what does our hair really want during summer?
we're all definitely outside a lot more so we want to make sure we have UV filters in our product to protect our color and our scalp. i always like to play with up-styles cuz it's hot so maybe learning how to do a cute bun or cute little like easy updo. doing this, you can get a little bit more out of your hair before washing it.

any products that you work in during heat?
absolutely - a lot of leave-in conditioners that have sun protection in them - like our Bumble and Bumble Hairdresser's Invisible Oil Primer is great. it's got your heat protectant, it's got your extra moisture and a little bit of oil infused into it. that's kind of like my go-to. if you're to use one product that could be the one to use because it covers all your bases.

what about styling?
one of my favorite products to work in an air dry is the Kevin.Murphy Smooth Again treatment. I love that you can use it both ways -- to scrunch in the hair and air dry to create a frizz-free shiny look, or you can also use it to blow dry in - it's just great whatever way you use it because it's an anti-frizz treatment. It's one of my favorites, honestly, i love it.

color-wise, what do you tend to see more of in the summer?
definitely people like to go lighter in the summer but still more on the soft side, not like a full head of foils. if you want to be platinum blonde that's great. i'm happy to do that for you, but a lot of people like to go a little bit longer in between. They're out having fun and vacation so maybe just brightening up the money piece or brightening out the tips so you have some brighter pieces throughout.

any tips for travel or being out in the elements or water?
yess, rinse your hair with water before getting in chlorine or salt water to help prevent it from soaking up all of those chemicals! also, hats are obviously a UV protective tool and are great for your skin and hair. when you're traveling, it's easy to settle for travel size products but i highly recommend grabbing one of the small travel container kits and filling it with your favorite salon quality products for while you're gone

Q: what is a clarifying shampoo?
A: a clarifying shampoo is a deep cleansing treatment that can be used to help remove product build up and excess oil from the scalp. it is hyper focused on the cleansing, so it can be slightly harsher than a shampoo suited to your hair type. for this reason, on hair wash days i always cleanse first with my detox shampoo to help remove any build up and get my scalp nice an set for a second wash. i use and love this detox shampoo called maxi.wash from kevin.murphy, that is also color safe. i double cleanse my hair like my face where the first is to remove any dirt & debris, and the second cleanse is to truly cleanse the scalp with the nourishing formula of shampoo for my hair type. i always recommend a second wash with a different shampoo after a clarifying shampoo because it helps to put some nourishment and moisture back in the hair with a formula suited to your scalp's needs.

Q: what about hair masks for moisture?
A:  most peoples' hair could benefit from added moisture as most people have dry hair for so many reasons including hot tool use, sun exposure, lack of moisture products, non-professional shampoo/conditioners, etc. moisture masks are generally used once a week for deep added moisture, but depend on the condition of your hair. longer hair (like mine) is well suited for weekly use because longer, older hair can use the extra moisture. if you have shorter hair, use ever 1-2 weeks could be more ideal. moisture mask use is best focused on mid-lengths to ends of hair; you can pull it up to your root as well but may experience more oily looking scalp if you do, so watch for that. i love young.again.masque by kevin.murphy because it's packed with amino acids, essential oils and rich moisturizers to help restore shine to dry, damaged and brittle hair. my hair is always so shiny and soft as a result of this moisture mask.

Q: what do both of these products do to your hair care routine that a regular shampoo and conditioner do not?
A: they're both for more deeply cleansing, and moisturizing the scalp and hair. they're too intense for... cont in comments🖤
