The classic cappuccino. A simple drink with a big history.

Cappuccinos first popped up as the ‘Kapuziner’ in Viennese coffee houses in the 1700s. These drinks had a brown color similar to the robes worn by the Capuchin (‘Kapuzin’) friars in Vienna, and this is where their name came from. The word ‘Capuchin’ literally means cowl or hood in Italian, and it was a name given to the Capuchin monks for their hooded robes.

Although the name ‘Kapuziner’ was used in Vienna, the actual cappuccino was invented in Italy, and the name was adapted to become ‘Cappuccino.’ It was first made in the early 1900s, shortly after the popularization of the espresso machine 1901. A half-century later it would go through some improvements in Italy, and became what we know today - good espresso, a balance of steamed and frothed milk, the presence of crema and a small, preheated porcelain cup.

Next time you order a cappuccino, know you’re ordering one of the oldest espresso drinks ever created.

Central to our mission is propping up our local community organizations by raising awareness, sponsoring events, and donating proceeds. Waltham is home to an incredible family of non-profit and social services agencies making a difference with homelessness, affordable housing, food insecurity, the inclusion of adults with disabilities, and more.

These groups are part of what makes the city so wonderful, yet many of them go unnoticed and unappreciated. We want to tell their story and support their work.

We think cortados deserve a little more appreciation! It’s a simple drink with Spanish origins - the name meaning “cut.” The espresso is cut with steamed milk, a perfect one-to-one ratio of espresso and milk.

If you’re a black coffee drinker, a cortado is a perfect treat for when you want something with a bit more sweetness. If your go-to is a latte, ordering a cortado will help you appreciate a bit more taste of espresso.

We also have our own spin on a cortado currently - the Honey Bee Cortado. We’re adding a bit of honey and vanilla syrups to make this drink give you summer vibes!

Did you know even our dog treats are about giving back? 🦴🐾

We make these treats in-house and 100% of the sale goes to BnR’s Rock n’ Rescue. They are a nonprofit organization founded to rescue dogs in need with the goal of providing them with a safe place to land, and using humane training methods to help them become more adoptable and ultimately place them in forever homes!

We finally have an ideal patio day! ☀️🫶
