit a service dog to accompany a passenger with a disability in the cabin. A decision by airline personnel to refuse transportation of a service dog with the passenger must be based on an individualized and objective assessment of the dog. This includes: The dog posing a direct threat to the health or safety of others, the dog causing a significant disruption or misbehaves in the cabin or at an airport gate area.

The Right to Receive Seating Accommodations: Airlines must provide specific seats to disabled passengers who identify to airline personnel as needing the seat if the seat exists on the same class of service on the aircraft.
A movable aisle armrest that is readily available to the passenger who cannot transfer to a fixed aisle armrest.

Greater leg room when the passenger has a fused or immobilized leg.

Seating that best accommodates the passenger traveling with a service animal.

An adjoined seat for a companion providing assistance for the passenger. This includes a interpreter for a passenger who is deaf or hard of hearing, A reader for a passenger who is blind or with low vision.
The Right to Assistance on the Aircraft: Passengers with disabilities must be provided prompt and timely boarding and deplaning assistance, upon request, from properly trained airline personnel. Airlines must allow passengers with disabilities who self identifies as needing additional time or assistance to board, be seated, stow accessibility equipment before all other passengers. This also includes assistance with moving to and from seats. Airlines must also provide assistance to the passenger moving to and from the lavatory.

The Right to Accessible Aircraft Features: If the aircraft has more than one aisle, the aircraft must have one accessible lavatory. An on-board wheelchair must be available on the aircraft and priority stowage space for wheelchairs in the cabin for any aircraft with 100 or more seats and have movable aisle armrests on half of the aisle seats if the aircraft has thirty or more seats. Some airlines have been approved by the Department of Transportation (DOT) to meet the purpose of this requirement by alternative means providing the same or greater accessibility to passengers with disabilities.
The Right to Resolution of a Disability Related Issue: Passengers with disabilities may file a complaint with the airline or DOT if they are not satisfied with air travel services. Airlines must make available a Complaint Resolution Official (CRO) in a timely manner. The CRO should be a trained expert in resolving disability related issues and be able to resolve related issues on the spot.


Airlines must respond in writing to any disability related issues within we days of making such a report. Airlines are not required to address complaints sent more than 45 days after an alleged incident unless the complaint is referred to the airline by DOT who will investigate all disability related complaints to determine whether a violation has occurred.

Business travelers have so much to plug in and power up these days. They might roll into a hotel room needing outlets for a cell phone, a tablet, a computer and more. 🇫🇷 Delta's Nonstop RDU-Paris Flight Resumes Aug. 1
It's been a busy summer for frequent flyers at Raleigh-Durham International Airport. RDU has restored nonstop service to London (LHR), Montréal (YUL), Cincinnati (CVG) and others. And new flights to places such as Reykjavik, Iceland (KEF) and New Haven (HVN) are proving popular already.

Now, Delta Air Lines is set to resume flying to one of RDU's signature destinations — Paris (CDG). The airline will fly nonstop between Raleigh-Durham and the French capital five times per week on a Boeing 767-300 aircraft. Tickets are on sale now.

The resumption of Paris service marks RDU's sixth international nonstop destination, an all-time high for the airport. RDU now serves 54 destinations, with almost 400 daily flights.

12. Avoid Sleep Upon Your Arrival

After a long, exhausting trip you might be tempted to sleep as soon as you arrive, no matter what the local time is. Try to avoid doing this at all costs, and let your body adjust to the new time zone as soon as possible.

13. Store Your Receipts

Keep all your receipts together. If you need a paper version of your receipts, bring an envelope where you can store them. Every expense that is being paid for by your company needs to be documented. No receipts - no reimbursement is a standard rule for most corporate travel. We recommend you take a picture of every receipt as well in case you lose one.

14. Use a Firewall When Accessing Public Internet

This is especially important when you use your work computer and access work-related information on-the-go. Make sure your antivirus app is up to date and you have a firewall to protect you from anyone accessing your data.

15. Leave Reviews
