It’s National CPR and AED Awareness Week! in News from Around the AHA AHA Community Manager
Posted on June 4, 2024 at 4:25 PM
Dear AHA Instructor Community:
National CPR and AED Awareness Week is underway! During this special week, we spotlight how lives can be saved if more Americans know CPR and how to use an AED.
The AHA has set a goal of doubling the survival of cardiac arrest by 2030.
We know that in order to save more lives from the 350,000 cardiac arrests that occur outside of the hospital every year, we must increase the number of people who respond to cardiac arrest by calling 911, delivering high-quality CPR and getting and using an AED as soon as it is available.
To help us raise awareness about CPR and AED Awareness and work toward our goal, we would love your help with building a Nation of Lifesavers. The goal of the AHA’s Nation of Lifesavers initiative is to turn bystanders into lifesavers.
In addition to encouraging your families, friends and community members to take a CPR course, below are additional ways that you can encourage them to learn CPR and join the Nation of Lifesavers: Share Our New PSA: Our “Be the Next Lifesaver” PSA inspires bystanders to become lifesavers by learning CPR and being prepared to respond in a medical emergency. View the PSA and share the link. Encourage Others to Immerse Themselves in a New Virtual Reality (VR) App: Through the AHA’s new VR app, individuals can learn how to perform Hands-Only CPR and use an AED, and then put their skills to the test in three real-life scenarios. Recruit Advocates: Encourage your families, friends and communities to join You’re the Cure, the AHA’s grassroots network where they can show their support for public policies that can save lives from cardiac arrest. Together with the Smart Heart Sports Coalition, the AHA is working to pass laws in all 50 states that will ensure schools, school athletic facilities and school events have a cardiac emergency response plan and require training in CPR and AED for school athletic coaches. Share AHA’s Hands-Only CPR Instructional Video: Individuals can learn the two steps of Hands-Only CPR with this instructional video Visit the Nation of Lifesavers website to learn more. We are truly grateful for all that our AHA Instructors do to help empower more people to act confidently and swiftly during a cardiac emergency. Everyone, everywhere can be prepared and empowered to become a vital link in the chain of survival and provide CPR. Together we can save lives.
