Michigan server Tami Jo speaks out in Crain's Detroit Business: “After years of building my successful career, I may now be forced to leave the job I love — and need. By turning these into just another minimum wage job, the custom of customers rewarding great service with tips will end.”

Raising the minimum wage will hurt, not help, tipped workers. Without the tip credit, many servers and bartenders whose jobs are also their passions will either be forced to leave, as 1 in 5 restaurants are predicted to close their doors, or need to leave as they can’t survive the reduced wages. Legislators need to work with servers to save the tip credit and thousands of jobs.
