Chasing joy. Love this!

In the last few years, I’ve switched from chasing accomplishments to chasing joy.

This has had a significant impact on my happiness and health. I chase joy by traveling, spending time in nature hiking or biking, spending time with loved ones, horseback riding, cooking a meal for my friends, watching the sunset, etc.

What’s something you do to find joy in your life?

For those of you wijr bunions, I recommend Correct Toes with toe exercises. Look at this improvement!

Here are some really amazing before & after photos shared with us by a Correct Toes user. Not everyone progresses this much this quickly, but it can be encouraging to see others' progress.

It's important to note that simply passively wearing Correct Toes alone isn't likely to produce these kinds of changes — it does take work. Home exercises can help to mobilize the foot and stretch tight muscles. Walking, running, hiking, and generally being active with Correct Toes on keeps your feet and toes in a healthy alignment so toes learn to stay like that. Using Correct Toes as part of a broader foot health plan can absolutely help to reverse and cure bunions and other toe deformities.

When starting with any new fitness or health goal, don't be afraid. Take the first step and go for it. Starting with small goals and then taking small steps towards achieving those goals is a great strategy. Let's say you've fallen off the exercise journey. Well get back up and plan for a few walks - even short ones. The momentum will keep you excited and feeling positive. Some stumbles will happen, but everyone stumbles.

We all have choices. A simple one is drink less calories. What do you do to reduce sugar in your diet?

Not endorsing a Coca-Cola in anyway, but in Europe, the cans are 5 ounces. In America we have 2 L and even 3 L bottles.

The world is catching up, but America is still far ahead in obesity. We super size food and supersize humans. Not a good situation for humanity.

Is it any wonder 40% of kids are overweight and 75% of adults are overweight and 93.2% of Americans are metabolically unhealthy.

We need to fix our food system!

One year ago 4/14/22, I had my “benign” tumor expertly removed by Dr. Latina in Beverly Hills. 7 days later I found out it was a high grade parotid gland carcinoma. I was lucky I didn’t have weeks of worry leading up to my surgery since none of us knew it had converted to cancer. I had the best surgeon and then the best radiation oncologist to make sure this was not the thing that would kill me.

I’m thankful for the care I received and wish all patients with cancer to be a fellow survivor! I know that’s not practical but still push all good wishes to those suffering or watching a loved one suffer.

Had a fun speaking opportunity to share my health journey and wisdom as a doctor mom entrepreneur at an International Women’s Event with JoEllen Brooks, Together We Move

My key take home points
1. Don’t ignore your s**t - I ignored a small growth on my face that turned out to be cancer. I lucked out and caught it in the nick of time. I could have been massively disfigured and died. Please, ladies, get weird things checked out.
2. Take each day as a day to improve. Learn something. Work on a hobby - or like me get one! Make a new recipe.
3. Hydrate. It’s one of the simplest ways to stay healthy.
4. Avoid processed food and refined sugar. Your body works better and lives longer with less inflammatory foods.
5. Exercise gives much more than a hot bod. It nourishes your brain, keeps your blood flowing optimally, boosts good feels, helps you avoid diseases. Prevents cognitive decline. Don’t wait to do something.
6. Sleep is the time your body goes to work to recover your muscles, injured cells, and more. Aim for at least 7-8 hours.

I’ve really enjoyed the Blue Zones books about what makes communities and people healthier and happiest. Read about this centenarian’s advice.

Happy International Women's Day

I've had the honor of meeting some of the world's most extraordinary women!

From all of my research it is clear that in places where there is gender equality, men and women are all happier across the board. Happy communities have good health care, good education, and quality social services for everyone. So it’s in the best interest of men (and society) to treat women fairly in all aspects.

Meet one of my heros, 101-year old Maria Norberta Marcena Diaz. When I met her, she gave me secrets to reaching 100:

1) Eat beans and rice everyday
2) Put Family First
3) Sleep 8 hours a night
4) Find a job that uses your hands (she was cook at a local ranch)
5) Grow a garden (hers has mangos, papaya, and buses of hot chile peppers)
6) Have a faith for when times get tough
7) Don’t trust men.
Checkout my sample class to hear about more extraordinary women I've met through my travels and their secrets to Longevity. (link in bio) 📸 .david

Pictured is pure fat I carefully collected from my patient ready for injection into both knees of an arthritis patient. Always done with ultrasound imaging my me, the physician, not a nurse or other non-physician.

Regenerative medicine is the future of non-surgical orthopedic care. Instead of relying on potentially risky surgery (did you know 20% of patients after knee replacement still have pain or that meniscus surgery leads to earlier arthritis?)

Also many studies show cortisone/steroid degrades the health of the knee? Sure insurance covers this injection but I took an oath to do no harm. I use cortisone sparingly for this reason. Gel shots can help reduce arthritis knee pain but most insurance companies stopped providing this injection ( blue cross and blue shield and the rest make us climb through hoops for possible authorization of their “preferred” gel shot brand).

That’s when I said there has to be a better way to help my patients. So in 2010 I started researching and going to conferences with regenerative Orthobiologic experts sharing options like PRP, stem cells, growth factors, prolotherapy, A*M. The science has gotten stronger over the past 13 years. High safety profiles and great results in the right candidates. People are looking for safer options than surgery. If you don’t know much about your options, I review some on my Nancy E. Rolnik, MD YouTube channel.

Would love the opportunity to show you other remedies nobody has brought up at your ortho appointments. I see new patient consults weekly at my Walnut Creek practice. Often the surgeon offers to cut or nothing else. That’s not my mojo!

Yesterday I spoke about the importance of healthy habits to preserve cognitive health to local savvy seniors for Dayna Wilson, Realtor event. Here are some take home messages
1. Changes in the brain and body start early - 30s and 40s way earlier than the initial symptoms of Alzheimer’s, dementia and joint disease. Don't wait to make healthy life habits as recommended below.

2. Exercise increases blood flow to the brain and protects the body and brain from cardiovascular disease and cognitive decline. It also helps preserve muscle mass which helps keep you metabolism roaring and muscles strong to prevent falls and keep you maintaining an active life! Myostim powder (link below) daily can help with muscle growth plus be sure to eat adequate protein daily.

3. Sleep is critical to “clean up” the brain nightly. Aiming for 7-8 hours is the goal. Magnesium and slow release melatonin are some of my go to options for insomnia. You can find high quality supplements here: https://www.designsforhealth.com/u/REMEDYSPORTSMED

4. Healthy fats like Avocado, olive oil, seeds, nuts protect the brain.

5. Reducing refined sugar and processed food protects the heart and the brain. Sugar is one of the biggest causes of disease and even can cause joint swelling and pain! Aim for a colorful plate with 50% of your plate full of colorful veggies. 70% cacao chocolate has a low glycemic index so is a good treat. I really like HU. https://www.facebook.com/HuKitchen/?mibextid=LQQJ4d

6. Keep using your brain and body. Use it or lose it is the reality. Keep learning new things to create new synapses. Move daily. Build and preserve muscle and mobility. Your future you will be very thankful you invested time to be your healthiest self!

I’ll be speaking at another event next Wednesday 3/8 l11am for International Women’s Day with a mental health expert and fitness trainer to help women learn strategies to live their healthiest lives. Join us here https://www.eventbrite.com/e/559087023337

If you’ve been ignoring your pain and just grinning and ignoring it, you are at risk of dementia per this recent study. I love helping people with joint pain using a whole body approach and injectable PRP or other Orthobiologic injections which address the root cause of pain - the inflammation.

While most of my patients live in the San Francisco Bay Area some patients travel to see me from out of state. Many areas there are no doctors offering stem cell or other regnerative injections. Would love to help you.

This picture is from my 10 year anniversary we celebrated in Kaui. I bought a discounted dress for this photo shoot and had so much fun running around in the warm Pacific Ocean with my husband, not a care in the world. I was asked what I would tell my future self. I had no idea I would open and be running a successful medical solo practice - it was a pipe dream I had in medical school to have a wellness center.

I would say “Nancy, trust yourself and your ability to help people, your ability to figure out stuff and balance a bunch of jobs and be sure to take one day at a time. Don’t forget to take of yourself while you’re caring for everyone else.”

What would you tell your 10 years younger you?

When I was a teen, I developed an urge for helping make the world a better place. I was inspired to fundraise for MS - back in the 1980s there weren't gobs of fundraisers to choose from. I started swimming laps for MS and then cycling. I don't know how much I raised but felt great knowing I was helping. Decades later a good friend was diagnosed with MS and hopefully what me and many others did to raise money helped in her fight!

I became a lifeguard not for my hot bod or love of whistles but to protect families from getting hurt and ensuring they had only fun not tragedy. From there I just kept on wanting to help prevent problems. I was active in Students Against Drunk Drivers (SADD) in HS and college. I was the recycling chair at my sorority. Always wanting to make things better for people, animals, the environment.

I became a doctor to help in the best way I could - preventing and treating diseases. I spend a lot of time researching best strategies to prevent medical issues and how to live a long, vibrant life! I hope my messages are clear - we all have to take our health into our own hands to stay healthy and active for life.

Just wanted to share this amazing video I watched this morning. There are a ton of people who get it - exercise, food, sleep, community, purpose all matter to living your best life. I hope you enjoy learning about Johanna Quass - the oldest gymnist. Is she inspiring? Please leave your comments or questions about prevention, longevity, wellness below.

I am now adding videos on my youtube channel - www.youtube.com//videos. What would you like to know more about living your best life?

Exercise And Pregnancy

Bravo to the brave, strong, fit and powerful Rihanna for her performance at the halftime Super Bowl show! She showed men and women that pregnancy does not stop motion and showed millions of pregnant women that exercise is not only good for them but a good idea for their healthy while pregnant.

Lots of pregnant women still think they shouldn’t exercise - a myth that contributes to women staying sedentary during such an important phase of their lives.

Here at recommendations from the American Academy of Sports Medicine (ACSM):

Physical activity recommendations for pregnant women follow those for the general non-pregnant population, with minor modifications.
• Women should accumulate 150 minutes of moderate Physical Activity each week.
• Physical Activity is encouraged everyday, but should occur over a minimum of 3 days per week.
• A variety of physical activities should be incorporated, both aerobic and resistance in nature, along with yoga and gentle stretching.
• Pelvic Floor related exercises (e.g., Kegels) should be performed daily.
• Warm-up and cool-down periods should be included in any Physical Activity regimen.
• Physical Activity programs should be individualized for each woman based on situation, experience and current health status.

Body Contouring with EvolveX 02/12/2023

I fully believe in putting in the work to feel your best both inside and out. But life is challenging and sometimes it's just not feasible to workout daily because of life's many to dos! And yes, eat the right things, but we are all human and perfect eating isn't a thing.

One remedy I offer my patients is non-invasive body contouring to tackle those stubborn trouble zones like the muffin top, bra fat, love handles and others using radiofrequency heat and EMS (electric muscle stimulation). It's not a weight loss tool - I have other ways to help with that!

EvolveX is the only FDA device on the market to address skin laxity, muscle toning and fat reduction all in one simultaneous treatment. If you didn't know this was an option or you are tired of wishing your trouble zone wasn’t sticking around, I can help using EvolveX and more.

I craft a plan for my patients including fitness, dietary guidance, offer Pnoe metabolic testing and yes, body contouring. I invite you to come in for a consult to see if you are a good candidate for any of my feeling good inside and out remedies. EvolveX is just one of many options to help you!

Share with a friend and be sure to follow Nancy E. Rolnik, MD at Remedy Sports and Regenerative Medicine for more ways to live your healthiest life.
