Long Time Employees Becoming Montecatini's New Owners

Chef-owner Ermes Paulin, who opened the restaurant on October 17, 1989 and his wife, General Manager and Wine Director Teresa Cheung are entering into semi-retirement and officially handing the reins on to the next generation. New owners Terrance and Taylor George, who met, fell in love, and got married while working as servers at Montecatini, will be taking over starting January 2022. They will bring new energy to Montecatini while keeping the entire staff, using Chef Ermes’ recipes, and maintaining Montecatini’s successful formula of delicious food, great wines, amazing service and beautiful ambience, all at reasonable prices.

Chef Ermes and Teresa would like to thank our faithful and hardworking staff for all these years. Special appreciation to Chef Raul, who has been by Chef Ermes’ side since Day One, 32 years ago, and Chef Rafa, who has been at Montecatini for over 20 years. Both will continue on cooking the same Chef Ermes dishes for the new owners. Our busser David, who also has been with Montecatini since Day One, is the ultimate employee, setting an example of superb customer service for all our front of the house staff to follow. We are also thankful for Chef Omar and our kitchen staff, for our Maître D’ Stephen, bartender Danny, and all of our front of the house staff that makes up our awesome Montecatini family.

To our loyal customers who made Montecatini the successful restaurant we have today: Please continue to dine at Montecatini and support Terrance and Taylor as our new owners. Happy Hour is Back at Montecatini

In response to our customers' requests, we are bringing back our popular Happy Hour. Also, Montecatini is now open earlier for indoor dining beginning at 4:30 pm every day, Wednesday through Sunday.

From 4:30 to 6:00 pm Wednesday through Sunday, we will feature Happy Hour wines starting at $5 per glass of our Italian house white, rose, red and sparkling wines, and also many upscale wines such as Far Niente Chardonnay at $15/glass ($24/glass after 6 pm). We will also have our Happy Hour Bites for $8 with dishes such as Carpaccio and Antipasto. Please join us early at our bar or in our dining room.

With Covid rules relaxing, we have eased restrictions at our bar. For those who still value social distancing, our dining room tables are still spaced far apart with our air purifiers in operation. Mask wearing is by choice for everyone and our staff are fully vaccinated. Since our dining capacity is limited, we ask our guests to dine within 90 minutes unless your reservations is 7 pm or after.

Montecatini Welcomes Indoor Dining Guests

Contra Costa County moved to the Orange Tier allowing 50% capacity for indoor dining. Because of the layout of Montecatini, we can now have 10 tables and several bar seats available while maintaining social distances from each group of guests.

We continue to provide takeout and delivery (http://montecatinirestaurant.com/order-online/) and welcome guests inside our restaurant, providing that all good health practices are adhere to, such as wearing your mask except when you are sitting at your table, maintain social distance to other guests, and keep your dining time to 90 minutes or less, except when your reservation is 7 pm or after. We also have three large-room air purifiers that can provide several air changes inside our dining room every hour to eliminate 99.97% of harmful airborne allergens, particulates and microbes. We are vigilant to make sure everyone is safe while enjoying Chef Ermes' delicious award winning Italian cuisine.

Happy Valentine!

Valentine's Day is typically a tremendously busy day at Montecatini. This year, for the first time since we opened in 1989, our restaurant will be closed because we do not have indoor dining and Valentine's day falls on a Sunday. In these Pandemic times, Montecatini is only open Wednesday through Saturday for take-out and Montecatini at Dan's. Weather report predicts a beautiful Valentine Sunday for outdoor dining. If we open, our take-out will be competing with restaurants with outdoor seating. So, we decided to remain closed on Sunday and allow our staff to enjoy Valentine's Day February 14th with their sweethearts.

Happy New Year!

Here are some pictures from New Year's Eve at Montecatini. Can you tell which pictures are from 2019 or 2020? What a difference a year makes! We used to open 6 evenings a week with customers shoulder to shoulder in our bar and dining room. Now, we are providing takeout only 3 evenings a week during these Pandemic times. We thank all our Montecatini family and customers who have supported us throughout these unpredictable days, that turned into weeks, that turned into months. We wish 2021 will bring everyone much relief, revival and reunions.

Montecatini Now Open for Safe Indoor Dining

We are excited to open for SAFE indoor dining every Thursday, Friday and Saturday starting at 5 pm, except for Thanksgiving week. Pictured here is Chef Ermes in our newly configured dining room where we have removed 16 of our 26 regular tables for social distancing. Also, shown in the picture is our three large-room air purifiers that can provide several air changes inside our dining room every hour and will eliminate 99.97% of harmful airborne allergens, particulates and microbes.

We will be following CDC, California and Contra Costa County restaurant reopening guidelines to reduce Covid-19 risks including asking everyone to wear face-covering except when our guests are sitting down at their dining table. We will limit party size to no more than 6 per table, and dinner seating to be 90 minutes or less. Our employees and our guests can be sure that we are doing everything we can to keep everyone safe and at the same time, provide a delicious meal and a joyful dining experience. It will be wonderful to see guests in our dining room again and we are grateful for everyone’s patience and support!
